Great video! I actually upgraded to the ST+ after having enough of the Mevo+ and I absolutely love it. No more fussy setup and knock on wood, no endless problems and troubleshooting. I can get right into practicing and my numbers on the Skytrak seem to closely mirror what I’d play on the course. I did have 2 no reads today with driver, but I use mine outside and it seemed to fix when I moved the tee with the edge touching the dot instead of placing it right over the dot completely.

If you’re mainly indoors, going from radar to a camera-based launch monitor is pretty awesome! Thanks for watching!

What didn't you like about the mevo plus? I'm looking for a launch monitor for mainly indoor garage use ( space and lighting isn't an issue as garage is huge).
@mdamiano88 Жыл бұрын
@@nichollsboy11 Even if the space isn’t huge I think a camera-based unit is the move hitting into a net or screen. Mevo was hard to setup and the battery quality was horrible, needed it replaced. Flightscope help was really good but it’s not fun mailing a unit back and forth all the time. Mevo always worked well up to 5 iron but then the reads would often be very short with woods/driver (like 30 yards with driver), so that was very frustrating. I’ve since switched to the Skytrak and it’s very consistent, very accurate to my on course numbers and easier to use/setup overall. This is just my experience, but I think the price difference has been worth it.

Tq for your work sir. It has really been informative for me. Comparing your work with other KZbinrs, i realized that the numbers of the cheaper LM are quite close to their more expensive cousins. Which to me are trustable numbers. The weakness of the cheaper LM starts to be very glaring when it comes to driver. Never has i seen it could keep up with their more expensive cousins. Tq for ur work again sir.

Thank you! I'm glad you found it helpful. I agree that most launch monitors start to show some problems with driver, probably due to the higher ball speed.

You are comparing a Pro unit against a consumer unit and inevitably with using at the same time there is the possibility of interference. Given the price differential the ST + results are highly impressive. Club head speed was virtually identical, spin was close enough on virtually every shot, carry data (except for driver, but see below) was again close enough. Launch angle seemed to be consistently a little low on ST +, that is something they may be able to tweak with a software update. The main downsides are that club path & face to path data was a bit variable. A difference of a couple of degrees is not massive in absolute terms but a big variance in relative terms. That is an area where the unit definitely needs a bit of improvement. As for the driver carry, I think this may be a function of the slightly low launch angle. It would be interesting to see what the results would be if ST tweak the software to deliver a slightly higher launch angle, I suspect carry distances would become very close. Against that the one driver shot where you hit a really low spin shot I think I would trust the ST carry more than the GC Quad number, with a club head speed of just over 100 mph that sort of shot should, in real life, drop out of the air pretty quickly. IMO ST + is excellent, maybe a software update or 2 needed and if they can be a bit more accurate with club path and face to path they have a GC Quad killer

Pretty good assessment of the data. Unfortunately I’m having these missed shots somewhat regularly but it looks great aside from that.

appreciate the review. from what I remember about skytrak (im a happy mevo+ user) the platform has to be separate to remove any possible movement during the strike. new device doesn't appear to be an improvement from older units as far as no reads; i would be extremely frustrated paying that much for no reads.

Great Video! I have a ST+ for a week now. I cannot swing Driver in my garage ... so I have not tried the driver. For everything else, I almost never get any no reads. I feel it is very accurate for all shots (irons and hybrids). However I experimented with some 5 yards chip shots and it had a lot of no reads, just like it did on the video. 10yards, 20 yearsd no issue. Just the very short chips.

The short chips will only matter if you’re playing sim golf which hopefully it will work with GSPro soon.

You can prob move the skytrak back to give the quad some room. I can place the ball well in front of the laser and still register the shots. Great video btw!

You know when I was just messing around with Skytrak+ by itself I tried the ball about 1 ball out in each direction of the laser and they all registered. I just wanted to place the ball on the dot as best I could because I'm not sure how it might affect the data, it at all. Thanks!

What’s consensus on the club data with ST+? I worry that inaccurate club data is worse than no data, especially for someone using this to work on their swing…
@friendly_golfer5 ай бұрын
I certainly could be wrong but I've heard the ST+ estimates (not measures) most of the club data.

Good question. I haven't really done this and paid attention to the club data. It's rumored the SKYTRAK data is mostly all estimated (rather than measured) so might be interesting to see if they are far off.

Thanks for the time spent making this video. Really appreciate it. Can’t imagine how frustrating getting this to work. Looks like some distance discrepancies between the two, but overall do you like the Skytrak+? I hate that you can’t use the Skytrak+ for swing speed training even though it has doppler radar. Really not wanting to buy a low level monitor solely for speed training. I see you’re hitting off the SigPro Softy, has that become your mat of choice or are you rotating your two favorites?
@friendly_golfer Жыл бұрын
Glad it was helpful! I do like it and was impressed that it was very close in shot shape and numbers for the most part. I’m still figuring it out though. I would think maybe they could add swing speed training in a future firmware update. To me, it’s so close in price to a Launch Pro that I would have to recommend the Launch Pro. After a little more regular use of the player preferred I switched back to the sigpro softy and think that might be the one for me. Still haven’t officially decided I guess.

The ball for Skytrak should favor the right side or dot as you facing it... You basically putting Skytrak in a disadvantage by not putting ball in the best spot. Also, with Driver and long clubs, you even want the ball to be a little more to right of red dot.
@friendly_golfer Жыл бұрын
So as you’re addressing the ball, ball should be just right of the dot (with target being to the left)? I tried placing the ball directly on the dot as that’s what the manual said but I can experiment more.
@spaz2841 Жыл бұрын
For wedges ball should be left of dot, driver right of dot, all other clubs on the dot, at least that’s what has worked for me 3 years. The skytrak read every 7 iron you hit and only with wedge and driver had no reads. Seemed like when ball flight was matching, the club data was close as well so seems good. Thanks for doing this. The OG skytrak does have its fair share of no reads so I’m hoping the plus is a little better in this area.

Thanks for doing this test. On the 5 measured parameters of ballspeed, spin, launch, launch direction and sidespin these are very close especially on the first 4 which is good as launch direction can be the parameter skytrak struggles most with. Sidespin seems to be fairly consistently 400-500 more drawspin on Quad which seems reasonably consistent and you could factor in and maybe meet in middle (on mid iron 400 SS would equate to about 6 yds further left so not massive). I tested my skytrak against quad and found too 100-200 more drawspin on quad which is obviously fine and within tolerances. Overall then pretty good Obviously these 5 parameters get feed into the proprietry algorithm and there will be some slight diffs between the 2 because of this (most significantly quad seems to slightly inflate high launch low spin drivers which is fairly well known)
