*Share*, *Like*, *Comment* & help us grow. Without you guys we are just a hobby. Description will be updated when I figure out the new format. I will link all .ini tweaks in it as well as the times in the video where each .ini setting is so you can skip to them for reference. I opted out of the fancy scroll format and decided that this tutorial "template" is going to be used not just for Skyrim but for Fallout as well. It's simpler, a lot of you like that, and it's easier for me to manage. It also reflects the google doc. -Michael

@The Gamer Unknown Tagging no longer works since google+ separation and your reply button is disabled. PLEASE people, enable your reply buttons in your settings! To answer your questions, With DynDOLOD, yes you still need to use these settings, DynDOLOD adds more and better LOD for objects,but it does not change the distance at which they appear, or which quality is loaded. LOD has 3 different levels of detail. Those settings are still dictated by the ini file, same goes for trees! Obviously the settings you can set depend on your system. These settings are neither a replacement, nor a conflict for DynDOLOD. Your second question regarding ENBoost. Michael was talking about ENB in this tutorial, that is to say, the graphical part of ENB. ENBoost is not ENB. So to answer, when using only ENBoost, you do not enable bFloatPointRenderTarget as you are NOT using ENB. I believe he does mention that pretty well. Hope this clears that up. Happy gaming -Joe

For the final ini guide, I would suggest also mentioning the component each setting stresses (if any). For example shadow distance is CPU intensive, shadow resolution is GPU intensive. For me, turning shadow distance from the equivalent of the ultra setting to low almost doubles my framerate, while shadow resolution has no effect on my framerate, even if I set it to 8k or 16k. This would help people with unbalanced systems, or low single threaded performance.

Amazing tutorial, I've been following various guides from a few of mod communities of vast experience such as yourself, as well the STEPS forums an GFX forums. I'm running a heavily modded game (@250 mods) with ENB caffeine. I thought I had tweaked my ini's (ENB, as well both skyrims) for near perfect performance for quality. Adjusted some of them to match this, since you are one of the top go to's. My game launches at 120 FPS, I know i've read the myriad of issues regarding games running over 60 FPS, I've set my enblocal ini to cap at 59.9 and vsync is enabled for ENB as well skyrim.ini. Still shows up as 120 FPS on launch and maintains that ratio for a solid 15-30 minutes of gameplay, everything is smooth, responsive. Then slowly starts getting whittled down by 2-5 FPS chunks until it reaches @50-60 FPS, game performance then begins to show slight stutters an gameplay starts showing delays in actions like tkdodge, or parrying attacks. Performance corrects itself with a fresh close/relaunch. Any suggestions?

It's not really necessary but if you want to walk into or over corpses like other havok enabled objects you can get it done in the Skyrim.ini file, and go under the headline [gameplay] (or create it), and insert the line _"usebAllowHavokGrabTheLiving=1"_ underneath (without quotes). (idk why it works despite it not starting with a lowercase letter like bFloat... or iMaxLOD... but it does have "usebAllow" without a space so it could be an error on my part when copying it from a forum post a year ago, but it's not been much of a problem tbh).

I'm running on an Nvidia GTX 750 Ti, i5 processor 2.65 ghz, and 12 gb of ram. I followed everything in the guide along with downloading SSME and ENBoost and my game literally never ever crashes now no matter what, it's amazing. My only question is, my game stutters quite a bit. What should I tone down in order to stop the stuttering a bit? I copied every value that you either advised/had in your .ini. I can provide screenshots of my .ini if it helps. I've never been this close to a perfectly modded skyrim so I'd like to know what I can do to finish it off. I'm not using an ENB or LOD mod of any kind, just 2 city mods, skyrim 2k textures, and Skyrim Flora overhaul. That's about it for those that'd effect performance. Kudos to you and the members of STEP.

+Alex Russell I turned the Grassfade distance down from 18000 to 12000, the stuttering is now absolutely minimal. Thanks for making this guide. I do feel compelled to comment about unsigned integers. They are called that because they don't have a sign; in other words they are only positive values. They can hold twice as high a value as a regular integer, since they don't allow negatives.... if Skyrim is allowing negative values, then they're not actually unsigned ints (since the u is just a convention). But where I've seen them used, like uGrids, a negative value wouldn't make sense anyway.

Hey! Thanks for your videos and guides. Something disturbed me in this one, at 5:30 you say set bSelectivePurgeUnusedOnFastTravel to 1. I wonder, is there a reason why it isn't mentionned in STEP guide on .ini modifications? (STEP 1 - 1D .ini Tweaks). Freeing RAM or VRAM seems crucial, and i think their guide is really relevant.

I'm seeing a lot of people talk that stableugridstoload is now considered a dangerous mod, and not to tinker with it up to 7. I had a character I dumped 2 years of my life into, only to have it CTDing everytime I went between riverwood and whiterun. Bad too, the game was now unplayable. So I really need stability when I'm doing a looong playthrough.
@spyroshock9673 жыл бұрын
it's always been considered dangerous. GamerPoets is the only person I've seen saying that it works through a long playthrough. I don't know what his load order looks like but I'll take his word since he's been doing this stuff for a long time and has been very successful at it. However, a lot of these recommended tweaks are outdated and several of them could mess up your game as they did with mine. Make each tweak with caution.

