Useful video ( with no annoying music ) Thanks. You have taken the mystery out LNB installation, it looks a lot simpler than I thought it would be, but I haven't attempted it yet. I have been trying to find a video explaining how to install and align a complete satellite dish, I know it has to point south / east, but I am wondering how much clear line of sight it would need towards the actual satellite?

@@HektorBandimar that was meant to be my next video as my dish is slightly off alignment and I get rain fade on the signal. However, a Sky engineer is coming to update my receiver to Sky Q and needs to replace the cables so I’m expecting him align it.
@HektorBandimar8 күн бұрын
@@NigelEaland Thank you, I didn't realise the cables had to be renewed to take Sky Q, I thought it was just the LNB.
@NigelEaland8 күн бұрын
@@HektorBandimar that’s what I thought but the lady at sky said they need to be higher quality and low loss cables. Plus the LNB gets replaced which is a shame as I’ve only just done that. I suspect it’s more about renewing for the sake of reliable service and getting rid of any old tired cables.

Good job, remember to pull the plastic cover down on the LNB to protect those connectors from the elements.

Great informative video, do you have a method for setting the inclination of the dish, my brackets don't have the usual markings in degrees, thanks.
@NigelEalandАй бұрын
@@keithhughes2104 that may well be the subject of another video once the weather improves. As you saw in this video my dish bracket is angled down. When i replaced the LNB the signal was good but the weather was reasonably clear. Now I’m getting some rain fade and my dish needs better alignment. The dish needs to be mounted square and not at a slight tilt like mine. Sky is on satellite Astra 2D at 28.2 degrees E. Download an app called Dish Align which will give you the elevation, azimuth and LND rotation for where you live. You really should use a meter like mine to align the dish. You might get away with using the sky box for signal level and a spirit level app like Measure. Use a piece of wood across the dish face and put your phone up against it for elevation. There’s alway a delay in the sky box updating the signal level, so make small adjustments. The procedure is set elevation first then maximise the signal with azimuth. Then tweak elevation and azimuth repeatedly in turn to fine tune for maximum signal. Finally rotate LNB for best signal on each pole. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

Just one thing the connections on the lnb should be sealed with tape or there should be a cover on the lnb itself.

@@1jazzymun Yes there’s a cover on the LNB that I missed pulling down and including in the edit before posting. Thanks for the comment and watching.

Greetings Sir. I was into FTA back in 2010 .I used two sonicview SV-8000hd receivers.One of them has the 8psk module. I pulled them both out of the closet last week and they work fine. Question. Are my two receivers outdated to use today for FTA?

my neighbour if building an extension and it has just got to the height of my sky dish. Now I am getting the no signal message, presumably I will have to have my dish repositioned. I am afraid that I don't have the confidence to do it my self
@NigelEalandАй бұрын
@@jimc2676 always best to get a satellite engineer in as it requires very fine adjustment to get optimal reception. You could have a chat with your neighbour. Maybe they would pay to put it right.

Very useful for me, I lost the signal to my dish and on inspection discovered the exact damage you had on your LNB, have yet to buy a new one but going for an octo, is there anything I should know about which one to buy

@@JamesDouglas-nm5fj a universal LNB works fine on Sky HD but for SkyQ you need a wideband. Best do a google search.

Wouldn't really say it's complicated lol and wouldn't really say SKY glass or stream is the future you might like it and think it's good but comes down to choice and preferences i like the internet but it'll never be the future for TV and radio always be terrestrial and DAB for me due to sound and picture quality streaming compresses it don't full sound quality and picture but thats my view Jim 👍 just like you are entitled to yours.

@@Kieran-m7f What will happen if they don't replace the satellites when they run out of fuel in 2029? Virgin has used the internet for years and I live in a listed building which doesn't allow dishes so Sky glass worked for me. I also can't get a DAB signal in the house so I am all internet for home phone, Radio and TV and so far very impressed. I have an auto dish on my motorhome so worried what will happen if no new Astra sat is launched. Yes, as you say, we have to go with what works for us.
