I think its pretty horrible that people who want to pay for a streaming service have to pay a premium for the luxury of not having to sit through the horrendous, repeating ADs. We're already paying for a service, give us the complete service. Its pretty disgraceful.

I live in an apartment block, smack bang in BS1 in the centre of the UK’s 6th largest city. There is not a service provider out there, including Sky who can offer fibre optic broadband. Our average speed is 9mb, with a max speed of 14mb. Sky’s Glass is out of the question. I’m not a tele addict, but my wife is. We have Sky Q with multiroom and she loves it. She is an absolute and complete technophobe, vut had no issues mastering the Sky Q user interface. If we ever had the broadband capability to make Sky Glass feasible, the lack of ability to store your own recordings would be a deal breaker. I’ve also very recently invested in a premium 77 inch OLED which negates the need for the hardware side of Sky Glass. Since this video first aired, I believe Sky have introduced ‘Sky Stream’. I think this is basically Sky Glass with out the need for their tv. I think both these new technologies/formats will catch on. Sky Glass is an easy way of getting your hands on an ‘ok’? large flat screen 4k tv with Sky access with out needing a fat wallet. Sky Stream enables those potential customers who don’t have access to a dish to enjoy the world of Sky, or those customers who have already invested in premium viewing facilities, access to Sky with out the need of a dish. I really t think this will shape the future of tv. For me, well whilst our communal satelite dish continues to provide a strong and dependable signal, Sky Q is the best option currently out there.

I would be more interested in a glass or puck is you could merge the 2 systems. Example I have q in my home main box and 3 minnis I need something for my kitchen and conservatory id go for a streaming TV I those but not as a new system over the whole house

I’m holding out for the stand-alone Sky-over-internet product because even after repeated attempts to fix it our communal satellite system in my block is a bit weak and I get quite a few weather dropouts. No recording on Sky Glass is bad though. Does that also mean no live pause & rewind? I would really miss that. I wonder whether Sky might be moving to storing recordings in the cloud so that they can charge an extra monthly fee for different amounts of storage space a bit like how cloud storage like iCloud, OneDrive and Google Drive pricing works, a modest amount of storage for free then pay an extra monthly fee to get more.

Phoned Sky to see what deal they could offer me as my 2 year Sky Q contract is up and the best they could offer me is my existing package for £63.50 (used.to be £50 and is going to cost £80 if I do nothing) OR same TV and internet package WITH a Sky Glass, £56 a month.... Hmmmmm wonder why the newer thing is cheaper? 🤔

Had sky glass for exactly.............1 day 😖, it kept freezing, the colour was like a south american news channel, the navigating through it was too much trouble. Got sky Q coming next week instead, yippee ki yay 👏👍

@@cliffordcowie93 i had my stream for a week and changed back to Q i couldn't get used to it the interface is good but its just annoying sometimes, recording, everytime i turned it on it took ages to start up and sometimes disconnected from the internet, the picture quality was way better than Q but was just something about it didnt like and switched back. it obviously happens a lot of the time coz when i phoned sky to swap back the woman on the phone said they have a new separate department for this type of thing people switching back to Q and they don't request your q boxes back for 2 months coz people always switch back

You make it sound like satellite is unreliable. It isn’t. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve lost my sat signal in the last 5 years. On the rare occasion a recording is lost yiu revert to skys catch up. Problem solved. The problem with Glass is it’s streaming, even stuff that’s available on freeview. Why would you bother to do that? This is just a smart tv with some, not all sky channels. If you want to record anything this is not what we need. Sky plus then sky Q was to replace a vhs machine. Oh, and if you wank sky glass in a box, just get now tv! This product is a non starter from day one!

The lack of recording ability makes it a hard no. It's this single biggest feature I've missed since stopping sky/virgin. Hopefully getting Sky Q in the next few weeks!

