(Spoilers for season 2) I'm sad for Ichika. I am. I never saw her as a stand-alone character. She was nice, flirting, and seemed responsible with her work life. In season 1 she was a supporting role, supporting Miku. Encouraging her, budging her closer to Fuutaro. That made the betrayal all the more heartbreaking. Season 1 was Miku's in my opinion. She got a crush on him second episode. And whole season she was working up the courage to admit it openly to herself. Season 2 could have been Ichika's. 10 points for buying the apartment so they could keep Fuutaro. An amazing first big independent act. But it went downhill from there. Take the fight between Nino and Itsuki. What if this happened instead. Ichika: "Miku, as the smartest one of us, you tutor Yotsuba while Fuutaro and I look for Nino" Then all of Miku's scenes in season 2 would be Ichika's. She'd have one on one to bond and help Fuutaro AND be a big sister to Nino, as the only one who possibly could. That could have been the first act of self-insertion into a main Active character as opposed to just a main title character. But instead, her biggest most memorable scene is either her acting in a movie or hurting Miku. Hell, Miku and Nino get jobs to support HER in this season. They're already big players, and now they're supporting Ichika. Since season 1, I was team Miku. Season 2 put Nino neck in neck. But there was an unspoken rule. No matter who he chooses, the sisters must always have each other's best interests in heart. They must be sisters. No matter what. Ichika was the first to violate that. And I found it so hard to forgive, even though Miku did. Furthermore, I know how to do the betrayal better. Ichika learns NINO likes Fuutaro, and dresses up like her to turn him down. She's caught, and Nino is upset at her. Asking how she could do this. Even Minu is upset too. In their room, Nino confronts Ichika alone. Demanding an explanation. Nino: "How could you do this! We're supposed to be sisters!" Ichika, fighting tears: "Why do you even care? You hated him when we met! Miku loves him, she's smart and caring, and he deserves her!" Nino: "She does...? That, that doesn't... I love him too, Ichika! I told you I love him in the springs! Even if you weren't going to help me, you didn't have to stab me in the back! Ichika, tears bursting: "That makes three of us!" Nino: "What?" Ichika, Crying: "I love him too, Nino... I have done since the camping trip..." Nino: "I... what are you talking about?" Ichika: "I love him just as much as you and Miku, but she... I, I've been helping her... I've tried to hook them up... It wasn't meant to be like this..." *sobs* "If I can't have him... then I want to help Miku... I'm sorry Nino," Nino, also has tears. Ichika: "I know it was wrong. But I didn't know what to do... I guess I decided that, If I can't have him... then I want to make sure Miku does... I'm sorry Nino" This way she still has the betrayal. But it's selflessness. She's helping Miku, not herself. And Nino can relate to her knowing they both love him. She's less a villain, more a mislead anti hero.
