I've probably played Skyrim for thousands of hours by now, and the more I look at it, the more I see an ambitious project that was rushed by a project manager eager to ship the product and move on to the next franchise. Perhaps the endeavor was much more ambitious than initially anticipated, and they ran out of time, or perhaps they ran out of patience. Either way, the game is full of question marks, the fact that you can never solve the feud between the Gray Manes and Battle Borns is one example, another one is that dude who approaches you with the "note" in Markarth after you save Margret from the Forsworn agent. The dude has his face painted in native Forsworn warpaint, yet he states that he hates them because they killed his father. This makes no sense, and it got me questioning if he was an undercover Forsworn on my first play through, though even so, why would he paint his face and pose as a citizen of Markarth? The fact that you cannot cast spells, or wield a torch on a horse, yet you can wield a bow with both hands, no problem, shows me that they haven't even had time to finish most of the animations that were needed for the game. Another weird example that once you see it, can't be unseen, is the fact that all camp fires in Skyrim are comically sized, much larger than they would have to be. I used the Jaxon's Positioner mod which lets you resize objects and move them, and once you lower the size of a campfire, it really starts to look a lot more realistic than what the vanilla game has them sized at.

Sounds like a good basis for a mod. Clear out the bandits and take over the ruins for your faction (there's a mod for that). Use a Hearthfire workbench to restore the ancient glory of the forge with some custom meshes. Rewrite the lunar enchantments to be more useful, including some armor enchantments. Create a unique set of weapons and armor forged with moonstone (of course) that can only be made at the lunar forge.

Doesn't explain why the Snow Elves are scared of the Skyforge though if it was dedicated to their own Gods. Not only are they scared of that forge they seem unsettled by the whole region in the histories. What will become Whiterun hold is entirely abandoned when the Companions first arrive. So if it is tied to Lorkhan, it might be that both forges are tied to his work. There's always a bit of duality when it comes to the idea of Lorkhan so two forges representing two sides of the nature of the god of Man. One for day and one for the night, or one for the bold and strong, the warrior fighting in the light of day, and one for the stealthy and subtle, the assassin or thief killing from the shadow of night.

@cstains55434 жыл бұрын
@@tcgaming4007 Actually I have a companion theory that the Eagle is not an eagle at all but a hawk which is the symbol of the traditional wife of Lorkhan in human mythos, Kyne. As such it also makes sense that the two are on hills near each other on the same plain. Kyne AKA Kynareth is a warrior goddess in human myth and leads Shor's armies after his death and guards his sacred sites from defilement at the hands of the elven gods. That a hawk would adorn the Skyforge and the elves who fear the plain and valley of Whiterun where both Kyne and Shor walked with their loyal followers does mesh quite well. It also accounts for the total lack of Dwemer presence across the province with the only place with any Dwemer ruins being a Falmer cave on the border with the Pale. When Topal the Pilot, the Elven forefather who brought the Elves to Tamriel, arrived on the continent several of the lore books make mention of various "beast races" but the vague descriptions could easily cover races that are both beast (Argonian, and Khajiit) and men (some form of Medic people) they also make mention of races of bird men. Many of these races were either slaughtered by the elves or enslaved by them or driven into the harsh wastes like the Nedic peoples who survived in the Deadlands (modern day Hammerfell) until the coming of the Redguards and the harsh lands of Morrowwind until the Chimer, who became the Dunmer, started the wipe them out. Any of these groups could easily have been the original builders of either or both forges.
@treybrzezowski32594 жыл бұрын

My guess is much simpler and not as glamorous: The elder scrolls universe is very dependent on magic and, as weird as it may seem sometimes, there's a logic to it. Like alteration depending on manipulating reality the same way you carve ground to divert a river or enchanting being based on what are essentially deals with supernatural beings, there are also specific rules to natural magical events. So what if the skyforge's properties are not so much about the forge itself, but where the forge is located? It would explain why the lunar forge may have odd properties that are far less powerful than it's counterpart and why even smiths cant explain what the skyforge actually does to make weapons better. It would also explain why burning a powerful warrior's body in it might "feed" it's effects, since we see natural magical events have strange effects under specific circumstances like heart stones bringing people back to life when embedded into them. It's possible an ancient civilization could stumble upon this power when building the lunar forge (hence why it's effects are less impressive but still noteworthy) and harvest this anomaly by finding the strongest spot it influenced and making the skyforge, eventually interpreting it as a blessing from their god and building a shrine around their creation. It would explain why you don't get blessings out of it like any other shrine, but instead are able to harvest it's powers through crafting. Like Neloth reanimating someone during his experiments, it's simply a source of power that was found and experimented with until it was eventually and successfully applied to our needs as mortals.

I think the only reason it's called a betrayal is because the gods, like Mundus and the Magne-ge, coveted what they had and refused to give it up. They were more concerned with themselves than with Lorkhan's grand idea of actually creating something that isn't a giant ball of fuck-up-your-timeline (looking at you, Eye of Magnus).

