Another not blindingly obvious tip: When you are in demolition mode to for example remove belts and you want to quickly remove the belt segments of one path but not affect any other paths that are nearby and could possibly be hovered over by your mouse cursor, don't be afraid to hold the left mouse button and just swipe over the path you want to remove, because: Once you've clicked on one belt segment of a path to remove and keep holding the mouse button to hover over other segments, *it will only remove segments belonging to that path*. So if your mouse cursor crosses over segments belonging to different paths, it won't delete them. This lets you safely and quickly remove belt paths that for example go under other paths.

For the Deuterium fractionator loop losing efficiency the more fractionators you put on. Another good way to do it instead of going smaller loops, is merging more hydrogen on the line in intervals. I have a loop of 60 fractionators, and a 2nd hydrogen line splitting and merging into the loop every 10 fractionators. Same effect, different approach.

@@kkacpersky 1/100 is the chance to produce it. The consumption ratio of hydrogen to deuterium is indeed 1 to 1 and not 2 to 1 as in the colliders
@Darkendragon3 жыл бұрын
@@SkyeStorme I was just about the post the same idea, but you dont have to do it every so often, instead just insert a line every fractionator. and since its only taking 1 hydrogen every 100th pass, you dont need a fast line. the standard one should be good enough. so that every time it takes a hydrogen the secondary line will always put another hydrogen back in, thus you always have 30 hydrogen pass by per second no matter what. giving you the most efficient line. though you will have a lot of splitters, basically 1 for every fractionator, so there is that. so if you want it 100% efficient with each fractionator scanning 30 hydrogen per second. then you'd want this after every fractionator. but if you dont mind having less efficiency, then just do it every so often. the more you skip, the less efficient it gets, the more often you do it, the more efficient it becomes.
@Skellitor301_VA3 жыл бұрын
@@Darkendragon That's actually not true, while yes it's a 1% chance, that doesn't mean you'll go through 100 hydrogen and you'll get 1 deuterium. That 1% chance can happen any time hydrogen goes into the fractionator. The fast line is to increase the rate this chance happens, as Skye mentioned the fractionator processes this recipe based on the belt that's feeding it. That means the faster you put hydrogen into the machine the faster the recipe is used. Basically you do want to take the idea you have of using one fractionator, but you will want the fastest line going into that fractionator. Splitters work just as fast as the belts going into it as well though with hydrogen, you can just as easily achieve the same thing with tanks since they have 4 ports, so you can double the tanks as splitters. I was on the side of particle accelerators last video but after seeing the actual numbers it actually does make sense to use fractionators over the other method. Sure it's not 100% guaranteed but the chance is high for it to produce deuterium at a faster rate.

Hey Skye - here's a tip I haven't seen you cover yet. I recall in one of your live streams someone asked if it was possible to name things in DSP like it is in TF2, the response at the time was "No". I discovered this accidentally. Open up one of your Logistics towers and it will have a main title like "Planetary Logistics Station", now click your mouse on the Subtitle which defaults to something like "Local Station #xx", you can edit that to be whatever you want! It's just a vanity thing for now as there is no way to look up your towers and see a summary of what each of them is supplying or demanding - that would be a super useful addition to the game for those that use Logistics towers instead of conveyor buses. Safer way to do infinite transport - if you pick up an inventory full of raw materials, you can start production of a thing (the more complex the better) - this will take all the ingredients from your inventory. Pick up more, queue more production, repeat as many times as you like. Then fly home. As long as you get there before you produce more than your inventory can hold, you won't lose anything. Here is a tip: filling a belt mk1 form a storage takes exactly 4 sorters mk1 or 2 sorters mk2 filling a belt mk2 form storage takes exactly 8 sorters mk1 or 4 sorters mk2 filling a belt mk3 takes exactly 20 sorters mk1 or 10 sorters mk2. this is "important" when doing sushi belts. another tip: the sorter mk3 takes the least amount of energy when the stacking upgrades are used, without the stacking upgrade all sorters mk1, mk2 and mk3 use the same amount of energy per item delivered. In all the production lines with dedicated belts for all inputs and outputs its most efficient to use mk3 sorters with full stacking, yes even with a simple smelter they are not really "wasteful". this is only important if energy is a problem, which it shouldn't be for long.

