The theory that Titus Mede called the hit on himself is the hill I will make my stand on. Mede finds out that some people want him removed, and he uses a spy to help them (Motierre's bodyguard), then when you go to kill him, he asks one favor. He asks you to kill Motierre, this removes a disloyal backstabber. Why? Mede isn't a Septim, he doesn't have the power of the dragonblood like they did. The Empire is falling apart, and the Thalmor are preparing for another round, the Empire, and humanity is effectively finished. Tiber Septim, in his lifetime, was Dragonborn...he is worshipped by the Stormcloaks as Talos, and the dragonblood is proof of Akatosh's favor. Mede has heard that a new Dragonborn has emerged in Skyrim, and so...he helps finance and encourage those calling for his assassination, they perform the ritual and an assassin shows up to kill the Emperor. And once Emperor Titus Mede is out of the way, then the throne is clear for someone who can reunite the rest of the empire and Skyrim against the Thalmor. Someone blessed by both Akatosh and Talos could unite the Empire again, the Dovahkiin could do it.
@MLPDethDealr324 жыл бұрын
i had the same thought. He even tells you "I sense in you a certain... ambition." I actually held the thought that he was also one of the ones behind the " letters from a friend". @ArtForSwans4 жыл бұрын
Just like the legacy of the Hero of Kvatch is that they became Sheogorath, it's likely we might hear stories of an unnamed Dragonborn taking the throne and beating back the Thalmor in Elder Scrolls 6.
@n1lls_4 жыл бұрын
I don't think Mede knew who was the dragonborn
@thinkwithurdipstick4 жыл бұрын
I’d go further to say that the Emperor put Motierre up to it. When you eventually say you’re going to kill him per Mede’s final request, he says “But we had a deal!” He could be talking about his deal with the brotherhood, but what if he made a deal with Mede to contract the assassination? It definitely makes a lot of sense. Mede wants the empire to survive and he’s come to the conclusion that it cannot happen with him on the throne, he can’t do it. But maybe if the emperor is assassinated in some nefarious plot, the people might rally behind a new younger emperor, effectively making a martyr out of the unpopular and weak Mede. And if he came to that conclusion, he’d need somebody to help him as he would need someone to start the contract, so why not someone close to him, say a member of the elder council that was discreet and loyal to the empire, willing to do what needed to be done to see it survive? Then he’d need to make sure he dealt with any loose ends to ensure the truth of it never gets out, which would mean killing Motierre.

Well, the bones are also at a point, in which vicinity two named dragons can explode out of the ice and fight you. I assume the bones are from their victims. Voskaarum and Naaslaarum are two revered dragons and I'd assume they would have eaten people along the way. The satchel there quite honestly doesn't mean much, since some of the bones could be fresher and Bathesda also could have just been lazy in their choice of container. And since we dont know how long those two dragons were under the ice, those bones just as well could have been from the ancient snow elves eaten by those two. In the end though, it all boils down to: Why make it a mystery if the solution is so obviously there.

And what is more clever than bribing/tricking a dragon into becoming your prisoner, and using cunning to solidify your rule? Also, remember that Shor is Lorkhan, and there's a darn good reason why he's viewed as a trickster god by nearly all the pantheons, regardless of if they deify or villify him. And that cunning is often shared by nearly all those who are considered to be Shezzarine. Olaf made it into Sovngarde for his cleverness and cunning, and the bard made it in for his determination and rebellious grit (fitting, as Lorkhan is the Rebel of his respect Enantiomorph)
@EstebanBrenesV5 жыл бұрын
@@pathfindersavant3988 Reading too much into it, often the simplest reason is the right one, olaf did mae his deeds yet they seems almost imposibble and shady for svaknir so he dint buy it, olaf didnt felt he had to prove himself to a bard so he didnt listen, both had their versions of the story and continued to antagonize each other for a while yet olaf respecteds svaknir, but remmeber politic is no a one mans job so probably an advisor of olaf set up a trap for svaknir to take is work and him out forever, and made warrior pose as olaf(that explains the draugr) svaknir dies strongly believing he did the good thing olaf lives respecting svaknir and ied within that believe so half of each story is true, also even with the lorkhan side of things, you still have to demand your entrance with a deed, for example as a player if you completed the thief guild you stillcan enter by right of pillage as a nightingale for nocturnal yet you have to have such right, tricking a town might be the way olaf might have entered yet he says svaknir is also invited to the hall if he werent lost, and on that regard writng a poem doesnt seem very heroic or cunning unless he lied which doesnt add up, so once again the simple explanation is the most pausible, they both believed they were right both deeds happened yet they werent are of the others perpesctive that much so it was a simple misunderstanding