Given the fact that there is a large citadel, and that citadel does seem to be built around the Lunar Forge, it probably did have some major historical significance. This could very well be due to engine limitations, but the condition of the citadel itself, and the fact that the fauna has not overtaken the citadel, makes the citadel look like it has only been in ruins for a few centuries. So, my guess is that the citadel was destroyed, or abandoned, sometime during mid-to-late Third Era. As for its construction, the architecture clearly looks to be early Nordic. For example, you see exactly that same dome structure at early Nordic burial crypts, such as Volunruud, Kjenstag, Windward Ruins, Roadside Ruins, and even that Stalhrim source on Solstheim. And, of course, you also see exactly that same dome structure at all the dragon burial mounds around Skyrim. The dome atop the Lunar Forge also has a wall behind it, a wall very similar to the wall around the courtyard outside Forelhost. As for the lower part of the citadel, we see nearly exactly that same architecture at Saarthal, and again at Labyrinthian. Shalidor even used that same architecture when he build that maze at Labyrinthian. Given that mix, I am going to guess the citadel we see today was constructed sometime between late Merethic, to early First Era. So, if the citadel was not built by Ysgramor, then it was between his time, and around the time of Shalidor.

One detail that I think might have been missed here, and it's key to why the Lunar Forge "does nothing" - it is contemporaneous to when Lorkhan was still whole. There would have been only ONE moon, uncloven and empowered, when axes were being struck upon its flames. The more modern enchantment on and for Lunar weapons is likely weak due to the fact that Lorkhan's power has been split and dimmed, although not entirely extinguished. The weapons we see at the ruins may also be the only ones remaining from that ancient era, perhaps recovered from the surrounding area by the same people trying to stoke the Forge, unknowingly absent the full godly power it has always required to properly ignite.

I think they were going to have a big sidequest that was gona center around the forge, possibly restoring it to its former glory, and it got cut real early in its development, cause if you go into the ruin part it opens up like other ruins but where the center path would be is just a wall, like they put it in there last minute. Missed opportunity not bringing it back for dawnguard

I see you're running the Immersive Armors and JK's Whiterun mods. I love both of these. Especially since Immersive Armors tends to make the trade caravan Khajiit look like hippies. Since you've mentioned issues with dyslexic mistakes when reading in-game books, perhaps you should try the mod "Audio Books of Skyrim". Nearly every book from the vanilla game has been given the option to be listened to as an audio book, with a variety of different readers, including appropriate accents for the in-game authors. The Mysterious Note, from the Dark Brotherhood is my favorite. Who knew two words could be made so creepy?

I feel like they could’ve done so much more with Skyforge steel maybe give the weapons a unique model or something

It would be cool if the khajit had a special forge that would give a special unique enchantment based on the position of the moons in the sky. Just as they are unique by the same movements

That's a nice theory, but if the Skyforge was a monument about the victory of the Old Ehlnofey (Elves) over the Wandering Ehlnofey (Men), why did the elven captives of Ysgramor and the Companions seemed to fear the Skyforge and all the surrounding area? It doesn't add up, I'd really like it to be expanded upon a little further

Do you plan on making lore video about the worm cult?
@dicyanoacetylene62203 жыл бұрын
Could be that the book was written prior to the great war, and that those enchantments are weakening due to the efforts of the Thalmor. Perhaps prior to the white gold concordance, lunar forged weapons did have a life drain effect, but now it has diminished to a mear burning. Perhaps the reason for it only being in affect while the moons are out are due to that Lorkan moon connection, and that it would've been stronger if Lorkan wasn't the forgotten god. And perhaps the enchantment in the hands of men, those that descended from the wandering, would be more effective against mer, those descended of old, but would be weaker if not detrimental if an elf wielded a lunar weapon against a human?

But the lunar forge is located in a Nordic burrow, implying that the atmorans has probably seen and discovered it. Maybe that one location had been known for its area and moon light collecting in term some Nordic mages were like let’s build a forge

With the theory that Ysgrammor's 500 companions were werewolves, I think the Lunar Forge might've been the last chance for the Altmer to create weapons to defeat the Companions.
@Khoros-Mythos3 жыл бұрын
The original companions were NOT werewolves. The werewolf curse in the companions is very recent. Did you even play the game?

00:39 No it isn't, there not many trees in there, the soil is a thin layer of dirt over rock and gravel, it is hard to plant and easy to build heavy structures, like whiterun... there are forests around it and a nice view... That's why that's a tactical nice place to whiterun and the companions, not the soil...

Im curious,mayhaps it has another factor to why its called the lunar forge. I have suspicion or even a theory that mayhaps the forge like its weapons were crafted by vampiric ancients that were killed out or left it behind to be forgotten either way the reasoning behind it is because of how the lunar enchantment works,if one ever played a vampire you'll be in the variety thats weak in daylight much bein due to how vampires work but then theres the factor if its applied to weapons like that which are highly more effective in the night,a timeline a vampire has the home advantage in- well that's a weapon of which can be a very great boon especially if your a vampire.
