Skyrim Battles - The College of Winterhold vs. The Ebony Warrior, Karstaag, and Charstaag

I've gotten requests to put the Ebony Warrior against a whole guild. I picked the College of Winterhold because that's easily my favorite, plus some of their members are really good.
Since that's a rather fast round, I also added Karstaag and Charstaag (my modded fire version of Karstaag). It makes for a good comparison between strengths and weaknesses. Charstaag's stomp-induced firestorm is absolutely lethal here, doing high damage against many of his opponents. This is one reason why he does better here than Karstaag. The firestorm damage is actually lower than Karstaag's blizzard damage, but the firstorm happens instantly, giving the mages no time to heal unlike with the blizzard's damage over time.
Another reason why Charstaag has an easier time than Karstaag here is that the College has multiple strong fire mages (especially Savos, but Mirabelle is good too), while those are totally lost against Charstaag's fire immunity, and there are not many frost mages to make up for it.
Charstaag's weakness to frost and slow effects is noticable here, putting him into a dangerous situation of troubling to keep up with the swift mages dodging his attacks. The ice storms are remarkably effective against him, since they do increased damage, slow him down, and stop his healing for a while (usually longer than spells like fireball, because of the lingering frost effect on the ground).

The College is quite powerful when they are together, and in a small room it can be dangerous for one or multiple enemies

Holy shit the college did Better than I expected !!! I’m very impressed !!! They destroyed the ebony warrior and karstaag Then charstaag joins in and that ends the story… But that huge fire resistance says a lot that charstaag has !!! Most of the heavy hitters in the college are fire based, so they can't do anything about Charstaag. Only two semi-competent frost mages.

The College did better than I expected. That being said, The Ebony Warrior's loss is understandable as we've seen him struggle with multiple mage enemies before, especially if he struggles to close the distance to heal

Ebony warrior is so particular OP in higher difficulties because of healing. Shock mages= no healing spells.

I was honestly surprised how quickly he went down, with all his resistances and many of the College members not being powerful mages. But the sum was too much for him, especially when he can't heal. Plus the Frost Atronach's stagger at first really bought them some time

Never thought Savos Aren knew the spell "These Hands" when he fought Charstaag. Awesome battle! Did you run into any issues while making it ? Because these are a lot of NPCs

One might say it's a useful spell because it doesn't rely on magicka! 😆 Thank you! 🥳 Oh yeah, lots of issues. The NPCs were working fine for the most part, but with so many at once, scripts can get delayed, such as Karstaag's blizzard not triggering in time with his stop. I also had to remove the central focus point for more space, and edit the navmesh so NPCs would work on the "new" ground properly. The visibility is kinda bad in this video, with all the spells overilluminating the center sometimes, and Karstaag/Charstaag not being visible well. It was also pretty difficult to capture things behind the pillars without missing important kills. Overall, a rather complex episode, but I like how it turned out!

It would be cool to have a mod that lets you fight alongside Ebony Warrior or Karstaag against a huge mob of enemies. Maybe where you can load a character and then hit a button to spawn them. Have a mage character in the College and the Winterhold gets invaded by the Ebony warrior and bandit mercenaries.

Unfortunately this is the only Skyrim battle video ever that I knew the Ebony Warrior was gonna lose, I expected him to survive a little longer but, I mean, I know how freaking OP the Ebony Warrior is but, putting him against an entire faction of powerful mages, even he wouldn't be able to beat all of them at the same time, it was also nice seeing Charstaag again, Great Video!

Hi! Thanks a lot! 😁 Yes: Click on them with the console and use the command "setav aggression 3". This will make them hostile towards everyone, including their allies. Note that they will also attack you then, so be sure to hide somewhere first. 😅 As a little side note: It can be enough to only make one of those NPCs aggressive this way, but it can affect their AI a little so I recommend using the command on both to keep things fair. Just get their IDs from the Wikis and use other console commands.

Basically what thatskeletordude5271 says. 😄 To spawn an NPC, you can use the command "player.placeatme", followed by their Base ID. You can deactivate the global AI by using "tai" and "tdetect". To make an NPC hostile to everyone else, click on them with the console and use "setav aggression 3". This only scratches the surface, as things can get very complex, but I hope it gets you started 😄

Volkihar vampires are different because many of them have no level cap. Otherwise most of them have no relevant perks or even great skills. They seems so powerful particular in patpauls videos because the uncapped npcs are level 252 and also vampiric drain is completely OP on legendary

How do these battles with NPC armies play out? Do they often have the same outcome due to their numbers, or do the battles have to be done over a lot of times due to the AI not always corresponding, with a couple of enemies messing it up?

Good question! This one was less chaotic than I expected. The Ebony Warrior never even got close to winning. With Karstaag, if Savos and/or Mirabelle die early, it's pretty much over for the mages. Most of them are really weak, and a few die within a few seconds from Karstaag's frost cloak already. The Charstaag fight is somewhat similar, just with the frost mages being important instead. The fire mages get close to him first so the frost mages can stay back and put pressure on Charstaag for a while. Overall, I've had more problems with the location than the fights themselves.

Ew didn't kill many mages since they surrounded him. But I'm glad Karstaag is defeated, but with three mage or two remaining o.o For Charstaag, I think it's due to his fire damage, and from the fight, three meters away from him, they all took fire damage o.o 🔥 Impressive !

He died surprisingly early! I honestly was expecting Karstaag to still win this 😂 His flame cloak has the exact same range as Karstaag's frost cloak, although the firestorm is nasty because it does instant damage. Plus there aren't many frost mages in the College 😄 Thank you! 🥳

Well, the Ebony warrior, he is weak against magical attacks, more so than physical and most of the mages at the college do high powered magical attacks take for instance if the Ebony warrior was surrounded and blasted with incinerate from all angles, his health bar would go down pretty fast

The Ebony warriors got a resistance to shock though and other magical attacks. I don’t think he’s got a resistance to fire though and the only reason why he’s got a resistance to physical and other magical attacks besides fire is the gear he’s wearing.

It's partly true, but I'll add a few things. 😅 The Ebony Warrior has a total of 60% shock and frost resistance, and also 60% fire as long as he has his shield equipped. I'm farily sure Savos is the only one here who uses Incinerate at all, but the combined damage from all mages, especially the AoE, was too much for him. The shock damage also kept his magicka down so he couldn't heal. He's normally very hard to finish off, but here, it was no problem

Modded creatures are common in Skyrim, and if they are well made, I don't see a reason not to use them. I've spent a lot of time on my own one, and people liked it. If anything, see it as a bonus for a video that would only include the Ebony Warrior and Karstaag otherwise 🤷
