Now you've got a nice steady water level throughout the map, now could be a perfect time to start adding aquatic farming. Adding another two types of food into the diet of the beavers will improve their happiness and the few that are still working will start working harder. You will need a steady 1 tile deep pond that doesn't go dry nor does it get too deep and drowns the crops. And just as I was typing this Skye gets to the end of the video and confirms that is his plan.

Not to mention diversifying food means less of a hit to foodstocks during drought if the crops dry up.

I would say that pumping the water into the treehugger hill, sorrounding the settlement with a moat and then a waterfall that uses the hill slope (modified at your taste, like winding down or just going straight down) would be a more creative and interesting version of your waterfall idea.

I was thinking that maybe the "Tree Huggers" should have a small artificial lake at the top of their area. Let the lake overflow creating waterfalls that cascade down among the layers of trees. The water could drain into the valley to potentially be pumped back to the lake.

Definitely do the waterfall idea! One thing I think would be cool is to have tiered water farms. Something like your waterfall feeds water to your first farm, that one feeds water to the next farm, and that one to the next. Etc... Maybe 3 or 4 farms connected max. Anymore and it'll probably look too cluttered or risk the lower farms losing water during droughts. You could even put them at a level 3 to 4 terrain blocks apart so you have decent sized waterfalls between each farm.

I mean, that "confusing resevoir" is obviously* a biflow regulator. Two inlets, two outlets. It is fed by both the source and the system, and feeds into the system to maintain pressure and drains overflow into the "expansion tank" that is your five-chamber resevoir. *- may only be obvious if you are an HVAC tech or plumber.

The system looks very good. However, with that single block canal coming back and draining into the end reservoir, all of the reservoirs will have water in them much more often than necessary. If the canal went all the way down to the first reservoir, then the overflows into subsequent reservoirs would have better affect in reducing the surface area, especially if you have the first one pump out into the giga-reservoir.

An idea for the waterfall feature: Replicate the Giga Reservoir's drainage feature, but in a pyramid-style, so that the falls can fan out a little. And it doesn't need to be all that wide, either. Maybe just three layers. Idea is pictured below, with a " - " representing a terrain block, and a "O" representing the dams. Layer 1: - - O - - A centered dam as the initial spillway. Layer 2: - O - O - Layer 3: O - O - O What do you think, Skye? Picture?

So Skye, I know I haven't commented, but I've been watching this whole series. It's very entertaining. The new water system is great and loading and unloading the water from the front end was a brilliant move to minimize evaporation. I'm thinking about using in my own city. Though, I'm thinking maybe putting it in barrels, since I'm in update 3 and we have absolutely massive barrel capacity now. I do have one complaint though. By loading the overflow of the bottom tank into the last tank of the multi-overflow area, you're undoing the benefit of minimizing surface area. @30:55 "Have I perfected *this* system?" To that, I'd say no. Not quite. @17:00, only 2 days into the wet season, you've increased the surface area. If you moved that overflow reintroduction to the segmented system from the first tank instead, that last tank wouldn't have had surface area until all the others were full. I like the idea you had later about pumping it back into the top of the river toward the giga reservoir too. EDIT: I know you want to get on with the rest of it, but I think moving the channel to the first tank and reintroducing the water back through the gigatank would be crazy quick to accomplish.

@SkyeStorme I have a really cool idea for a potential new playthru after you are finished with this one. Use a custom map where its basically all water with a medium size island in the middle, and the island floods over time, and ur goal is to prevent the flooding and also primarily use wooden platforms for building to somewhat follow the theme of the "waterworld" movie. Ofcourse u use terraforming or draining areas to provide urself with more ground area for farming and woodcutting. But rest of the buildings should be restricted to wooden platforms. I feel like it could be a really fun challenge aswell as a really interesting look to the city by having it look like an artificial island suspended above water by the wooden platforms.

Idea #1: level up the end of the river valley with the stream, fill it up with dirt, and maybe do some tree or vegetable farming. Idea #2: Divert a channel from the backup reservoir, and fill up the big pot hole with water in order to make an entertainment center for the beavers there, placing some pools all around. Could be fun, don't you think?

For your sanity, I understand not messing with what you've got much more, but I do like the 1-wide channel from the first backup reservoir into the main reservoir. Minimizing evaporation is the name of the game, and having multiple reservoirs that go up and down is less ideal. Ideally, only one cell of the backup reservoirs ever goes up or down at once, and the Giga reservoir, the main public water, and the little shock-absorber reservoir down at the end of the moat stay as steady as possible. I think the plan you had, to pump from that first backup cell back into the giga reservoir, is very solid. Otherwise, I can only agree with Mr. Hlavacek below: "Best Timberborn content on the platform". Seriously considering spending some Christmas money on my own copy of the game. Top stuff keep it up!

I like the center tile going into the giga idea, you can also reroute the pump at the other end into the giga as well, to skip the backups entirely and save evaporation there too

Have you looked into the water trigger mods? They allow you to set floodgate heights and pump activation based on stream gauge values, which would really simplify your setup. To increase the depth of your reservoirs, you can use the metal floodgates mod. And the supertall stream gauge. You can also use vertical power shafts to minimise the footprint of your power network.

