*Great reel, **enjoyable.fishing** recommend very smooth and I love that you can change from left hand to right hand so easily. Gave it a 4 on durability because I haven’t had it long enough to rate it. Doing good so far.*

Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

Finally, a concise tutorial on how to understand this technique. Only thing lacking might be how to dial-in the baitcaster to obtain proper settings. This was very helpful info. Might add a new dimension to bass-fishing for many anglers.

Thanks for the feedback Mike! I really do appreciate the input. I'm glad you brought that up as dialing in the reel and selecting the right equipment will be featured in my upcoming Advanced Skipping video. Tight Lines!!

You’ve gained a new subscriber! I’ve been scrolling through watching your videos and learning a ton! I fish Alatoona just about every Wednesday during the summer from March until late October. After watching your videos I have a couple new approaches I’ll take when fishing Alatoona later this year. Thank you for the informative videos!

I'm jealous of your pitch skip. I haven't mastered that one yet. I'm pretty consistent at a regular skip though. I love when you get it just right and it glides perfectly across the water for 15-20 feet

I like the distance away from the dock you stay. When I fish with my brother he likes to fish a bit closer to the slips. When I'm too close I sometimes have epic skipping fails lol

Sir, could you please do a comparison of skipping jigs with a curado DC vs a standard baitcaster. This type comparison has not been done and it has never been addressed on you tube. Due to two totally different braking systems, people are confused about the ability of a DC reel to skip as good as a traditional baitcaster brake system.

very clear explanation on how to skip with a weighted lure with a bait caster, but does it change if you try a weightless bait? is it possible to skip a weightless wacky rig with a bait bait caster or a different approach on how to?
@RyanKennedyFishing
@RyanKennedyFishing 7 жыл бұрын
Yes it is possible to skip a weightless lure on a baitcaster. In that case it is the same technique just adjusting your brakes and spool tension knob to compensate for the weight.

+Logan Lindstrom Whenever I go to a new lake I start by power fishing (something I can cover water with). After I have located some fish then I like to slow down and finesse fish to try to catch more or bigger fish.

Where do you set your brake
@um8kthecall
@um8kthecall 8 жыл бұрын
Great video !!! How much thumb action are you using with bait caster and what break setting do you suggest
@RyanKennedyFishing
@RyanKennedyFishing 8 жыл бұрын
Mark, I tend to turn my brakes and spool control down to a rather low setting. When I'm using this technique, I rely heavily on just using my thumb to control the spool speed and at the same time maintaining the line in order not to get a backlash. If you are just starting out, I recommend that you complete the following process: 1. Tie on the bait you want to skip 2. Turn your brakes off 3. Adjust your spool control until you find the point where you can let the bait free fall to the ground and hit the ground without creating a backlash 4. After you find that point, start with your brakes at the halfway point or above and go down from there Hope this helps!

ok, so does the weight of the lure really matter when your are skipping and can you skip crank baits the same?
@RyanKennedyFishing
@RyanKennedyFishing 7 жыл бұрын
Buck, weight of the lure does matter especially if you are just starting out. A jig for instance will skip much easier at 3/8 oz than a 1/2 oz. Typically most people stay away from skipping treble hook baits, because of the water resistance that the treble hooks cause in the water.