You have just returned from Sovngarde. You’ve defeated Alduin, for now, anyway. You are hailed as a hero among the honored dead, and they say someone will come to your aid if you call. You return to the Throat of the World. The dragon you once captured pledges loyalty to you and says he will come when you call. You’ve saved the world (for now) and saved the souls in Sovngarde. You go to Dragonreach to tell the Jarl it is done. What is done? No dialogue. No one seems to know or care about what you just accomplished, in spite of the fact there was a dragon captured there not long ago. One random Whiterun guard says the word is spreading and the people are grateful. The next says “Let me guess, someone stole your sweet roll” and the next accuses you of being a sneak thief. Nazeem makes the comment about the Cloud District. It’s enough to make a hero drink herself into Oblivion ... but the last time that happened, things got really messy.

Just to add the mystery of Olaf and Svaknir, during the quest where you're supposed to capture Odahviing in Dragonsreach, you can ask Parthurnaax for ideas on how to do it. He suggests using Dragonsreach, and he's got a dialogue line where he specifically talks about visiting Numinex while he was trapped and how he went so crazy he forgot his own name. Assuming Parthurnaax isn't lying, the trapping bit is true, but considering that Parthurnaax was able to visit him (and I'm not sure how a dragon could do that without being seen), it suggests that perhaps the bribing (or maybe tricking) bit is also true. It does imply that Olaf wasn't some great "defeator of dragons" in the typical sense, but maybe he was more cunning? Kind of a low move just to make a show, but still.

Ysolda's other story about how the tree may have come to be is interesting too. If the tree is formed from a crater created by a piece of Red Mountain's eruption, it could have ties to Lorkhan, since Red Mountain formed around where his heart landed. And that wouldn't be the first time a drug-like substance like the sap has ties to Lorkhan, since moon-sugar is believed by the Khajiit to be crystallized moonlight, and the moons are believed (at least in other religions) to be the dead remains of Lorkhan's body.

The mystery of Olaf One Eye and Svaknir is probably like most "historical facts" that are delivered down the generations until written down. It gets twisted so hard that it becomes a whole new story. Perhaps Svaknir was exposing Olaf on something entirely else and the copy we are set to retrieve, isn't actually the real poem by Svaknir, but the twisted, written down story instead and all of Skyrim just has come to view that as the true story. The skeleton pile at the bottom of the lake in the Forgotten Vale, is most likely snow elves. Snow elves would go through the path to Auri-El to show the strenght of their faith in him. Some would turn back mid way and be greeted with disgust and social isolation for the rest of their lives, while others would press on. Some would make it, some would not. I believe this pile is of those who would not make it. One of the books of ancient falmer text can be translated via Mr. Gro-Shub at the mages college, which will detail this. On Motierre's motivations I present a more obvious theory to have the emperor assasinated: The Aldmeri Dominion. They aren't exactly the most honest folks and will keep secrets away from everyone not in on the plots, as we see when going through with Diplomatic Immunity (the Esbern, Delphine and Ulfric Stormcloak books). Stalhrim is probably like the first snow that fell on the Throat of the World. Remember the White Phial quest? The phial is supposedly made out of magic snow that never melts. Considering that snow is just tiny ice crystals, it is entirely likely that Stalhrim is "just" really large deposits of magical snow/ice. But that snow and ice is - as far as I remember - connected to some godly stuff. Got no answers for the sleeping tree, but I too believe it to be a hist tree. It's the most likely candidate and if I remember correctly, there are other, more cannon theories on how such a tree got to Skyrim. It's probably relatively new. I mean, it's not gotten there in the merethic era. So maybe it came with an argonian at some point? Idk, I'm just guessing.

