I have just come in from the garage having replacing the headlights on mine....easy enough job but my old ones have what looks like the adjustment motor on them and I haven't figured out how to get those units out and install them on the new headlights yet. I need to look into that. Also I need to check the aim on them, but that's tomorrow's task. Thanks for the video, mate.....it helped me quite a lot. Nifty little cars - we have zero regrets at having bought ours last year. Your channel is a great resource.

You're welcome, I changed the motors over on mine easily enough, but can't remember how it's done. Maybe I'll have a look into showing that in a video 🎥 :-)

I know it’s too late to help you, but for anyone reading this comment, to remove the motor you have to turn it and it’ll became loose.

Hi Harvey thanks for such an informative video. My adjusters are out of place, I dislodged them while attempting to adjust the beam. I wonder if you have a tutorial about that? TIA
@eliasnieminenАй бұрын
Hello Harvey! Thank you so much for this video, it helped me out greatly when changing out the headlight units on my Fabia. I'm a regular viewer and really appreciate the high-quality content! The only problem for me was that I couldn't get the front bumper's last clip to fall into place afterwards. It looks so easy when you do it. Any pro tips how get it back into place? Some documentation on the experience on my behalf: (1) On the 1.4 16V Fabia (2005), the engine bay has much more room to fiddle about, so the bottom screws weren't as difficult to handle as they were in your car. (2) One thing to take into account when using new headlight units is that the old top screws might not fit into the new one's holes. I had to enlarge the metal holes with a flat-headed screwdriver to make the old screws fit properly. (3) The adjustment motor is easy to pull out by turning the motor (clockwise or counterclockwise depending on the side) and pulling out firmly. It looks like it might break but it doesn't (at least it required some courage from me...). The new units don't come with a motor unless explicitly specified so. Instead, in the new one, there's a piece of plastic as a placeholder where the adjustment motor should be, and it can also be pulled out in a similar fashion as the motor itself (turn and pull firmly). I hope these notes help someone who is preparing to change their headlight units! Thanks again, Harvey, for these amazing videos! (I really appreciate the sound design too :D)

Thanks for sharing that, I'm sure it will be read by many. As far as the bumper screws go, that depends upon which screw you call the last one. If as I will presume you haven't gotten the bumper to pull the lip over the side end then this will misalign all the other screws, as it must be pulled over the last lip. Firm waggle is the skill needed here :-)
@eliasnieminenАй бұрын
@@HatBoyHarvey Yes, I guess I have to try waggling again after a nice cup of coffee. The last lip of the bumper (the closest to the wheel) is the problem for me, it just will not reattach. Luckily, I was able to still attach the three lowest screws inside the wheel arch, even though the last lip wasn't attached properly... Let's see.

Great Video, many thanks. Is it possible to check power steering fluid by removing the from left head lamp on a 1.9 PD, right hand drive?
@HatBoyHarvey6 ай бұрын
Good question. I ruled that out as you would have to re-align the headlight adjustment if you did and it looks too tight. I don't think you can get the cap off, I never tried. This is how I did it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z326hWCPps6HsKcsi=Jm1G9uNMiwUKJAC3. But, if you can find a way video it, post it on your channel and let me know :-)

Good informative video, these headlight units respond well to polishing up to remove the haze that develops on the lens, that operation is best done with h/light removed as per the video. Nice torx set you have there too👍

@HatBoyHarvey4 ай бұрын
Hard to source, try ebay, sometimes you may find one, but maybe easier at a breakers yard. New I find Czechia Skoda companies, try skodaparts.com. You need a part number if you can find one. The main dealers may help with the part number, but a wiring loom would be very expensive if they will sell one to Joe public :-)

Hey there I want to change my headlights for my skoda fabia mk1 and I mostly understood your instructions from the video. I just have one question. How do I exaclty take out the electric adjustment motor from the old headlights and put it into the new ones? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

I need both my front ones replacing. Become oxidised now they say wipe them with turtle wax but they are chipped and I think it's inside the unit where the problem is spent time on them just cannot get them clear.

Hello Harvey! First of all I want to say amazing work with the skoda fabia repair playlist. My mom has an old fabia which I usually take care of many things myself and your videos really helped me so much this far, thank you. Also I have a question for you, the problem with our fabia is that the headlight adjuster units (electric motor inside the unit & the white adjuster screws) are broken so you cannot adjust the height of the bem of the light. I would like to know if I can adjust the height of the beam playing with the adjuster knot bolt as its the only option that I have and that comes into my mind. Thank you in advance :)
@HatBoyHarvey2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the support. The light unit moves within the outer shell which the adjusters attach to. If the adjustment has been moved to the maximum on either screw it can sometimes appear that they don't work, so it maybe worth checking for that. Cheap replacement units can also not work correctly as I had one that did that with the adjusters. If you buy a new unit either buy an OEM one from a scrapped vehicle or a good new one from a shop that you can return it to if found not to work rather than online :-)

My 2002 seems to have one bottom bolt that is inserted from the underside. Are you sure this works for the 2002 model+
@HatBoyHarvey3 жыл бұрын
All the bolts are accessed from the top and front. What model is your car and do you have a modified or different unit?

@HatBoyHarvey3 жыл бұрын
you can loosen them, but although it looks like you can take them out, you can't easily extract/insert them without damaging the bumper (I wouldn't recommend a go).
