Hi Steve, nice video, i gave apple 4k tv a try after watching this however it just didnt work for me, i have sky Q and the picture quality is completely different, im not sure if its because its internet streamed rather than coming through a dish but i tried to watch a film in 4K and the colours was completely off compared to the 4K HDR on the Sky Q box, also the football on sky sports is only in HD and not 4K, this i couldnt get along with either as i have UHD channel on sky q which gets upscaled to 8K through the T.V, the difference is insane, so although these are a great alternative for people who cant have a sky dish i just dont see any internet based T.V ever being able to outshine the classic non internet based service. All the time Sky Q is around i dont think i will ever switch. Keep up the good work though, your video certainly made me want to try it and im glad i did!

FYI @Rate My Tech, in TV Launcher if you choose Settings > General > Program Default Action and set to "Watch Channel", you can skip the screen where it asks you to Watch Live - makes the whole process a lot quicker

Hi Steve, love the Apple 4k box, it’s head and shoulders above all other boxes including Sky Stream especially with the TV launcher app. It would be great if a fully working SkyGo app could be added, I think ATM you can add it but it doesn’t allow you to play your recordings

Hi, I’m enjoying the videos and I am sorely tempted by this Apple TV 4K, as my VM subscription ends next month. The only thing that deters me, as many have said, is the lack of a recording facility. There are times when several programmes overlap and it’s oh so easy to just press the red button and it’s there waiting for you, no having to come out of what you’re watching, find an app, find the programme (if it’s there and then shuffle through it to find where you were). I realise I’m of the older generation where sometimes, simplicity is the answer staring you in the face 😐😐. My question though, is there a multi-channel recorder available to hook up to a streaming device and we could have the best of both worlds and if so, please tell us and share the joy with all us who are thinking of pulling the trigger on this modern concept ha ha.

Something I find a bit frustrating about the Apple TV is that it’s the best streaming box in terms of look and feel, but you can tell a lot of app providers don’t treat it as their main platform. For example, the iPlayer app still lacks the child mode features, ITVX has some colour range issues, and Netflix doesn’t have the typical rating system. This is frustrating as even though things like Sky have crummier versions of the apps, they are more feature complete and better supported. This is likely because companies have to develop bespoke apps just for the Apple TV, while their more widely used apps can just be chucked on any old streaming box or TV. This has been holding the Apple TV back for me since I first bought one in 2015 and found the key apps like iPlayer riddled with silly issues.

Decided to give Apple TV 4K a go and although I’m happy with it there are a couple of glitches. ITVX always asks me to try again when logging in and after a number of clicks finally registers which drives my wife mad first thing in the morning!! Tried it on my LG TV and I can’t control the volume it either goes right to the maximum or back to zero using the Apple remote nothing in between and overrides the LG controller. If anyone knows how to overcome these problems please let me know.

Thing is if u go with apple as your streaming box u will have adverts specially on itv. Unless u pay premium and all the extra add ons can add up to more then what sky stream box charge..

Hi Steve mate fantastic video as always, i personally use my Sony Bravia tv for all my apps it has Android built in and imo nothing comes close to it's quality, Appletv is probably closest to it out of the devices i have used but the Bravia tv still out performs it in quality and speed.

I don’t think TV’s have good enough processing power to rival a Roku 4K or Apple TV 4K box. I’d like to see the LG TV or any other do a live stream of a football match without glitches. Once something rivals satellite performance is when we will be there and I think we’re very close. Recording functionality is the biggest hurdle for me and a few others I’ve already read. Local device live download as Ive already said could “cure” the issue if possible??? I do t know my tech enough to know if it is.

I wonder if Apple bought out a companion USB stick that linked to the main box this could be used on other TV’s around the house. Roku and others are cheap so multiple can be bought for more TV’s whereas around £150 for the Apple box isn’t practical for a multi TV setup

Even though I use an LG gallery OLED TV, which btw has an extremely fast response time. Apple TV has more Dolby Atmos movies than any of its rivals. Plus when purchasing movies from Apple TV, if at a later date the movie happens to be remastered with HDR or Dolby Atmos unlike other streaming platforms no extra charge with Apple TV. With that being said I'm afraid to say unless one has got a Dolby Atmos pass through TV. The best audio one is going to be able to receive will probably be Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital plus at best. IMO we need some regulation in in this industry! Dolby seems to be getting away with a lot of shit lately.