Hiya skye, i'm really enjoying the series and i love all your attention for details suggestion from my side for the threehuggers. maybe you could pump up the water from the river to the highest platform and lead the water down via small 1-tile wide streams and 1 step deep streams and waterfalls back in the main river (like the "Shimanto river valley" in Japan in combination with the krka waterfalls in Kroatia) . You see those smallwaterstreams quite often in forests, and in combination with that you can maybe bring one or more streams to the new big waterfall. and have the waterfall to the side instead of at the end of the map, so you don't need to put those big pumps in for only the waterfall
@gijsiedebom

How about a big waterfall off the side of the cliff where you'll build the terraced tree farms instead? You'll have to build irrigation canals there either way and then you can loop it back into the river from there.

You could have added a long thin reservoir to act as a header-tank. The individual reservoirs pump into this header tank directly and the header tank pumps into the giga-reservoir. Removing the need to pump into each reservoir in sequence. This would require some manual control or the pumps in order to empty each res in turn, at least until logic or water pressure switches are introduced into the game. At 22:43 you can see the problem, the 5th reservoir is almost full yet the water would have to be pumped through the empty 4th reservoir to be used. Or just re-direct the input from the 5th reservoir to the first. Reverse the flow from the output

Annnnnnndddd turn the Christmas islands into a water park for Bevier kids ... andddddd move the backup system close to where the water is born? Annnnddd use the back of the perpetual motor (windmill holes) as water storage (just for visual effect) Andddddd reverse the polarization of the Geigercounter!!! Have a nice day!

Instead of making a waterfall at the edge of the map since you are going to be pumping the water up to the cliffs for the treehuggers to use at the very top of that mountain it might look really nice to have the waterfall coming off the front of the cliffs as the runoff for the irrigation into a small pond at the bottom of it that then just runs back into the river in front of the whole thing. That way the beavers can get the enjoyment of living on a waterfall and can shower under it and swim in the pond it feeds. Like true nature loving treehuggers.

Love your vids! What about two enclosed water channels/pipes from the top of Beaver Castle to the water features on the giga reservoir so they continuously flow? Of course, would still need to allow overflow from the giga reservoir to access the water features. Maybe, adding the extra pump from the five reservoirs to the giga reservoir will raise the giga causing the features to flow more without the need for channels? I'm sure you've already considered this. Best Timberborn map, thanks for the content!

It seems to me, that the backup reservoir is filled before the overflow ditch/giga reservoir. That's because they both have 0.75 flood gates, and the overflow reservoir is earlier in the chain. 2 solutions would be to 1) Change the expected depth in the canal to 0.5, by using dams in the overflow ditch. Or 2) Move the overflow reservoir next to Santa. Under the current system, in extreme circumstance, the overflow reservoir will begin to dump water off the map, with the giga reservoir being half empty.

Your lodging can be improved and I figured out how: 1. Allocate a LOT of space PER triple lodge, you're going to have a campfire, rooftop terrace, large monument, 2 medium monuments, 2 small monuments, 2 shrines, 2 beaver statues, a lido, a temple and 2 showers for every triple lodge. 2. Create the temple 1st and 2 under path shaft connections either side of it, these are to connect to the large monument which will go directly behind it on platforms, it will face the opposite direction to the temple. 3. Create your triple lodge directly in front of the large monument facing the same direction, use the 2 paths you created to reach it's front. 4. Create your rooftop terrace directly in front of the lodge on platforms with it's entrance facing the lodge. 5. Create stairs back down to the ground and create a campfire directly behind the rooftop terrace. 6. Either side of the campfire stick your shrines, alternatively stick the shrines behind it with a bush between them (that one I only just thought of), I stuck them on the sides with a bush behind them and then the beaver statues behind those, when doing the bush between you can just shove the statues on the sides of the shrines instead or facing them on the other side of the path... actually that last one sounds better for linking up the lido and showers which will come at the end of this strip. That's the best I've thought of thus far

I think they need to make a map seed generator for timberborn, this would make the game more interesting imo, as it would bring more possibilities and hardships, and a new faction. I think this game has so much more potential its great as it is, but it can be way better. I love the plans to take over the map tho, each district being unique to its own resource they provide. Think I'm gonna use that tactic on mine now. Need a warehousing colony where all the districts ship their goods to and then they distribute the goods to the districts evenly. Name it padtail logistics lol! Good show sky.. keep it up.

I believe that You can do simple optimization to Your system. Instead of adding second pump to from reservoir to mega tank You can simply redirect pump You already have to mega tank, and redirect prevention overflow pumps (double set of 3) to first reservoir. This way You will lose water only when all reservoirs are full. Right now I believe that there is a chance that one pump from last reservoir can be overtaken by set of three, and You can lose water before all tanks are filled.

Victorian age Beavers knew how to maintain water levels building canals... great to see the tech passed on to modern day beaver folk!

I know you're ready to move on, but i would love to see the backup water system dumping into the giga reservoir to allow your overflow waterfalls to be active more often! It's such a neat feature that we rarely get to see active.

In fact. With your wild quantity of overflow prevention pumps everywhere I have faith you could have the waterfalls flowing nearly 24/7 with 'minimal' modifications!

I'm pretty sure the three pumps that bring the water back to the lower reservoir should discharge to the first cube not to the last. Like when the drought season began again there could have been only four cubes with water instead of five. You could reduce evaporation even more!!

In the water buffer system the either the recirculating channel needs to be supplied to the earlier reservoir of more pups should be pumping the later than the first one so that you minimize the surface areas
