When I first started Skyrim, I: 1. Spent nearly 2 hours going on Reddit to figure out what starting race to pick and trying to understand what they meant by thief build, stealth archer build, battlemage build etc 2. Accidentally hit a chicken and got confused for 30 minutes wondering why unkillable NPCs were trying to kill me. 3. Got introduced to the Nord Space Program via Giant's Club 4. Didn't know you could ride a carriage, assumed it was decoration and ran to Whiterun, Riften and Solitude before spotting it. 5. Got owned by a dragon while panicking about how to make it come down because I only had an iron sword on me. 6. Got confused at how to swing a sword because I was on the Switch and didn't check the controls and was stupidly flailing the controllers around thinking motion controls were still on. 7. Got caught for stealing a sweet roll 8. Died trying to fight the guards 9. Got lost in the Ratway trying to find the Thieves Guild 10. Nearly pissed myself when I went to my first dungeon and got jumpscared by a draugr Good times.

I feel Bethesda wasted potential for a quest line where you individually hunt down members of the brotherhood and protect emperor Titus mede from assassination attempts For rewards they could have had some unique armour and weapons and even the ability to call a squad of penitus occilutas (I probably butchered that spelling) to help you fight and maybe you could have been awarded a player home like if you sided with the dark brotherhood It would have made being a good guy worth it Oh well

Destroying the brotherhood just isn't worth it financially. By the time you knock off the resale price of that armour it wont even match the 20k for killing the emperor. Not to mention all the assassination quests that pay rather handsomely. Add in that it you finish upgrading the dawnstar sanctuary the shrouded armour randomly spawns on mannequins throught the cave. There are also people to torture to find stashed chests with cash and armour in them. As a whole the questline must give you nearly 100k gold + loot and shadow mere. (Maybe someone could complete it without spending to see the total amount at the end of the questline?). To give that up for a measly 3k and some armour is plain stupidity. The only reason to do it would be for role playing reasons

In my first playtrough I was deep into Volkihar Castle, right before Valerica's study where you have to open a secret passage and somehow I thought sleeping inside one of the coffins would've done the trick. Astrid went to a remote island of the shore of Skyrim into a vampire infested castle just to kidnap someone that got rewarded with a plate.

I always play a good character so I have a hard time joining the Dark Brotherhood because I roleplay. Unlike Oblivion where all the people you kill for the Dark Brotherhood are actually bad people, the victims in Skyrim are not so it is hard to motivate it. But I wish that the quest to destroy the Dark Brotherhood was longer and had better rewards.

My main issue with the kill the dark brotherhood quest as role-playing a noble character, is that you cant do it without rolling into the orphanage and chopping off some old ladys head in front of a group of children. Yeah I get shes not a good person, but thats too extreme for certain roleplays.

@@mchapman2424 There's a mod for that. "Innocence Lost Alternative" allows you to report Grelod's abuse of the children to a guard who will then confront Grelod. Grelod resists arrest and is killed by the guard. The quest proceeds normally from there.

But I agree this comment even when I joined the dark brotherhood on my first play through of the guild I felt I was walking down a grim path because these are bad people. Actually in some of the contracts in Skyrim some expected it. Most of the people didn’t deserve it. So yeah it’s hard for me too to also motivate it. Especially when you side with the legion and and then also have to assassinate the emperor. Also very few deserve it in Skyrim like one of the people in the contracts was a vampire and fought me. Overall 99% of the people in Skyrim don’t deserve it. Sadly it’s better to do it to a point where you can spawn a spectral assassin. TDLR: they make the Thieves Guild in Skyrim look like saints since they don’t kill unless it’s one of their own.

There is a glitch in this guild quest line : when Astrid first takes you to the abandon shack and you have the pickpocket perk to take equipment, you can steal her blade of woe and then go through the quest line and Astrid will drop another blade of woe when she dies

@@floydlechner2445 You do realise the reason why the Empire signed the White Cold Concourdent is because the Empire needed to regain its strength to fight against the Aldmeri Dominion. And not to mention when worship of Talos was banned people just started secretly worshipping him and the Empire didn't really care. It was only when Ulfric made the Stormcloaks did the Empire start being violent to Talos worshipsers because the Dominion got mad about it told them to do it and the Empire had too regain its strength. Ulfric and the Stormcloaks only think short term while the Empire thinks long term. The banning of Talos is a necessary evil to eventually destroy the Dominion.

That is a pretty big MISSED chance to do some great questline. Killing the Dark Brotherhood members in Skyrim could've been the trigger to rebuild the guild by yourself. Imagine, right after you killed everyone, the voice of Night Mother reaches you and flatters you for a great, great killing. Then she begs you to rebuild the guild with Cicero's help, you recruit some NPCs, and then you get the chance to do the other contracts on the original questline, but without some like Kill of an Empire. The fact that it's so obvious that it's not worthy to destroy DB, actually told you that it's not how you are supposed to play this, so it makes pointless the possibility.

You know, if you have a pickpocketing of 100 and the perk points needed to steal equipped items, you can get TWO blades of woe. You'd need to pickpocket the dagger from Astrid either when you first see her or in the sanctuary. You'll get the second one for performing the Black sacrament on Astrid.

goodenuff4mii it's easy to make a better dagger, you can disenchant the blade of woe first. Also if your smith skill is high enough you can make a daedric dagger and then enchant it with absorb health. Also you can sharpen the blade to make it legendary. one more thing as well that if your enchanting skill is really high you'll be able to enchant it into absorbing more than just 10 health.

