@Wirr Ling well I don't know if you remember but the Stormcloaks didn't want the help from the empire. I do think that some of the Nords have gotten a little lazy Whiterun looks like shit so I agree with you when it comes to that. There should have been some kind of repair to the city after the battle for Whiterun I mean they have a valid reason to fix that crap and they don't do anything. Seriously I don't think most of the Nords really want the Empire there you know the outlawing of Talos is all you hear about pretty much throughout the whole game. At least the Nords are still Nords the Imperials are mixed race that have descended mostly from Nedic and Nord stock.

Shalidor was not that powerful or influential as a mage, in the lore in clearly states that most of the stories about him was hyperbole and fabrication. Nords are great warriors and shout users, but orcs are stronger as warriors according to the lore.

@Wirr Ling I'll admit that. I don't think when Beth made this they gave the Nords a fare shake. The entire story feels to flimsy. Even in hard mode the game is easy. Back to winter hold. I just made a new nordic mage build using some mods, he's a nordic history enthusiast and is as true a nord as any. However, he follows the old ways and is a mage and seeks to become greater than any of the dragon priests of old, even taking on his own dragon name. This video just inspired me even more to play on him and keep him as nordic as possible. He has no mercy for elves, reveres the dragon but devours their souls. Worships the old gods, but reveres "newer" gods of nordic origin such as Talos as a mighty hero. It's fun overall.

Theory time: Giants are shown to have pointy/elven like ears, yet are supposedly also descendants from the Atmoran (proto) Nords, just like current day Nords. All Nords and other human races supposedly lost their long life spans that were like that of Mer when Alduin/Orky (don't remember who did it) turned them all into children. Could it be that this is a metaphorical way of saying they lost their long life spans, and thus became "ignorant like Mer children" due to their short lives? Let alone that all races of Man originally also had, not only long lifespans, but also pointy ears? I do believe it might not be possible as I think I recall a story about Ysgramor who was hunting that might contradict that, but I'm not sure when Alduin/Orky stole all races of Men their lifespans. (before or after the Atmoran Nords came to present day Skyrim)

I like to think that Atmora was one of three things. Either it was an old elven site where the summer-magic slowly faded, or a volcanic area which changed over time, or else it was just a fable - a warped spoken history, the old speaking well of their old homes. I tend to think the first one is fairly likely, as the Nords seem quite intrigued by patterns and motifs as well, which could be inspired by the elven ruins. You could see their rune-work motifs as crude copies of the flowing Ayleid or Altmeri lines. I also think that the fact they share a reverence for winged things and things of the air, to be a curious coincidence, not just in the divine analogies.

Ysgrammor saw this as genocide and worldwide destruction. He was able to stop them from completely remaking the world, but they changed enough that Atmora would be doomed to freeze.

I would guess it was more reactionary. The Snow Elves wanted to keep the Eye of Magnus from the Nords because they were not nearly as advanced or intelligent. The nords fought back and lost. Then came back and started wiping out the Falmer, then the Falmer used the eye to try and freeze Atmora, but lost anyway.

No dude the Snow Elves attacked the Nords cause they feared the Eye of Magnus and didn't want the Nords to discover it

So what y’all are saying is that the nords came from a land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow? And the hammer of their gods drove their ships to new lands to fight the mer, and sing and cry “ sovengarde we are coming”? Sounds familiar..

How is it, that the current nords seem to be less technologically advanced than the atmorans?
@Alizudo4 жыл бұрын
We are currently in the Skyrim Dark Ages. The Nords have been servants of the Empire for centuries, and have slowly decayed because of infectious Cosmoploitainism. The same thing happened to the Imperials themselves; the old ways were more advanced, more powerful, more worthwhile, but the Empire has grown fat, lazy, and is now rotten to its core.
@TheTdroid4 жыл бұрын
In short? Because Tamriel is regressing, not advancing, technologically and magically. While a fictionalized version of history, the in-game book series "Last Year of the First Era" makes a point of the coming of the 2nd Era changing everything, which lines up pretty well with the current state of things. Another possibility is that things only seems more badass and advanced in the past because we're looking back with incomplete information.
@iwonakaplon33992 жыл бұрын
@@TheTdroid honestly id argue that its less to do with regression and more with the lack of a central power thats invested in skyrim. the high kings under the empire seem to have less power over the other holds than they did when independently ruling, so great feats of architecture and such just aren't as possible. take ancient Egypt for example. the pharaohs ruled with an incredibly tight grip due to their control of the nile, and hence their word was absolute and unquestionable in most cases. thats really what made the pyramids possible. compare them with, for example, the later Muslim caliphs and sultans who would rule Egypt. they either didn't have the same power, wealth, and influence as the pharaohs of old did, or like the ottoman sultans were more interested in bettering their capital and the real core of their empire, and so even tho they were all more technologically advanced than the ancient Egyptians, none left such longlasting monoliths.

