Why, to be part of the events you are living in game, to learn the lore of the land you roam, to get a deeper sense of what's going on and the background behind every story you hear, every people you encounter. Because its an integral part of a well crafted RPG. And lastly, because someone exerted their wits to write something interesting to be put as a complement of the game. For me, that's it.
