I've been in the Skoda Fabia and VW Polo, I must say the Fabia is more practical and cheaper, whereas the Polo has more identity and quality

I have also a Fabia and polo. The two cars are really reliable but the quality goes to polo. The first part i changed on the Fabia after the oil, air and fuel filters was the brake pads at 100000km. But the price of this new Fabia is really expensive and can reaches the value of 28k. I have to say that it is more advantagable to buy a golf mk8 of mk7 at this price

My Fabia 1 combi was value for money. Space on a budget, which Dacia offers currently. Skoda sells these days for premium prices. I just don't get the policy of VAG. And a 5 speed gearbox on the TSI is out of date. It does look good, but it's just not on par with the competition. Missed opportunity I'm afraid.

Sadly the small cars aren't so small anymore with the prices. Fabia with some additional features goes very close to €25k. I'd rather buy a Leon at that price.

I have the Fabia mark 1. It is just big enough and a nice looking car. The latest iteration is big and bland and not much different from the restyled VW Polo. Neither is for me.

​@@eattherich9215 Yeah, well, the difference between Polo is the price. I personally bought a Leon instead, it's relatively close to the Golf but costs 5k less. I was thinking about the Ibiza but realistically speaking, I don't care about the 5000 km the Leon had already been driven when the price was identical to a similarly equipped Ibiza.

@@disadadi8958: I wasn't thinking about the price difference, but the go bigger trend for no apparent reason. I can't afford a new car but if I could, neither this nor the updated Polo would be it.

U get a 5 speed gearbox on the 95 BHP along with all the mpi engines and on the 110 BHP u can either get 6 speed manual or 7 speed auto. The 150 bhp only comes with a 7 speed auto.

In the netherlands we will only get te 95 5-speed manual and the 110 dsg.

Great review mate,but what's refinement like is there much wind and road noise on the motorway.

There's actually not a lot of road noise. I don't mention it, but sound insulation is quite good. Was driving over bad roads, and still...

I'm glad this aspect was raised by another reader as it concerns me too. I suppose the fact that the reviewer didnt raise the subject speaks reassuringly for itself from which I take it that that the noise factor at speed isn't bothersome.

It's the same car under different outfits but that said, my money is on the Fabia, it's the cheaper Polo

I don’t like the fact u have to go into the infotainment screen to adjust the fan speed.

@@scottmyles4377 yep. I hate it. Why have both temp then fan speed on the screen completely useless. I’ve seen a few more companies do this where it’s all on the screen.

@@connory6741 i do see that there is a ‘menu’ button by the climate controls.I was wondering if by pressing that it brings up all the aircon menus on the screen ? I see the Golf and Octavia have been slated for this.Only the A3 retains the full ‘button system’

@@scottmyles4377 I guess thats better then scrolling through the screen but still u might be distracted. Personally I like physical buttons and everyone else who I know who drives. But what I’ve also noticed is that most MK3 owners are of an older age group. So they’d most likely struggle not to say everyone isn’t capable of doing it but the fact that older people along with younger people are most likely to cause an accident. But that’s what this world is coming to. It’s all going digital.

Only an issue if you have the manual airconditioning though, if you have the automatic climate control the car will adjust fan speed by itself ad you only have to select the temperature. So no eyes off the road at all for 99% of the time basically.

It's about pricing. Skoda customers are price sensitive and adding 5k€ hybrid systems is lifting fabia price too high for their main customers in lower middle class.

The original Ocravia was built in 1959. So any comparison with any 2021 model is not really sensible.

The 2000ish golf 4 based octavia 1 was already something like 4,25 or something close. That extra length was all luggage space so the interior room of this fabia could be like an octavia 1.

@@nielsdebakker3283 What you call the octavia 1 is actually the first octavia built after VW takeover. Suggest you lookup the history of the octavia.
