It is a calculated quess. Because of engine information being broadcast we know roughly where the aircraft crashed, but it is still a big area to search. It is not a new company, it searched an area off Western Australia before.

It seems the most likely explanation. There were some complicated flight manoeuvres when it first went off its planned path and at the end of the flight it didn't simply run out of fuel and drop out of the sky. Someone deliberately landed on the sea, so there was minimal wreckage on the surface of the ocean.

Transmissions of engine data indicated that the plane flew south, not west, before going into the sea somewhere to the west of the Australian coast. Diego Garcia is a very active base mainly used by the American Air Force and Navy, although there is a small contingent of British military personnel there too, as it in theory is a British Territory. Strangers are rarely allowed to visit and a civilian airliner landing with all its passengers aboard would scarcely go unnoticed by all the service personnel serving there. The rumour was just someone's conspiracy theory and complete rubbish.
