Hidden Skopelos Island - Walking Mt Palouki Trail Loop
Spring in Skopelos is the perfect time to do some hiking. Maria, a Skopelian, has mapped out several long forgotten island trails (monopatis) using old military and agricultural maps. On a warm Sunday in May, she guided us on this newly available trail.
This route starts at Sklavenitis supermarket heading towards Stafilos Beach on the main road for 400 m before bearing left on a dirt track going SE to E. It soon meets a trail and follows the ridge up to the microwave towers and the summit of Mt. Palouki nearby. From there, it meets up with the T1 trail and follows Monastery Hill back to the outskirts of Skopelos Town. The hike is about 12 km and offers an amazing variety of landscapes and cultural sites.
The entire route is mapped out on Wikiloc under the title “Skopelos - Palouki Mountain Loop” (www.wikiloc.co....
Skopelos has dozens of fantastic trails - some quite large (kalarimis) and others smaller (monopatis), many of which are being restored by the efforts of Heather Parsons and Skopelos Trails.