+Vemundr The argument for Mercer Frey is that, despite undoubtedly being an asshole, his assholery actually results in a ton of good results for everyone even if those results are unintentional on his part. This is contrary to the Thieve's Guild in its entirety (even Karliah) who claim to be on the moral high ground when, logically speaking, their actions don't benefit anyone but themselves to the point where they can very easily be considered evil. Mercer can be compared to Gaius Maro in that both do something extremely dickish to the player for a selfish reason which creates a vendetta, but both of them do technically benefit the literal entire world if they succeed in doing those selfish, dickish actions despite both of them not giving a shit about the world.

Kyrenaz Kanir You can find cicero some where random in skyrim. If you approach him he tells you that his carriage broke down and you can even see the night mothers coffin inside. You can then kill him and take the clothes off his body or you can help him by fixing the carriage. (not sure if you can kill him thw)

I mean, the fact of the matter is that the regular Dark Brotherhood quest line is much longer and more in-depth than this one. I imagine it would’ve been cool if these agents used the black sacrament to call fake hits on people, then sent you to stop them once they arrive. Or something. I feel like they could’ve used a different character to start the quest so that Astrid could be the final kill in the quest, much like the Emperor would be her counterpart. Heck, maybe you could even stop her from trying to kill the emperor or something. These are just ideas, but this optional quest detailed in the video seems pretty lackluster compared to the alternative.

the fact that shadowmere fights doesnt make difference because horses are terrible in skyrim for fighting and arvak is always with you because you can summon him just take 2 seconds(and level up conjuration) shadowmere can die and is super slow to make him come back and you can use arvak prtty much everywhere, like in solstheim and blackreach

Shadowmere is training.... useless he's shitty at it. Giants and Mammoths are far more effective for training armor skills and any enemy works for weapon skills. You can train ten times faster using actual enemies then you can using the stupid horse. SO what if he fights? Its a mere 10dmg per hit. Completely useless. He's more likely to get in the way then actually contribute to the fight. The entire point of a horse is to ride it, to get to one point to another a little faster then walking. Or a lot faster if your over encumbered. Its for convenience and in that regard Arvak wins with bonus points for being able to ride him in "outdoor" places you normally can't bring a horse

Killing Astrid in the cabin is what I did the first time I ever played. Though in actual cannon, Titus Meade gets assassinated during the time of the last dovahkiin, whether the player does it or not

If you follow the dark brotherhood then you can get 2 blade of woes. If you pick pocket Astrid early on then, then at the end of the quest line she’ll give it to you like you’ve never taken it in the first place. I think it’s pretty cool in my opinion because it’s a pretty powerful weapon

The only reason I go all the way on the dark brotherhood questline is that I love Cicero. I don't see him as an annoying prick but like accept that he's gone mad and for some reason he was the only one that I trusted on my first playthrough. He's also my favourite follower. He cannot be killed, he is *helpful* unlike others and actually kills the enemies around you, also I love it when I load the game and I hear his voice as a welcome: "Let's kill someone!"

It’s already been said I really wish there was an equivelent of this for the thieves guild and Maven Black Briar. The Questline isnt even that good, my dragon born doesn’t do petty thievery, I want Mjoll’s Respect, and I want my soul to go to Sovngarde when I die and not eternally belong to Nocturne. Only reason I’d do it is because Nightingale Armor and The Eyes of The Falmer are pretty sick.

You guys where begging me to do it!" ignoring me she asked me to kill someone but not telling me who had the contract me: "That's... not how it works... I'm an assasin, not a murderer. I do not enjoy bloodshed, I only do it to honour our dread father and send his marked few to the void." she: "No, I say kill you kill. Thats all." "well then you're out of luck, I wont kill without a propper contract" "well you aint leaving until someone dies" ... really poor choice of words as she goes down Astrid mutters "well done" could this be a test? "of course! no dark brother would ask me to kill without a contract!" *quest failed* ... huh ... the developers really want to trick me *new quest - destroy the DB" ... *go talk to guy* it has to be an undercover agent... If they had added more, I mean when you helped the Emperor in Oblivion what did he do (granted it was the new one) He made you a mother flipping blade. Maven black briar performs the black sacrament to kill you. That's why you get assassin's after you. If you go to her house there's a locked room with proof of her performing it

Awesome to see the outcome. If there was a 5k gold or even a 10k gold reward, it may be more worth it. (Since a certain contract rewards you with 20k gold in the outcome) Also, like joining Stormcloak or Empire sides, you fulfill a questline either way by your side of choice; should have been a choice as well for DB - but for further Elder Scrolls titles, the Dark Brotherhood must continue, right?

I played through all of the dark brotherhood quest and then some and got to a assassination mission were you had to kill a sweet old lady at the castle neer whiterun and I saw her then said screw this deleted all of my saves back to the shack and stabbed astred to death lol

You don't need the note, I tested it out with my new character the other day. I killed Grelod late in the day fast traveled straight to Windhelm afterwards and collected my plate reward, and then just went to bed like one in game hour later and still got kidnapped anyway.
