@@jamesbarker4976 Well his point is that if United beat Everton (by no way a certainty), then after 34 games, we will have Manchester United on 67 points and Chelsea on 66 points. If Manchester United then beat City and Chelsea beat Burnley, then Manchester United will have 70 points and Chelsea will have 69 points. Therefore, if Chelsea then beat them they'll remain on 70 points and Chelsea will have 72 points (they'll be head). In the other scenario, if Manchester United lose to city, they stay on 67 points and Chelsea beating Burnley will go to 69 points. Meaning if Utd then beat Chelsea that they'll be on 70 points and Chelsea on 69 (UTD will be ahead). Problem is that regardless of what happens between UTD vs City, Chelsea vs UTD....etc, Arsenal, could end up after 36 games on 75 points. In other words, they shouldn't be worried about Chelsea when Arsenal is actually the team in prime position. Their best bet is to win every game and hope Arsenal slip up. Would Gary Neville rather see Utd in the Champions League next season or the Europa League? If beating City or at least getting a draw means Utd end up in the top 4 and qualifying for CL or resting players means that they end up 5th or even 6th, what would Neville prefer? Utd are not best placed in their CL match as Barca have a 1-0 away goal behind them and they are in a fight with Arsenal, Spurs (who have some tough matches ahead too), Chelsea who are looking to bounce back after a set-back for a top 4 finish. Europa league isn't a bad competition to be in but its not the Champions League, not the 'big' prize with the 'big' money and the 'big' draw for signing new players. There is talk of a clear out at the end of this season and Utd will need to offer a 'big' reason for the 'big' names coming in. If Liverpool, City and two out of the 3 London clubs Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs are looking at the 'big' names to come in - especially City with their money and big name manager are competing with Utd but also offer CL, Utd may have to spend more inc Wages - to entice players to sign and play Europa League football. Spurs haven't spent a lot on players but now their Stadium is finished, they could have money and CL football to offer. Poch is also a great manager. No disrespect to Ole but he has yet to prove himself as a Manager Pep, Klopp and Poch are big name managers who footballers will want to play under - couple that with Champions League and it could be 'tough' for Ole to get the 'big' name players to sign. Point is, Utd are in a 4 way fight for just 2 positions. Considering their start, its a great position to be in now. It was looking like they could of missed out on Europe altogether but a great run when Ole came in has put them in the mix for a top 4 finish. The top 2 are too far out of reach even if its not yet mathematically so. Obviously Spurs and Utd have to play City which, with the pressure on thanks to Liverpool keeping pace, means City will want to win, they won't be settling for a draw. That could open the door for Arsenal and Chelsea to take 3rd and 4th. Spurs and Utd need to try and win those matches against City to ensure they have a chance of CL. Beating Chelsea isn't guaranteed either - Hazard was incredibly unlucky not to score and that match wasn't really a '2-0' cruise for Liverpool. It could easily have ended in a draw. Losing has put pressure on them to get a result against Utd to put them in the CL. If Utd lose to both Chelsea and City, City especially in their own stadium with the 'local' rivalry at stake, Utd could end up 6th. Not a 'great' result for Utd and their fans who want 3rd right now and maybe settle for at least 4th meaning another season in Champions League...

More chance of winning the Europa in truth. In the CL for last number of years we fell out of the last 16 with poor performances as if the players couldn't care less. Sevilla last year springs to mind, 2 very poor performances from United and even this year we only made the quarter finals due to a massive slice of luck at the death vs PSG. Barcelona will win comfortably tonight and we are out. So yeah CL qualifying isn't really that great when your team is only there to make up the numbers and doesn't bother showing up against teams in the knock out stages (last 16).

Even if LFC go on to win the PL and CL or win nothing I can see both of the Spanish giants swarming in for Salah and Mane at least. City had an easy Champions league group stage because they won the prem last season and in the knockout stages they got Schalke because city finished top of their group and Schalke finished 2nd. In the quarters they got spurs who are in no way a bad team managing to beat Dortmund 4-0 over 2 legs is a difficult thing to achieve. In the cups (Carabao cup and the FA cup) we had it easy in the FA cup because either most of the big teams got beaten by easy teams (Man United and Liverpool) or the big teams just did not care about the FA cup and in the Carabao cup we had a very tough final against Chelsea which we barely won. And in the Premier league you think we paid Liverpool to beat them 2-1? and that win got us back in the title race. So in no way shape or form has it been "easy"