As nice as it is to have Atmos the streamed audio is very noticeably worse than the 4K Blu-ray or even the standard Blu-ray audio. I use streaming for casual viewing but the good stuff I always get the 4K Blu-ray.

@@redrock425 yeah I couldn't agree with you more! The Lossless bandwidth one receives from 4K Blu-rays (or any discs for that matter) will always sound better then any kind of lossy streamed content. There's really no comparison. Not unless of course one is prepared to fork out for a Kaleidoscape movie player. It gives one best of both world's. Lossless visuals & audio with the convenience of being able to choose off the cuff. Shame it's still too expensive. £5000+. Mind you Kaleidoscape only a couple of years ago it was twice that.

Just got rid of sky a couple of months ago, have got 3x Apple TVs around the house, got now tv sports on offer with free 1 month trial of boost, clicked cancel boost before I was charged, got offered 6months boost for £2 per month, so can watch multiple streams around the house on the other Apple TVs

@@RateMyTech My Sky Stream Puck has given up the ghost, it's down to a fault with the Software and it wouldn't update the latest version, even though a tech expert from Sky tried to walk me through the process of recovery mode three times and without any luck. They cancelled my account, even though i have three months left. They did offer me a new Puck but with a £50 purchase, i reclined the offer as i was going to end the Contract in July anyway. I've been looking at the Apple TV 4k for a while and i'm just wondering is it as good as the Stream Puck, or is it much better

Steve, the TV LAUNCHER’s & Up Now, can’t see the point of it as if you add a program to UP NEXT it only adds it to the launcher & not UP NEXT on Apple TV, you have to remember to look at the TV LAUNCHER to see what’s in Up Next then as Siri to find the programs, could be better

Without a Download or Recording function it’s a No No from me. Especially for Sports!!! I don’t have an Apple TV 4K & my inherited Apple TV 3rd gen is now near enough obsolete so it’s never used and I think won’t work now. Are you still giving away an Apple TV 4K? if so it’s what I need. Please send me 1. 🙏 I did trash your last video on Sky Stream as I have Sky Q/Go. I still love u and ur videos and think this one was great, the TV Launcher is about 90% perfect, needs customisation such as maybe a favourites or numbering function, like the 1-99 on Sky Q. An Internet based Sky Q Box/App with Live Downloadable TV channels is the only way I could get rid of the dish. I’d call it Sky X and it would be better than Glass, Go, Q & Stream. A Sky X TV, Sky X App or Sky X stream. Would work well in the US too as they could say the X is for Xfinity!!!

You don’t need to record, on Apple TV once you’ve watched something & it’s a series the next episode automatically appears on Up Next, I’m very impressed, still got Sky Q have reduced my bill from £120 a month to £5 a month, I can still record but not as many channels, bbc, itv, ch4 & ch5 not in HD though

Really less of an issue for the target market. Younger generations use less and less old school tv. I’ve not recorded anything from tv in over 15 years and can’t say I’ve missed out. If it isn’t on demand or downloadable then it just doesn’t get watched.

@@danieldevine younger generations don’t know what Tv is so your argument again is invalid especially if you live in USA. On demand content often includes commercials. If something can be recorded e.g. on decoder with Linux than it can be extracted. There is lot of good things that won’t be available on demand and HBO even removes own content from their service. So the content must be recorded otherwise you may loose some pretty gems. And I am not younger generations. Streaming is soon on its death spiral and we come back to non-internet content delivery period.

Just ditched my Sky Glass subscription for Apple TV. I watch free streaming services. the best thing I have done in many years. Sky were greedy and kept putting the price up. One pound here and there until I no longer felt it was worth it. I am happy with my Apple TV 4K and TV Launcher app.