Corrections: 1. Sections are case insensitive, not case sensitive. [Display] and [display] will be read as the same. 2. Integers CAN be negative. I don't know why you correct yourself, when the video has that right. 3. Unsigned integers CANNOT be negative. That's the difference between them and integers: unsigned ones cannot be negative. If you give them a negative value, often they will induce CTDs. 4. fAudioMasterVolume cannot be raised above 1. Sorry, but I probably did have incorrect information in the SkyrimPrefs INI guide at one point prior to testing it.
@gamerpoets9 жыл бұрын
+DoubleYou Vids Good to see you man = ) ... Good on the info. I'll add the corrections to the negative stuff and case sensitivity when i make 1.1 for the tutorials. (the case part was taken right from the wiki...the negative info was from a few people who commented, one being a coder for his profession and I just took his word on it, which is when I added the notation as I dont recall even coming across a negative integer setting anyone on the internet to test it out on) Appreciate it being in the comments as well so I can just reference it here. I've had fAudioMasterVolume at 2.0 for quite sometime though, and when you record the game with it set to 2.0 and compare it to 1.0 the sound is noticeably louder (at least on the peak meter it is). I use to raise my Roleplay series game audio by 14 or 15 decibels in post edit to reach the same levels on the peak monitor and since settings to 2.0 I now only have to raise it by about 6 or 7 decibels. I've raised these levels louder in the past (probably been a year now but I wouldn't think things would have changed since the final official update?... I could test this again and see if I still get the same results) and i would get noticeable distortion on certain audio with the master set higher than 2.0(NPC voice mainly). Never went higher than 3.0 I believe but after hearing the distortion I never had a care to test it any higher. -Michael

+GamerPoets I might have been unclear in the wiki about the case sensitivity, and that might have been in development phase when I was still testing things out. An example of a negative value on an integer setting is iStoryManagerLoggingEvent=-1, which sets the event recorded when you enable bEnableStoryManagerLogging (still a relatively unknown usefulness, but it does work). There are other examples spaced throughout the guide, but mostly the negative values induce bugs, so they cannot be commonly used. Another one is iLastHDRSetting=-1 in [MAIN] inside Skyrim.ini. Not sure what that setting does yet. fAudioMasterVolume perhaps might increase volume, but it doesn't on my hardware, which it is possible to be a driver-side thing, whether or not volume normalization is enabled in the driver, for example. At any rate, if you open up the in-game settings and alter anything, it will reset it back to 1 if you have it above 1. And it is possible the behavior changed with an update, because I sorta thought that it was possible initially as well.

+DoubleYou Vids Good stuff man = ) Thank you. I'll definitely retest things when I do the revision again a bit further with the audio. I never thought about it being a driver thing, makes sense. I should mention that the change may only take effect for certain systems if any next time as well (also leaving personal notes to myself in this comment lol... I use the comments as reference for future videos now along side my personal google docs, I have too much info in too many different places otherwise). Its probably going to be a few months until I update this (though much easier than in the past as I now have storage room that can actually save all my work files instead of having to create them all from scratch every time... ) but if you get any other info that you think should be a part of the video Ill happily add other settings or mention things, whatever. Let me know and it will go in the vids. Same goes for any videos that I upload. I can use all the help that I can get. I plan on continuing skyrim for quite sometime though I will be having a large portion of the channel dedicated to fallout 4, but by no means entirely. -Michael

+GamerPoets Hi Michael, not sure you changed it yet, but the corrections from me and coder are both regarding the unsigned integers (u). Those cannot be negative. Normal integers can (i). Joe

Thank you so much! I am using an intel Pentium N3530, 4Gb of RAM, and went from around 15-20 fps with a horrible stutter that made the game almost un playable, to 30-40 fps flawless and no stutter! The game looks like total crap, but at least I can play it! Thanks for everything!

thank you for this very well put tutorial. However, I do not understand why you suggest vsync is necessary for ENB or even good for the game. VSYNC will run the game at the monitor refresh rate and has the tendency to give you a delayed feeling when moving the mose. Many people are very sensitive on that. Even with high framerate, the feeling is slow and sluggish. I can confirm all works just fine with vsync off in the inis and in the ENB settings. Cheers.

@ToggleAI9 жыл бұрын
Excellent guide and it's awesome that you showed video comparisons between settings. Do you personally use the StableuGridsToLoad mod since you already have the ini tweak setting the value to 7? Or you just go with the ini tweak?

+Toggle AI Thanks, Michael uses it combined with the StableuGridsToLoad mod. -Joe

I need help, where is the file for key bindings? I accidentally set the escape key to two of the same button and effectively can't go into settings normally.

+Louis Sagrav Thanks = ) All the skyrim stuff will be linked here: docs.google.com/document/d/1czD6G-iNclODPsO50Ikaykw1MapRkNNwX4MsYdOVIyM/edit eventually. The docs were down with the expected website to get up and running but since that's slow i've went ahead and remade some new docs to work from. the .ini file stuff still needs to be recreated but it will be soon. +Yevon van Zarovitch Yes it does = ) ... Make sure to install skse and create the skse.ini and add shesons memory patch (skse video on the channel, make sure you watch the newer one if you need it). And use ENB. You don't have to use the graphics from ENB but the speed/boost side of things really helps.... for the .ini stuff start tweaking back things... make the grass settings a little smaller of a number. Make the tree settings back a little bit. Maybe turn the shadows down if you don't need them rendered so much.-Michael

Dear Michael - do you know where the ini file is located to change the key bindings outside of the game? Like the input controls for the mouse and keyboard? I searched in Skyrim/Data/Interface but there's no control folder there.

Shouldn't have anything to do with .ini files (i'm not aware of any settings that affect cursor position). Mods like Less Intrusive HUD II allow you to adjust those positions so if you have that installed that could be it... or.. that mod could help you out. -Michael

According to the text version: "A Section is signified by a title enclosed by square brackets "[ ]" and is comprised of all the settings beneath it. They are case insensitive." Though in the video it states that they are case sensitive. Which is correct?
