Antony early on was almost 40 mil and Ten Hag was intrested in Gakpo who the couldn't buy after PSV refused to sell after their deadline for the deal. For the two signings the club was desperate and hence the huge fees. On Rasmus, Eric clearly wanted Kane an experienced stricker but the club didn't bother to even negotiate with Spur, they opted for a young inexperienced player and so far it has backfired

Lies lies. Ten Hag improved a number of players like Dalot, Mainoo, Garnacho, Amad. He was severly affected by instability on the playing squad with many injuries to almost the whole squad from stricker (Rasmus), midfielders (Maount + Erickson + Mainoo all injured at some point), left back (Malacia and Shaw), CB (Martinez, Maquire, Lindelof, Varane) and out of form stars like Rashy, Casemiro, Bruno. There are so many games where we lost by indivudual erros and not because of system or tactics. Even players he bought in who havent worked you can't really blame him, evern Fergie signed some top players that didnt work e.g. Veron, Cleberson, DjembaDjema, Barthez, Forlan, Taibi, Hargreaves, Orbetan, Bebe, Zaha, just to name a few.

My reading of the summer was that things are definitely still wrong at united. They allowed ETH to keep buying his old players (or players that he knew very well). Why? Either it's because the dressing room is toxic and they thought he needed players he could trust or the DoF still isn't doing his job. Either way, that doesn't sound like a quick fix.

The first season was pretty good. Martinez, Eriksen and Casemiro were good signings and there was a spine of a decent team that finished 3rd. Considering what was inherited from OGS it was a good job imo. Then the second season was a complete disaster where none of the signings worked out, the spine of the team that finished 3rd got injured and never played together again, everything that could have gone wrong did. There just wasn’t a clear best XI and so you go from 3rd to 8th which if anything flattered them. Now they are 14th which is currently a true reflection of the squad’s quality. Amorim may live to regret leaving Sporting as United is turning into a bit of an impossible job where the pressure to win is huge and the barriers to doing that rack up. Good luck to him!

Villa arent a great team, they dont have great players but they do have a good manager and they work hard. Forest are organised, no more than that and theyre in the top 4. Na mate. He inherited counter attacking players from 3 different managers and couldn't bring all his coaching staff and had to use the coaching staff from other sacked managers before him. As well as that, he had to run the club and had no support above him. He had to decide transfers. Ineos have come in and recruited a whole sporting department. Every other club had sporting directors who helped with transfers, and know their style of play. Ten hag simply needs to go to a club where there's support, where he already has players to play his ajax possession style.

He won them 3 titles(would have been 4 if not for COVID), 2 domestic trophies and took them to a Champions League semi final, which they had last been in the 1990s. And it is more "obvious" that this club has been purely commercial for the last decade and in such an environment it's is virtually impossible to implement any "style". A bunch of overhyped, self entitled, selfish players cannot play as a team. And it doesn't matter who purchased some of them, the culture at the club when they come in is what is relevant. Onana hojlund Martinez are fab! Ugarte deligt yoro mazaroui are pure class and yet to play…recruitment has been by far the best this season! Agreed Mount and Antony are exception but even the so called pundits and their knowledge is baffling!!!
