The new fixes list, as I read it: • controller fixes for consoles that mean nothing to me • various creation club fixes that mean nothing to me • fixes for PS5 creation club issues that mean nothing to me • fixes for Xbox creation club issues that mean nothing to me • GoG version: actually good and important fixes especially re: saves • several trivial fixes A whole lot of "fixes" for parts of the software that doesn't affect my play on GoG 1.6.659 at all. Glad I don't have to worry about Steam's auto updates any more. My install stays as I left it: WORKING.

Get the Gog version, also you can get an additional mod to rollback to any previous versions depending your modlist you want use in you playtrough. Play offline if you want, no club, feel free !

these updates believe it or not are more malicious than you might realize, they are typically released to constantly F with the 3rd party mod developers so people are more likely to get fed up with the amount of A: waiting for mod updating to catch up and B: having to fix/update said mods in hopes people just cave and go to the creation club which somehow always seems to be updated with the update.....odd....

So no online requirements, fix version, and i can set-up different mod-list for different versions if i want so. I've yet to encounter a single mod good enough to be worth moving on from 1.5.97. All the major mods like Skywind, Skyblivion, Beyond Skyrim are all using older stable versions too. I know for a fact that over at odyssey of the dragonborn we are still using the old CK, as they somehow managed to brick the old CK with the new updates too.

Thankfully I have a 1.5.97 version from fall that I had auto updates disabled & set the appid to read only. Now I just gotta pray I never have to validate local files

@@Angelfyre.You may need "Backported Extended ESL Support" mod. They raised the file size for ESL mods in a recent update, and some newer mod take advantage of that. Trying to load those mods without that ESL support will cause an immediate crash.

Hi, the first week after the update in December I had a lot of trial and error to get my game back to running. (1.59.7) I finally found the solution, but since then CK gives me still some headache. So I downloaded Skyrim SE again (Have stored it as Backup-Files since then) and downgraded it with BOB (Best of both) downgrade patcher. Then I installed BEES (Backported Extended ESL Support) with some other cucial mods, got the newest SKSE and USSEP. For BEES has to load in starting a game!, I now only can start Skyrim with MO Modorganizer or Vortex, not directly from SKSE in Skyrim Main Folder. Little by little I then installed all my other mods and tested, if Skyrim still is starting and running. This took a while, but it worked. Hope you find this Info useful. To prevent your game from further updates, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps and set appmanifest_489830 in Properties to "Read only". Also go into your Steam library, select Skyrim and therfor its properties and set Updates to only executed, when next time starting via Steam. Needless to say, you should then never start Skyrim via Steam again. The update is then shown as "pending". In my case forever. :)

After the last update I made the decision to revert to 1.6.640. It was a huge pain to rollback all of those DLL related mods, especially since some 1.6.640 versions of those mods are no longer readily available, but I got everything working fine. I should be able to avoid any future headaches with new updates by just refusing to get the update (or overwriting the files again).

@@danielkjm I reverted back to 1.6.640 and was basically able to rebuild my full mod list again with pretty much all of the mods working. You might want to check in old files for some mods as that's what I had to do to find the correct versions.

I am done with Bethesda's updates. Too many great mods broken and whose authors have moved on. The changes which Bethesda are making are just not worth it. If they really want to improve the game, incorporate the engine fixes, the USSEP, the address lib, the SKSE... and the best features of the most popular mods no longer supported by their authors. The heavy lifting has already been done by the mod authors.

.Net Script Framework and No Grass in Objects are not the only mods that 1.6.640 doesn't support. Some additional mods not supported on the 1.6+ versions of Skyrim include Combat Pathing Revolution and any mod made by maxsu. Sure his awesome SCAR mod is patched for AE by someone else, but a lot of his other mods are not. That said, if someone could let me know what the advantages are of using 1.6.640 over 1.5.97, besides the more widespread mod support, I would really appreciate it.

