Al Jazeera covered this a couple of years ago in Cambodia covering the issue in Sihanoukville. It's been common knowledge to everyone including expats. Warnings about these jobs are also common, but people see the jobs advertised on Facebook for one example and are easily duped by the 'salary' that's offered. They usually ask for people from India, Vietnam, Thailand and Philippines but ask they speak good English yet never ask for native English speakers to apply.

I call to people in america to see if they are interested in selling their property. my job is to get their asking price, details or current condition of the house like any major repairs need to be done and confirm the beds/bath etc by using zillow. And send the details to the company. If they see the price is right for investment. They buy the property. Am i a scammer? Could anyone tell me? If then i will leave the job. It was banned in Cambodia and the government asked the Chinese government to make the producer give a public statement saying it is a total work of fiction. Also, people rescued from these compounds are always forced by police/government to retract their accounts and then say they only said these things to get free rides back to their own country