It looks like this series might be discontinued, but one thing I learned that helped me out is that the sorters can go from one conveyor to another conveyor. You don't have to bridge them, you can just sort them over a gap of up to 3 spaces. Additionally, I was having trouble with priority coming out of a storage container. I wanted things coming out of it to go one way before another. I ended up using the sorters to bring the input line to the priority line before it even hit the storage. That made it so that the priority line filled up first without me needing to use a bulky splitter to handle priority.
@Arxeon.3 жыл бұрын
Something I do a lot that others may not know is that belts don't have to always be flat to work with a sorter. My example for this would be on an assembler line of items that require 4 inputs. On one side I'll have 3 "supply" belts at ground level running past the assemblers then have the 4th belt out raised 1 space up. I'd then place a 2 tile long belt ground level running in the gap between the assemblers coming from against (but not connected to) the 1st belt to the center line of the assemblers. At this point connect a sorter from the start of the short belt into the assembler. Next I would run a raised 2 tile long belt from (but not connected to) the raised 4th belt in line with each of the belts in between the assemblers and connect the to different height belts across the single tile gap. Then all that remains is to delete the belt tile that pokes past the ground level sorter and place a sorter on each of the belts leading away from the raised 4th belt. Doing it this way leaves room for power lines in between the assemblers and the "output" belt from the next line of assemblers can be run underneath the 4th raised belt to keep things nice and tight.

I don't think I've seen this one mentioned yet, but for those of you going interstellar, just a couple of tips: 1. As your starmap begins to fill up with names, sometimes when you warp, being able to read the distance marker on your crosshairs gets a little tricky - If you're aimed directly at your target, the display on the lower right of your mecha readout (opposite from the speed indicator) will give you the distance in a nice, easy to read big number. 2. If you don't mind spending a little time in interstellar space for recharge, don't feel like you have to limit yourself to whatever systems are in single-jump range. That's silly. Just bring enough fuel and warpers. [rant about RNG and inner-systems resource quantities tabled for NOW]. Of course, this works better if you have universe exploration fully upgraded (pick and choose your targets) but if you have an abundance of warpers/fuel and want to cowboy it up, go for it! IMO it's more fun that way. :P 3. In fact, the first chance you can get to gravity matrix, carry a few of those instead of graviton lenses and quantum processors. You can probably hang on to just a few and get quite far. ^_^

To effectively use fractionator loop, you gotta use the fastest belt too. It's obvious but i think Skye should've mention it too. Mk3 belt moves 30items/second, so the first fractionator actually produce deuterium at 30% per second instead of 1%, with decreased efficiency of the following fractionators. Thanks for the video too

If you happen to make another video maybe talk about hitting R to redraw the belts diagonally. It's really useful for going low to high or vice versa quickly. Thanks for the great little series. I learned a lot.

Putting the vertical splitters closer (2 above on each end, the skinnier ones). Place all the splinters you want before the drones can build them. Or run to 0 power and place them so they show in the green pending but the drones can't build then with no power. You can get the vertical ones one block closer on either side

Great tips! I feel that the stack tip might also be a bug that's patched out later (possible softlock if you don't have enough storage?), but that deuterium tip is amazing.

Did you know that you can take items from the conveyor belt by clicking the left mouse button on it and then clicking the icon of the resource from the conveyor panel that opens (holding left mouse button down gets multiply items). In addition you can place items on empty conveyor belts by dropping them from your inventory to the empty icon at the conveyor panel (constant holding left mouse button down places multiply items).

Another tip I just discovered is that if you have a miner on nodes and then you bury the nodes, the miner still works. This lets you set up miners and run belts over the resource if you're in a place where you need to grab the resource but have to have space for belts, etc.

@@ChaoticNeutralMatt -- True, I hope they leave this behavior in the game too, even though it's not "realistic". It's just so useful. But, as you say, it's still early on so it might get patched.

