SKYRAIDER - AD-4 in War Thunder feat. M41 Walker Bulldog - OddBawZ

The AD-4 in War Thunder is a plane I have neglected to play for a long time. Finally, I was convinced to play it and I've already fallen in love.

It's fast, has great control and authority. It even turns very well at stall speeds and can keep up with some fighters. The guns are very potent and do well against both air and ground.
The AD-4 Skyraider has a party piece... and that's demolishing enemy ground units with mighty mouse rockets. These rockets are high penetrating, high velocity and flat firing. They're easy to lead once you've had some practice and they can chomp through even the heaviest of armour.
Getting us into the sky is the M41 Walker Bulldog. An excellent and very capable light tank for the US tech tree.

The M41 is a nasty tank; short reload, lots of penetration and speed. If it had a Stabilizer it would be 7.0

Agreed! One of my favorites in the game. Huge tip I’ve found with it is sticking in cruise control 2 or using manual shifting to stay in 3rd gear. If I can find a hill to get the revs up in 4th you can stay there but it just doesn’t have the power coming out of 3rd, you end up going slower in 4th than just staying in 3rd otherwise, especially if you’re doing any turning. It’s a small advantage but it makes a big difference mobility wise.

This airplane is a beast in air simulator. You just have to watch out for stalls by being gentle and playing with flaps. You can take so much ground targets and still defend yourself easily against enemy fighters. However, when a fighter comes down on you, you usually have only one opportunity. The next move is to run away. For simulator players, keep engine at 90% when doing CAS. You'll stay between 350 - 450km/h which gives you enough energy to position if an enemy fighter attacks you. On a head-on, a salvo of rockets often makes quick work of the enemy.

AD-4s were used as late as the early 1980s. They used them in Vietnam quite a bit for cas even when they had more modern options.

I dont know if it's just the british APDS but you can shoot through the frontal plate of a panther pretty easily if youre directly ahead of them. I find it best to kill the gunner, reload, then shoot the drive area. If the gunner comes back usually that shot (if aimed well) can kill the driver and the gunner again.

I use the AP in my Bulldog more than the sabot rounds more often than not. Usually when I’m at BR I’ll use AP as primary shell choice and use the sabot when up-BR’d as primary shell choice

One of the most if not thee frustrating things for me about ground forces is the Axis can often fly above and strafe the allies spawn zones, due to our lacklustre SPAA. Sometimes we have Russia on our side but more often not, whilst the Axis have laser beams of death with a range of almost half the map. Sure we have turret mounted 50 cals, but the they also have so many U.S tanks in their teams so they have them too.

Rocket CAS is in my opinion the best CAS in game. It is not as braindead to use as gun CAS where you literally only point and left click and has much higher potential than bomb CAS which usually only get 2 drops. Most rockets take atleast some amount of skill to aim and if you get comfortable with it, you can get amazing games where you get like 5 to 8 tank kills with one payload. Also it's hella satisfying to watch :)

also im really into bombing in tank battles and ive wanted to switch from using german 1ks to smaller bombs that i can drop more of, i noticed that the 50kg bombs say they pen 79mm but i find it hard to believe, what bombers do you guys like that have 250 or 500 bombs?