Here is my theory: I think stahlrim is a fossilized tree sap from a species of giant tree that went extinct long ago. Perhaps during the first era when the ancient nords were around Skyrim, there was still one giant tree left somewhere on that island. Maybe they harvested the sap from it and poured it on their dead in order to preserve them in that state for eternity. There is an similar material in our reality that used to be the sap of ancient giant trees - quartz crystal.

I'd always imagined stalhrim was virtually impossible to temper what with it being ice

I think that Stalhrim has concessions both to the All-Father Stone littering the Island, but also a strong relation to soul gems. We know Soul Gems occur naturally, sort of, we also know that the old Nords encase the dead in ice as burial. So my theory is the All-Father Stones give the ice latent magical properties, but due or because of these properties the ice stats to 'leech', for lack of a better term, the soul of the person that's been encased. Thus that's how Stalhrim is made. As far as we know, Stalhrim only pops up around on Solsthiem so I really think that the factors line up, I also might be able to explain how Stalhrim veins replace themselves instead of just game mechanics. Stalhrim feeds of magic from the All-father stones growing and replenish itself. Not really necessary but it's a nice little touch. Please respond Nate I really would like to hear your thoughts or anybody else for that matter.

Not bad. Think you’re onto something there. Also consider the parallels with Aetherium. It’s another very rare, durable, icy blue material that’s extremely difficult to melt or work with (the Dwemer had a whole war over the *one* forge that could actually use the stuff) with powerful innate magic properties. I forget the exact details, but off the top of my head, it’s at least heavily implied that Aetherium is strongly related to soul gems and, possibly through the use of the Aetherium Forge, the Heart of Lorkhan. Basically I think Aetherium was like ‘magically receptive’ similar to soul gems, and the Aetherium Forge was powered by an underground vein of magma connected to Red Mountain/The Heart of Lorkhan, and through the Forge, the Aetherium sort of ‘soaked up’ some of the magical ‘essence’ of the Heart of Lorkhan- similar to Stalhrim ‘leeching’ power from the souls of the encased dead. I don’t remember the ‘All-Father Stone’, but based on the name alone, it seems extremely likely that it’s related to the Heart of Lorkhan. So, there’s that. Hmm... Deepest Lore... Deepest *Ore* rather. Ha. 👍

The answer to the stalhrim question, I think, lies in looking at things loosely connected to it. I believe morrowind states that the ancient nords used it quite extensively for burial, not just in solstheim. That it's creation was based around "unknowable magics" and used "the life of the land" in the enchanting of it. If we remember that the ancient nords would have worshipped atmoran deities, and that the skaal are essentially the only remaining people who do so, the "All-maker" is likely somehow the source. If we look at the "All-Maker" and also go fucking insane reading in to michael kirkbride's writing (which, when stalhrim was conceptualized he was still on the team) then we know that the all-maker is referred to as "The river that all life flows from and back in to." This, if looked at literally, makes it possibly the only legitimate deity in the setting since it's likely the God-Head that led to the creation of the dream sleeve. The thing that you realize the existence of, that either makes you zero sum or achieve CHIM. Yeah. Stick with me here. Knowing these things, that stalhrim was made from "unknowable magic," created from the "life of the land" and that the "life of the land" stems from and flows to the All-Maker, then we COULD deduce that stalhrim is actually the result of ritualized CHIM. Which to me is awesome, and it's the theory I wanna stick with.

"An Honest Enemy" It's not referring to the Bard being honest but the fact that the bard didn't hide his opinion, nor change it just because he got in trouble for it. The bard was honest in his actions against the king, so he was an enemy who rather than dwelling in the dark, or cowering when things got tough, continued to face his actions and stay steadfast in his judgments. His forthright actions were something to respect. I give Skyrim a big thumbs up for putting that in there, as it IS an actual thing from several ancient cultures.