You can set up 1 machine stacked with sorters and a recipe and as long as the belts are there for the sorters to attach to you can click and drag an entire row of building

My "not blindingly obvious tip" is that they just added a mass-dismantle and mass-upgrade feature. When in delete mode ('x' key by default), hold shift to chain-delete a whole stack or line. This works with conveyor belts and (I think) stacked buildings. The new upgrade mode is accessed by pressing 'u'. In that mode, you can upgrade any building that has a higher level variant that takes up the same ground space, just by clicking it. It will upgrade it "in place", meaning the things it is holding stay put and don't go into your inventory. This is especially helpful for sorters and assemblers. If you hold 'shift' in upgrade mode, it will chain-upgrade all of the attached items that are identical. I think this only works with conveyor belts, and only within your build range, but super helpful nonetheless. This made upgrading my main bus from mk II sorters to mk III much simpler.

TIP: IF YOUR BELT IS GLING CRAZY ON A BEND. Bring the belt where you want the bend to start, then put a sorter on it, then put the bend in. It traps the belt in place. Helps when you're building by a fault line, or crazy north pole builds.

If you want a good tip: Specialize your planets. It makes it much easier to expand production lines as you need them (however big you think they need to be, they need to be 10x bigger), free power from dyson spheres is rather limited so it's better to have a system with multiple planets powered by a dyson sphere, and it makes logistics much easier. Gold chips can be made from just Iron, Silicon and Copper. Green engines are made from iron and copper only. Chemicals can be made infinitely easier from either acid ocean planets, or fire ice giants. Strange matter and Deuterium cell production become much easier when you have access to a gas giant, especially a deuterium/hydrogen one. Location matters. Advanced titanium alloy production becomes trivial on an acid ocean world. Dump energy-heavy industry on a 150% solar multiplier world.

@@frontrider3240 Everyone has a different playstyle and it is okay for there to be beneficial features in a game. Another tip: advanced resources matter. Fire ice is an excellent source of both hydrogen and graphene. This avoids the nasty acid production line. Spinoidal stalactites produce nanotubes, cutting out a lot of production steps. Organic crystal mining avoids large chemical plant setups (Avoids a plastic step and all the oil processing to feed it). Monopoles make particle container production trivial (no need to dedicate half a planet to green engines). Others like kimberlite and the fractal silicone are fairly useless (how the hell do you not overproduce energized graphite? and silicone is abundant!)

I saw a few of these, so not sure if you mentioned this one... just started playing the game... i was on another planet and ran out of resources.... i used your tip on aligning my solar cells with the equator, which is an awesome tip... i was short on transmission towers and solar arrays, so i alternated them.. solar cell - tower- solar cell - tower -solar cell, etc etc.. it allows you to extend much further. I found putting the solar cells in serial, it doesn't you don't cover as much distance but connecting it to the transmission tower, it takes increases the distance much further..

When building long conveyors It can be shorter to build conveyors towards the poles then East/West, (as opposed to east/west then north/south) as east/west is shorter nearer the poles.

My not blindingly obvious tip for Fractionator loop - don't make smaller ones, they are not space efficient (a lot more belts), instead put additional 3 feeding belts (both ends and both middles) to improve efficiency, limit space and headache from having too many loops. Also feed it from Planetary Logistics base, this way it's auto refilled and you can use the same base for picking up Deuterium!

Logistics towers can be used as large scale storage as well. Putting items in works as normal, but to take items out, right click +hold and use the slider to choose how many. Oh and logistic towers dont have to be powered, an unpowered tower will function as normal, and rely on other tower's drones for delivery.

Coming back at the filtered sorters tip. You can use Shift+Left click To COPY the whole sorter+Filter. (same as you did with the smelter) And then place said filtered sorters as long as the filter is valid. This is mostly a life saver on those machines that have recipes with Multiple outputs. Like turning oil into refined fuel and hydrogen. So. Place machine. Set recipe. Copy set machine over as many times you need. Place belts for outputs. Place AND filter sorters on ONE machine. Use shift+click to copy a filtered sorter. Place said filtered sorter without needing to worry about the filter. (just hook it up to the right belt ;P )

So I made a ring of mk III belt around 70deg N for all my "spare" H since I had enough for Red cubes. This forms a natural loop and had inputs at four separate parts.
