i had the great pleasure to meet Jay when he invited military members to a special thanksgiving special of the tonight show. He had some of his cars in the parking lot and personally gave us a tour of the cars. Then him and a few of the celeb guests served us Thanksgiving dinner and we all ate a fine meal. He stuck around to take pictures and talk to everyone. He is one of the most humble and genuine celebs I've met. I hope nothing but the best for him and his wife in the years to come.

He was relaxed , down to earth, and exactly how he appears here and for 30 years in the tonight show. He gave up half his salary so no on on his show lost their job. I miss him. I wish him strength to handle his wifes disease .

I just love Jay Leno. I think he was a tremendous Tonight Show host, very funny. Nobody talks about how difficult it was to follow Carson, that had to be difficult, perhaps terrifying. I’m also a big fan of his car collection and show. And clearly the last thing he wants to talk about is money or the worth of his collection, a humble man. Thanks for the memories, Jay! (Bob Hope singing!!!). Great interview Piers.

Johnny was rooting for David Letterman. So was I. Jay Leno was too Vegas, too crude, too vulgar. Johnny was funny, and he stayed on the High Road. Jay was a slob, first cousin to Buddy Hackett. Jay has more going on in his home life than hub caps and dice.

William Goldman tells a story about a movie he'd written and he wanted Paul newman to play the lead. This was near the end of newman's career at this stage. So Newman agrees to the the movie, but he says to Goldman, "Dont let 'em low ball me Bill". And Goldman assured Paul newman that the studio executives wouldnt try a thing on such a legend as Paul Newman. Only they did. They disrespected him by offering him a pittance for the movie and in the end Newman declined the role because of this. It just goes to show that no matter who you are, no matter how successful you've been in the past, theres always someone waiting to throw you under a bus.

Nobody called him a monster. Piers has to mention that he’s been on the show several times, of course. Taking the timeslot before Conan show, created a situation where Conan really didn’t have a chance to build his own tonight show. Then moving back into the Tonight Show seemed, to some, to be a selfish decision, one without concern for Conan. But I suppose that’s Hollywood