@@iwonakaplon3399 Prior to ESO, I would've been on board with an interpretation of Elder Scrolls lore that says that it isn't less advanced, but that the older eras have fallen so far into legend that it was overstated. But with ESO, we can see that everywhere we visit and can compare, it seems less primitive in the 2nd Era.

I don't know why, but Bethesda lost a lot of their creativity after Morrowind. Vvardenfell has such a deep, rich and alien culture. It felt like a legitimate alternate reality. And all regions have amazing lore, but the last few games have watered down their unique qualities.

@@LandStrider23 Yeah. They were like a dream team of creators. It's just sad, because I've seen very few games that can deliver a true fantasy these days. We are lacking in truly unique worlds. Everything is a stale copy of another fantasy giant's work. Some water down Tolkien, others ripoff Star Wars and Star Trek. The vast majority are just a vanilla medieval setting. Only a few have come close to that alien, otherworldly feeling that Morrowind does so well. Elden ring is the closest, but lacks a living breathing fantastical culture. The Witcher 3 did great with its creature design. Cyberpunk nailed it, in the alternative culture department. But nothing has hit all the same notes at once. I just want to meet a genuinely unique culture and world again.

Reference to the war in which Nords claimed "huge swathes of High Rock and Hammerfell" please.

The War of the Bend'r-mahk. It's mentioned in the Pocket Guide to the Empire, 3rd Edition. Also referenced in the Knights of the Nine Divines DLC for Oblivion. And explored in the spin-off game "Shadowkey" for old mobiles. Funny observation; the Reach as described in the Pocket Guide, 1st Edition is nothing like we see it in Skyrim. However, the *Western Reach* as decribed under the High Rock section is very much fitting with the Forsworn. So it looks like the Nords held onto land from High Rock, at the very least.

I always play a Nord and I always side with the Empire, warts and all. I can’t bring myself to side with the Stormcloaks. Not sure why, but Ulfric always seems to be trying to “Make Skyrim Great Again” when it could threaten the peace of Tamriel.
@neerGdyahS4 жыл бұрын
And you're not sure why? It sounds like you have the answer already. Ulfric is throwing a tantrum with no benefit. He's a pawn of the Thalmor and that's pretty much it.
@TheTdroid4 жыл бұрын
To be fair, the Thalmor and the Empire are both planing to go to war again. The peace is temporary. So let's not pretend Ulfric is changing anything there. For my own part, the Empire seems to be dying and they showed themselves perfectly willing to sacrifice the provinces to save Cyrodiil, as we saw with Hammerfell, so I can hardly blame the Stormcloaks for wanting out. Also, fun dialogue from Morrowind: "The Emperor is getting old. Don't know how much longer he'll hang on. So is the whole Empire, for that matter. Getting old, that is. The Emperor and the legions have held the Empire together for hundreds of years. It's been a good thing, by and large. But maybe it's time for a change. Time for something young and new. What? No idea. Because I'm old. Old dog doesn't get new ideas. But maybe young folks like you should try some new ideas. I don't know. Could be messy. But change is never pretty." - Wulf, Avatar of Talos
@caspianhorlick45294 жыл бұрын
On the one hand I understand Skyrim's hate of Talos worship being outlawed, but Ulfric dragging Skyrim into a bloody civil war is the worst response possible. The Stormcloaks and the Empire need to unite against their true enemy, the Thalmor, who are watching the citizens of Skyrim destroy each other.
@neerGdyahS4 жыл бұрын
@@TheTdroid You're completely missing the issue, it's not that Ulfric is pushing for hostilities with the Thalmor. Like you say, the war is going to resume anyway. The issue is that he's weakening both Skyrim and the Empire with his actions. He's giving the Thalmor what they want and setting them up to win. Regardless how you feel about the Empire, the Thalmor are bad news, and powerful. Which is part of why the Empire would be willing to sacrifice to preserve themselves.

I remember this guy (he was a really cool fellow, we had a fun debate going about Ysgramor and the Snow Elves) who said that from the Falmers' perspective, a bunch of immigrants just showed up to your country and started claiming it as their own when you and your forefathers had been living there for time immemorial. I kinda think that from the Atmorans' perspective, it was like coming back to your ancient ancestors' estate and finding out that a bunch of squatters have been living there for centuries. Worse still, it's your ancient enemies.
