12:47 That guy's actually the part-timer that works at night. The owner is the one who's there during the day; he changes into a different outfit and is the one who runs the Curiosity Shop at night. The part-timer actually is working part-time because he's in a band that apparently isn't making much money. You can see him in a tree in Termina Field trying to get some red rupees during the day. He says he stole the rupees from a crow... The same crow that circles Clock Town and is "fond of musical instruments" (according to a gossip stone) and will drop rupees for you if you play songs for it, implying he played music for the crow so it would drop rupees. Yeah, this game is amazing. Maybe the skybox that's left out is the one at the beginning of the game in the forest since you already covered it kind of?

I think that the rain on the second day is more about producing a feeling of disappointment and melancholy rather than urgency. After everything is bright and sunny on the first day, this is like a solemn moment when everyone is beginning to lose hope and realize that the moon is actually falling. This is probably about the point when many of the NPC's dialogue goes from "There's no way that the moon is falling!" to "Oh, shit, it really is falling... This is going to negatively impact the festival, isn't it?" It is about disillusionment and the sickening realization that things might not actually turn out okay in the end.
@KairuHakubi2 жыл бұрын
I took it as just a sign that things are still going along as usual. If you just stop the moon, everything else in the world will continue as if nothing happened. Just that bit of continuity. That and reinforcing the groundhog day loop because it ALWAYS rains on day 2.

I’ve always felt like the skyboxes in Majora’s Mask did a lot more for the atmosphere than they did in Ocarina of Time. One of the things I remember most vividly was how beautiful the night sky looked, with its rich purples and blues and reds on the final night especially. It was oddly serene; even though you’re going to die in a couple hours, the sky offers some level of comfort in your final hours.

I went to las vegas when I was really young and one of my strongest memories is the underground shopping area under ceasar's palace. The vibes were so surreal that I've been having dreams about it for basically my whole life ever since.

Its so weird, youre so right about the rain of day 2, it doesnt feel like it adds to any urgency, it makes it feel more normal somehow... i think the way i'd articulate it is that its almost like a distraction from the moon (despite it still being there), like yeah the sky is as normal as ever, its raining! how could something as bonkers as the moon falling be happening. also worth mentioning in my opinion is how weird it is that it rains in clock town when the moon should be acting like a giant umbrella over it, considering its directly above. it could be instead that the rain clouds are between the moon and the earth, but as only a skybox they very much visually are behind the moon... perhaps a missed opportunity for it to Not rain in clock town and to rain elsewhere, and maybe even some dialogue about it.

I think what you were trying to get at with the rain on day 2 is that it's a normal everyday annoyance overlaid on top of a terrifying existential threat (the moon) which creates this strange comfort. Like you get the sense of 'oh it's raining that sucks' but then you realize the world is going to end anyways, and so it almost flips that initial reaction to something more like 'at least it's still raining while it can, and at least that's normal'. It definitely feels more realistic and less like 'ooh it's dark and depressing, so it's cloudy and rainy now too', the world feels real enough that the rain is something you can think about as something with depth on its own and not just purely background stuff.

this channel is underrated. I love the dry sense of humor, great detail on the appreciation, and overall vibe of your videos. keep up the great work!

I like you. You bring up a lot of the mundane things that almost always go unnoticed in games, and I appreciate that someone takes time out of their life to point them out and give them some love too.

Just had the amusing experience of walking up to my bus stop listening to your stuff on Spotify (Good, good job, looking forward to seeing the impact of listening to If You Tell the Truth on a loop for five hours is going to have on my 2022 rewind or whatever) and was like alright let’s see if finishing up whatever video it was I started yesterday on the bus is a feasible option, and here’s a new video! Great news for me and watching on the bus was indeed feasible and fun. Then the more demented realization: that it has apparently only been in that short gap between weekly new videos that I’ve seen, conservatively, one million of your other videos. What I’m saying is you’re welcome for the demented analytics

I never really noticed this until you said it, but yeah, the nightsky in the Final Day does look more like a sunset. I feel like this also explains why it feels sort of unsettling and depressing. Great video

I just finished replaying Majora's Mask for the first time since I was in middle school about a week ago. What an absolutely phenomenal game. Easily my favorite Zelda. I love these Skybox Appreciation videos, really excited to see more in the future! Awesome as always, Austin :)

Really enjoying this series. I’m a game developer myself, and the importance of skyboxes (or I guess skyspheres now) and how they interact with the overall environment was never really something I thought heavily about.

The overcast rainy skybox of day 2 contrasts the blue blue sky of day 1 to show that the world actually changes along with the characters and the marching of time towards inevitable doom. It also grounds termina more because it has, in a sense, dynamic changing weather. It’s very cool.

I'm glad you've been enjoying these new series as much as we have. Also, I'd definitely be down for some longer videos, Austin!