It is true that a majority of mods these days support 1.6.640 version of Skyrim, but the mods I listed in my original comment alone are making me hesitant to switch from 1.5.97 to 1.6.640. It also helps that some of the mods made with 1.6.640 in mind have been backported to 1.5.97, like the SimonMagus mod Stormcrown.

even with updates and mods i still find myself going back to the older elder scrolls games, just replayed oblivion now binging daggerfall. it still boggles my mind how much the game has been watered down over the years, you would think they would be adding stuff not removing it. we use to have spellmaking, there was a climbing skill, speed use to count towards attacking, levitation was possible, stores randomly generate wares and was not preset. it is possible to fail a quest entirely including the main quest, quests would random generate the npc you got it from would not have that same one in another run, it was possible to lose your bounty because if your reputation increases enough guards will leave you alone. its also possible vise versa if you have a bad rep npcs wont talk to you, a loan could be taken out of the bank, nudity was present and widespread, you could join different factions such as kynareth or julianos, there are soo many more great ideas they just abandoned i cant even scratch the surface..

when the last update happened, I couldn't even use any of the creations with mods because after a minute of gameplay it would become corrupted and becoming unplayable, so I just had to not use any of the creations but since this update that has no longer been an issue, but I can't use any of the address library mods like Dynamic Animation Replacer etc but it's not that big of a deal in my opinion

I've updated my SKSE to 2.2.6 but it says that it's only meant for VR Skyrim. Which I don't have, nor will I play it in VR, but the fact remains that I can't use the new and updated SKSE for my game. I get that Bethesda is trying to make their games more console friendly. But to the point where my game breaks when I got to create a new character when I've spent nearly a full day trying to get my mods installed and working properly. Especially, since most mods are SKSE dependent. I've downgraded it and hope it'll work but it still irritates me that this happened. Thanks for creating this video and sharing it with us. Bethesda screwed themselves over with the creation club paid mod content. Since they’re implementing PAID MODS, they now have no choice but to go in and fix what ever bugs or issues show up with said paid mods, and the creation store. So now the updates will never stop, downgrading is the only option for modders.

Hi its been 3 years after i came back from playing skyrim i've tried downgrading and downloaded some necessary mods however everytime i play it it would seem to cause me blue screens which is scary lmao i am not sure of what the reason would be. Prior to this issue however my game would launch properly as in the base vanilla game and at the same time the SSE v 1.6.1170 along side the new SKSE Anniversary Edition build 2.2.6 so my guess would be a problem with 1.5.97 but then again i am not sure about it .

This is exactly why I switched to the GOG version and set it to no updates. I'm still playing on and older version and all my mods work. A lot of the mods still did not work with the first update Bethsda had even though some of the mods were fixed or being fixed by the mod authors and being as how steam wouldn't even let me play the game without updating even after I turned my auto updates off it wasn't worth it. All of my mods work fine with no issues thank god because it was a pain. I'm happily playing on version 1.6.659 with no issues and I will not be updating either.

If Bethesda wanted to stay in player's good graces, they would make an Official Patch Mod, downloadable from the Bethesda website, when at all possible. I'm sure there are changes that require a new version, such as the Anniversary Edition and Creations release, however many of these updates had been addressed by mods prior to Bethesda making an official fix.

Trying to use Achievement Enabler by xShadowmanx on my PC. I downloaded it through Vortex and it is checked and enabled but every time I go to load a save (I’ve tried multiple saves all non modded/haven’t saved with any mods yet) it still shows the achievements disabled box. As this video was posted 7 days ago I’d imagine it is working and I must be doing something wrong? I’m playing AE newest update on PC through the Xbox app. Any help or advice would be appreciated. You need SKSE64 or the DLL loader, as stated on the mod page, for it to work. SKSE64 obviously doesn’t work with the Xbox/Microsoft version, but I believe the DLL loader might? As always, be sure to follow the instructions on that page when installing.