I wish I could make my own TV. Available in many sizes from 24 inch to 75 inch, Freeview and Freesat built in, all your shows in a list wether recorded or on streaming, modular so you can easily replace a broken HDMI port, expand onboard storage, maybe even add composite AV, the option of making you own channel list so you don’t have to switch between Freeview and Freesat for channels available on one platform but not the other, I’d even throw in some built in Sega Master System games!

What if I hook the TV to my Starlink system, would you still have a problem with skyglass, it's internet over satellite, faster than fibre too.

Great vids. I have skyq in the lounge and this is our only TV. We are looking to add a new TV to the conservatory. Is £13 pm on a sky glass a good option rather than buying a normal TV plus £15 pm on multiroom? Or do I still need multiroom? And a new subscription?

Lets say u go with the sky glass......u would need to set the sky glass as the primary television and then and a puck box to the secondary tv for the conservatory, it would need a subscription called the whole home £10 pm for the puck box to work...... If u were going to keep things as it is and get a normal television for the second room u would need the sky q mini box and a multiscreen subscription for £15 pm or cheaper depending upon the offers at that time.

Don't know why I'd want to lock myself into needing a specific TV. I get the switch to using the internet given traditional tvcasting methods just aren't keeping up with newer video technologies but not having a simple box option for that service is battling.

Going back to sky Q. Sky glass buffers despite having fast download. Switches off during viewing. Pucks switch on during the night. Shopping channels on sky q not on sky glass. Sky glass needs to be further tested and developed. Not for me in its present form

I had SkyQ installed today and sent SkyGlass back. The SkyGlass had so many issues. The main issue was the picture quality….UHD was worse than HD. I have Sky basically for sports and the picture quality was bang average. The SkyQ is so much better. Essentially SkyHD+ was improved by SkyQ…..and Glass is retrograde. The fact you can’t record is simply rubbish,

Thanks for this! Had Q a few years now but the actual Glass TV picture doesn't look as good as my Panasonic TV. Can't see a reason to switch tech at this point but I'm sure we are heading towards some form of Sky TV through IP in the future as dish-based systems cost more for Sky to maintain. Plus they also get to corner the apartments & flay market where you can't have a dish.

Sky have renewed their contract with SES (Astra) from May 2021 until 2028,at a guess they’ll probably make the switch to streaming.

@@Whizzy-jx3qe I think you're right. The Q box came out in 2016 and there's no plans to update the recordable box I don't think? Despite the inferior UI, I preferred the picture quality on the old Sky HD box, it was a glossier look compared to a Matte look on Q, if that makes sense?

A solution to the record problem is to use the mini box to stream then place the HDMI cable into a converter that produces digital feed that can go into a freeview recorder or dvd recorder that records HD. The HDMI converter also cancel the copy right protection. The second way to record is to use content capture for your pc then record the content to your computer hard drive.

So, if I bought a Sky Glass tv then after a while I decide to leave Sky but still have Sky Glass tv would the tv then become obsolete because I no longer have a Sky package, would that mean I would have to buy a new tv? If that would be the case I'll stick with my Sky Q box and my Samsung tv.

Nope, your Sky Glass would then behave the same as a normal TV. You just wouldn't be able to view the Sky content :)

Sky and apple have just announced that Apple TV+ is coming to Sky Glass / Q and equally sky go is coming to Apple TV. so if you have sky glass in your main room you can just use sky go on the Apple TV instead of using the new sky Puck. you will need an Apple TV tho for this but at least it could save some people from buying the pucks.

A TV solely reliant on streaming is a dealbreaker. Sky can sugar coat it all they want, but it’s such a downgrade! 140 channels compared to Freesat’s 170? Can’t record shows, only being able to add them to a list? 60hz when TVs at the turn of the century could get 100hz? That’s terrible! I would MUCH rather see a Sky Q Gold model with 8K and 4TB onboard storage! Don’t know how likely that is, but it’s still what I’d rather have!
