As a 42 y/o who gets clocked for 10+ years younger than I am, I'm very grateful that I've always been interested and active about skincare and sunscreen. I've been applying sunscreen every day since I was 21 and the difference it has made is visible. Skin cancer runs in my family so it played double duty but the aging benefit is a bonus xD That being said, I completely agree that aging is a privilege, especially when I realize I'm only five years away from the age my mother died. Bottom line is don't get obsessed with "fixing" your skin and looking 22 forever but think of skincare as self care, as health care and have fun with it! I have rosacea and "old" skin but it looks amazingly good for 78 because of long time sunscreen use and limited sun time and use of red light therapy for the last couple of yrs. You are so right about keeping your routine simple without too many products. Every time I get sucked into adding some new "must have" products to my routine, my barrier gets thrown out of whack and it takes me weeks to heal it and get things back on track. (I'm in the midst of one of those phases right now--ugh!) Seems like I'd be old enough to have learned that lesson!!

I fully support the premise of this video, if I may also offer a different perspective. As a 31 year old mother of three, I appreciate myself if I take care of my skin even half of the time. And I am fully okay with how my story is beginning to show on my face in crows feet and frown lines. I think of them as enhancing my smile, and I call my frown lines my "wisdom lines" because I like the way they make me look discerning. Loved your points on "well aging". I'm 52 and my philosophy, similar to what you expressed, is that well aging skin is skin that you care about, at the age you're in. We so often get carried away with whatever's going on in life and we neglect physical self care sometimes (or become hyper-focused; both are problems). Well aging, then, is an awareness of where you are in life, and taking steps to take care of yourself where you are.

There are some acids, like mandelic and lactic that exfoliate very gently. Bakuchiol can also be a good retinoid alternative but since it is a plant extract you really need to look at the manufacturer to see if you are actually getting an active. Not sure it’s so much clean eating, as all foods are processed in some ways. However, looking at what you personally need for nutrition, is probably the biggest thing. Many people don’t get enough protein (should be at least 0.8 g per lb if you are sedentary and much more if you are active). Since skin and muscle are protein, and your muscle is completely renewed every 3-4 months, it makes sense that this would have enormous impact.

I’m 31 and I’m NGL, I’m seeing the aging and I am getting scared a little. I’m not as good with my skincare routine as I should be but I am Ben to the point of considering fillers and Botox where I normally wouldn’t. This was such a positive video and I appreciate you so much for making it. Also the “hello fresh ad” made me CHUCKLE! 😂Great vid as always James💜

I'm 36 and only really got into a better skincare routine 3 or 4 years ago (and ashamed to admit spf everyday instead of just in the summer is only a recent addition). I definitely wish I'd found a basic routine earlier, but happy I have one now. I think sticking with products you know your skin likes once you've found them rather than trying everything is definitely great advice. ❤

I'm 23, have been using retinol for a monthish, and honestly, I wish I had started using retinol sooner. Was watching a video from Cas Bankson, and she offhand mentioned that tretinoin is an advanced form of retinol and retinol can be a good step for ance if standard acne-marketed products don't work for you before you consider using tret. I picked up the Byoma retinol oil, and within a week, my ance had started clearing up. Now, my acne is pretty much only in the spots on my face that I have a habit of touching often (I tend to rest my chin in my left hand when clearing out work emails, so the left side of my chin and jawline). Once I've finished up the Byoma bottle that I have, I'm planning on trying the Some by Mi retinol, I love their Acne line.

As a holistic esthetician, for me it’s pro-aging! Proactively aging and positively aging, because it’s a beautiful thing, and we are lucky to go through the process of getting older. Coming from a pharmacy background, it really scares me that no one is thinking about the long term health and side effects with all these med spa procedures, strong topicals and medications. Love everything you said today James. 👏

That is aging gracefully. It doesn’t mean doing nothing. It means doing what makes sense and what actually has impact but recognizing you cannot stop the hand of time. It means recognizing that you may not have the resources (time and money) and if it becomes an obsession, you might be sacrificing the things that should matter more.

Keep your basic routine, yep thank you needed that lol after my insane acne finally cleared up after having surgery to excise endometriosis I was only using water and lanolin, I started watching your videos and decided I needed to add some stuff into my routine. Boy was that a mistake I either break out or flush out! Going back to water and lanolin, it doesn’t feel like much of a pampering this way, but at least my skin feels good and I don’t constantly feel like I’m coming down with a fever 😅

As someone who has no self discipline (I genuinely just really struggle with it) I know there’s so much I should be doing but just.. cant find the motivation for. Struggling with depression from preteens into just about last year (I turn 25 soon) I think plays a major part in that because we all know how that can affect hygiene habits and im only just playing catch up now basically. I’m slightly better at it, I at least properly wash my face 2-3 times a week which I’m proud of but I want to be better with it 😭

I wish I'd always been better about sunscreen, and these days I'm guilty of not using it in the colder weather months. But I'm a truck driver, and I'm basically sitting in a fishbowl all day, so it's extra important that I use it (anyone who drives a lot for their job should really be on the sunscreen)! Thank you for mentioning hands, that's an easy one to forget! I get a lot of compliments on my skin and I credit the fact that I did start using sunscreen in my teens (thanks, Mom!!), and also just from improving my skincare using things you've shared, James! I also started using botox in my 40s and I think that was just the right time. You're right, it't not necessary to start using it at a really young age. It's just a waste of money!!