My Load Order keeps shutting stuff off and shuffling randomly. 90% of button inputs in Creations menu (particularly, Reorder, going back, progressing/activating virtually anything and everything, and even reorders undoing themselves... Skyrim had a good thing going, then it screwed everything up, and they can't even fix it right. Is there anyone in Bethesda that actually has a degree in software engineering or anything like that? Question - as someone who has only played through Skyrim once before - using a Barbarian build - and found encounters with dragons awkward beyond words - is there a way to make such encounters less...anti-climactic when using a melee build? I had to get a bow and a bunch of arrows because I found the immersion-breaking that my double-headed axe or whatever it was too trying :P Regardless - I'd like to hear ya'll take on what the most "fun/chill" build is. THIS is why you should just turn off updates (make the game update only when i launch the game) and stick to a version and make it so skyrim is read only so steam will never update even if you accidentally click the update button because the game can't be write to the exec file anymore. i stick to 1.6.64 I do not wanna deal with this bullshit every time i want to just play skyrim after work. I think it is bullshit that Bethesda wants keep updating a game form a decade ago for some cheap money. this is not them adding content just trying to get money. and the fact they keep doing this to Skyrim is a disgrace. i love this game but this is just frustrating to see.

After downloading an overhaul mod for fallout 4 off nexus, i figured Skyrim would be just as easy. Spent 3 hours to not be able to download constellation. Uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times because i the downgrader couldnt find any of the files. Really frustrating. Constellation looked and sounded incredibly fun

bethesda is the only company that will punish the extensive work of modders by pushing these updates adter 10+ years. If not for mods skyrim would've died a long time ago. I myself had to downgrade to 1.5.97 because i wanted to have the most options for modding. Just leave the game alone and move on with your corpo-rat bullshit bethesda!

I don't get the people that are around now at Bethesda, and I say it that way because we have to be clear that these are NOT the same people who made Elder Scrolls 1, 2 and 3, they are just meat riding off the name of those that came before them like so many Devs now days. That said regardless of which generation of Devs you are, you would THING one thing has always been clear with Bethesda and it is that the Modding community is their LIFE BLOOD, hell more so when you take into count that after the REAL good people left and we have the ones making games that can hardly run day with with a stick of gum holding it together with some pocket lent, a hope, a pray, and a dream, only for the Modding community to come in a outright FIX your game AND give it a life line of over of 10 to 20 plus years and STILL going strong, you would think that at best they give a smile, nod and a wink, and not try to piss said group of people off.

After 12 years it's time people just move on instead being exploited and terrorized by Bethesda... and quite frankly, Skyrim was always overrated and overhyped, a decent game but far from 'the best ever'. The only reason why it's still popular are mods, but now Bethesda deliberately nuking mods... So f Bethesda.

I'm not looking forward to the Fallout 4 next gen upgrade, only because of things like this. I deleted ALL of my modded saves on Skyrim and have quit using mods because of all the breaks with updates. Just got tired of my mods getting broke. It's sad because i used to love all the mods. I'm afraid that Fallout 4 will end up the same way, and i'll walk away from mods all together. It's not fair to the modders because they've put so much hard work into their mods.

Every new "update" makes Oldrim look more and more appealing. So far I have updates disabled but if Steam and Bugthesda somehow find a way to sneak upon me I'll uninstall Skyrim for good.

No problem at all if nanny software did not FORCE us to update against our will and thus force someone like me that is the sole arbitrator of what runs on MY PROPERTY to use workarounds to keep it from updating. THIS IS A STEAM/VALVE PROBLEM AS WELL, NOT JUST BETHESDA. Platforms need to give end users FULL VERSION ACCESS AND CONTROL, especially for single player games.

I stopped updating my game a while back. Auto updates are off and Steam stays in offline mode, as it should be. I'm not ruining my modlist.

This is why I have it set to update on launch and never launch it through steam. Also there is the downgrade patcher which works perfectly fine

Very enlightening video as usual, thanks. However, Bethesda's insistence in issuing these additional updates has in all fairness ruined the gaming experience for this platform. I'll stick with the version I have and play with the mods I KNOW function properly, and that's all she wrote. Thanks Bethesda, thanks for destroying the modding capabilities of one of the best games ever created. Sure hope it was worth it. That's one hell of legacy you've established.

100% you should make a video on how to downgrade and make skyrim Read only. it is not hard for people to learn but it is a bit of a process, especially with users who use mods aren't the most MOD experienced. Doing what i said above really helped me out, i love when theres guides like this out there that can help people now and in the future. there was plenty of videos i found of someone posting a video and me finding it like 2 years later and it helping out.
