Skinny Water Fishing For Blue Catfish

Dryw and I went exploring and found this little stretch of skinny water. We were surprised to catch some blue catfish in such a small body of water.

It amazes me every time I see you guys catching such large catfish out of such narrow rivers/creeks. We've got a creek here that's at least double the width of that river you guys fish in a lot and I've never pulled anything over 5lbs out of it. Even the river that runs through this county, is as wide as that creek and double or triple as wide in some spots, I haven't caught anything over 5lbs. It's crazy.

Casual Carolina Fishing big water doesnt mean big fish ... find a hole atleast 5 ft deep and and drop a big ole perch head in it on a 6/0 hook and youll find somtging over 12 lbs

lol, yeah I get that, and I've fished in 15'-20' spots in our river and still never got anything over 5lbs.

Casual Carolina Fishing if your river has alot of current try and find a spot where the current sloes down and drop you bait right on the line where you see the calm water hitting the fast water ... I caught a 25 lb flat head 5 ft off the bank doing this lol

Actually, the river here in my county (Haw River) only has channel catfish and bullhead catfish. No Blues or Flatheads at all. There are Blues and Flatheads both in counties about an hour or a bit more away from here though (Neuse, Tar and Cape Fear Rivers). It's just a long way to go to fish in waters you aren't familiar with and no friends who are familiar with it either. lol I wasn't complaining, so much as just commenting on how nice it must be to be able to find nice big fish like that in skinny waters when I would have to travel over an hour to find fish like that, even though I have lots of creeks and a fairly large river close by. I'm really not sure why the NC fish and game commission decided to NOT stock the Haw River with Blues and Flatheads when they did stock other rivers in the state with them. It could be because the Haw River has so many damns on it. I dunno.

ive been fishing the flooded Mississippi in Louisiana its all the way to the levee and its only about 6 feet at the most 3 feet in some places but the action is non stop so it doesn't always have to be super deep water in my case thats just where the bait fish are coming to

Thats flood water, from a river...when the water gets high lots of catfish move to the shallows to feed and escape the current.