sounds like the same thing i went through! had ibs most of my adult life but started to get really bad. had a sharp pain in the side of my stomach for a long time, i thought it was kidney stones at one point then all signs pointed to colon cancer. So i had a few tests done and got the all clear. I religiously avoided all my triggers for like...3 months and even found new ones doing that! Peas and high protein stuff sets me off. Also the stress was not helping! good luck i hope it all goes okay

Yes to the spf on hands. I’m really bad doing my neck too. Just to let you know when you started the eye cream bit you said sunscreen is a more expensive moisturiser instead of eye cream is (I know it was a mistake!)
@becxification9 ай бұрын
I've always moisturised even with oily skin. Couldn't afford expensive items, so it was a basic face wash like Garnier or Neutrogena for oily skin, and Nivea oil free moisturiser which contained 'uv filters' - no SPF rating so I just hoped for the best and applied extra by my eyes 😂. I'm currently using Dermatica and have ordered some 'Gruum' products to compliment it 😊. Eye cream I've got a few so I just grab what's nearest - I don't have many lines (The magic 'UV filters in that good ol' Nivea?), so I just use something to brighten and tighten with a bit of moisturisation in it 👌. Thank you for the continued content James, really piques my interest and is relevant, informative, and highly amusing at times! Also thank you for your honest and candid reviews - this is what influencing SHOULD look like 🥰

This whole video hit home for me I don't watch any skin care videos anymore because I am an anxious spender and I have actually really messed up my skin barrier in a terrier way multiple times. I have allergies and eczema and didn't have health insurance until recently so I have a doctor now and I am pretty much healed now aside from my redness. But I was always influenced into trying new things and chasing poreless glass skin and it just isn't really possible. And people don't look like that in real life. I used to even think that if I got Botox I could get rid of all my pores too. I don't know but I love this video I needed to see this thank you ❤

I completely think your gut affects your skin health. Your colon and small intestines get rid of a mass amount of toxins from your body, and if you are backed up or have issues with digestion, it can absolutely affect your skin. I find that the healthier my gut is, the less breakouts and inflammation I have in general. Inflammation in your body can also affect a ton of bodily functions, so the healthier you eat for your specific needs, the better you will feel overall. Everyone is different, obviously, so not everyone will have the same dietary needs. It's worth looking into if you have bad health or skin issues though. Thanks for another great video James! ❤

Find what works for you but I have found for me that less is more because sometimes you wind up chasing side effects (like with any treatment). Up until I was 35, it was oil of Olay bar soap and body lotion. No sunscreen, no serums. Sunscreen when I was growing up was not as cosmetically elegant for anyone medium or deeper. I now have found some great gel cream options with no cast that I can apply the recommended amount without looking like I’m on my deathbed and are really hydrating. Very little makeup because it either didn’t show up or didn’t look good. I couldn’t even wear pantyhose because it looked so weird. Figured I should start looking at other options as I aged. I went into L’Occitane and when they asked what I was in for, I explained that at 35 I needed something more. They didn’t believe me and asked what I had been doing. At 44, my niece’s friends think I am their age. There is so much that goes into aging in regards to genetics, diet, activity and other peoples perception of our age, your personality, your energy, and more. I also think that stress and not knowing how to cope with it can have a major impact.

I recently turned 33. In my early twenties, I definitely had that mentality of feeling invincible. A meal could be just a caramel frappe, and soda multiple times a day. Basically, more sugar than water! When I turned 25, it's like a switch flipped and I was suddenly jogging every morning after having a PLATTER of fruit, drinking 2liters of water every day. It was astounding how different my skin was! I don't live somewhere jogging friendly anymore, but I still try to get my servings of fruit and veggies in every day. Luckily, sunscreen has always been part of my routine because of never letting go of my goth phase. ☠️ Using moisturizer on my face is a very new addition for me. I am planning on buying a red light panel for my partner and I to use some day. Ideally, we will use it while meditating "au natural", making it a multipurpose session. Hey, if you're reading this and have some water to drink, CHEERS! 🌊

I don’t get why people act like it’s such a huge deal that you need to use a red light mask consistently. I love using my mask. It gives me a reason to just be still and chill for 10 minutes. I feel like it’s so meditative and just a nice little act of self-love.

I can relate to all of these but especially the last one. A few years ago (genuinely don't know how long) I became lactose intolerant and it affects my skin so much. I get cystic acne and a lot of redness depending on what I eat and it took me a WHILE to figure it out, and every time I eat too much junk food or something like that in a few days I can feel the difference on my face. Wish my younger self was better at listening to my body 😅

Although at one point during the skin care craze in covid era I switched up my routine by adding more stuff to it and it ruined my skin for a while. But I wish I was more consistent with taking care of my body tho like using body lotions, body scrubs and hair mask n stuff lol but I'm just so lazy sometimes

Us in our 30s need to remember we did not have these great resources on skincare in our 20s and it was most definitely a luxury. So expensive with minimal options! Not to mention the content we were consuming was totally opposite….. the 2016 make up beat and witch hazel craze 😂😂 just wreaking havoc on our poor skin lmao

I do wish I had slept more and eaten less/better. And not spending a third of my day in the toilet with IBS would have been lovely. I also smoked from a very young age until I was 40. Within a month of stopping I could see a huge difference in my skin. So if anyone is still doing it, please stop and see if you notice the skin get better as quickly as I did. P.S I stopped smoking before I got pregnant and started back up when each son became two.
