Shoei rf1200, gt air, and Arai Corsair are all great bot cheap helmets. I still think there would be battery issues with this helmet and you may have to even order or send in the helmet for a replacement. It's not a far fetched idea. The trch is cool but reevu makes a helmet where you can see behind you without any batteries and to be honest my rf1200 beats almost everything out there for street riding. It would take a lot more than a hud to make me want it. Field of view Field of view in full tuck How quiet/loud it is Wind resistance (my rf1200 has non) Weight Snell Approved Airflow Pad comfort but also ability to stay snug after break in Pinlock? Price... I use to work in the motorcycle industry and it can be hard to get people to even soend $400 on a helmet let alone $1,500. Price would have to be adjusted especially with this helmet not able to meet snell approval.

my issue with all of these smart helmets is simple, after 5 years the materials in them degrade and you gotta replace it if you want your dome safe. so what every 5 years you have to fork over the equivalent of a craigslist dirt bike to get a replacement? no thanks. bc you know they will have a new model by then and you won't be able to get the older one cheaper.

Great initial first impression. Really like that you try to give an honest, unbiased review. I think the bottom line for me is, this helmet, if it works well can help save lives and make riding safer. To me, I think that's absolutely worth $1500. However, if it has issues with the tech breaking, camera problems, voice command issues, etc, it could really spoil the helmet and cause it to be a huge bust. At that price point, you need to have an AMAZING and FLAWLESS experience. So they really need to get things right the first time around.
@JaretCampisi8 жыл бұрын
+Grant SKULLY Hey Grant, that's great to know. So if something goes wrong in the helmet would that mean we would be shipping them back to you guys for fixing? Also, I know with smart phones, batteries are always an issue with longevity. A helmet at that price point would be something I'd want to hold onto for a long time. Are the batteries easily replaceable or have they been tested as far as how long they last etc? And finally, I ride a GSXR 600 and have a growing youtube channel. I'd love to get my hands on one of these to do a review/initial impressions myself. Feel free to shoot me an email if that's something that could happen in the future. JaretCampisi@gmail.com

+Grizz Axxemann bounce any helmet once and its done.
@GrizzAxxemann8 жыл бұрын
***** Not an Arai.You can bounce one of those and it won't be any worse for wear, save for the paint. Polycarbonate cracks. Fiberglass doesn't. Sure, you have to replace either one after a crash, but at least you don't blow $1500 if the helmet gets dropped or falls off something. Skully should have used better shell material. Polycarbonate is junk.
@mattburkett94198 жыл бұрын
Grizz Axxemann Out of the dozens of helmets I have dropped or seen dropped I have NEVER seen a poly helmet crack, but as Skully uses carbonfibre reinforced polycarbonate your argument is invalid. It's also invalidated by the fact that the shell material is actually the least important factor in helmet safety. They use carbonfibre in high end helmets because it ways less, not because its a better material. And if we're really getting into the details the actual makeup of the poly or carbon fibre will have an immense impact on it's durability, there are high end polycarbonates and low end glass and carbon fibre materials. In fact, most carbon fibre materials are stiffer and more likely to fracture than poly which makes them a poorer choice for safety because the absorb less impact force.

Thank you CTW for the first 48 hour impressions. I will say the visor is neat for sure. What I can say is even if Skully can't kick this off right by leaving customers waiting for their products, these ideologies will go into future helmets. I can see the big names coming out with their own versions as soon as this actually hits the market. They can benefit with less R&D based upon the likes and dislikes of the AR-1 users. '

For those complaining about the price tag, it may be premuim but its not that bad. Its like google glass/ HUD + a good helmet + a rear view camera. Google glass alone was $1500 so everything else adds quite a bit of convenience and value.

Thanks for the review. You reminded us that you'd had the helmet for 48 hours... like 48 times. haha. 48 hours is the same as two days, I think. So, if you had alternated between "48 hours" and "2 days" and "a short time" it would've been much more palatable to the ear. You made me want to go look up the price tag for the helmet. But, it would've been cool if you'd thrown the MSRP in a title overlay. Anyway, I've been watching your clips for a while now. Love 'em. Good job.

The GPS killing your phone battery is simply because GPS in general uses a lot of power. Great impression video dude. One thing that I wish the helmet had (for the price especially), would be an integrated MicroUSB port in the back of the hemet. It might be a really small detail, and in the long-run, not really important, but it's the small things that make a huge difference. The external hanging wire looks clunky and not too well thought out, and having a streamlined profile with an integrated port would make a huge difference aesthetically. Just my two cents.

does the screen flex/disconnect? all i can think is a minor crash and ending up with a screen into my eyeball

I worked with a computer engineer and a software guy and developed my own version of a Skully. Now it's obviously not a finished product but it shows the screen of my phone, and it has video switching to show a rear view camera that's under the tail of my bike so I know what is around me at all times. The camera sends it wirelessly to the helmet with a simple 2.4ghz sender/receiver. I basically hacked movie glasses to make it. I'm trying to make it better. If I get backing you're looking at like $250 and fits any helmet. Can be controlled a bunch of ways. Super straightforward so if anyone wants to help me let me know. Not with money but actual knowledge, etc.
