very true what you said in the beginning. some people think converting an ABC car to coilovers is ruining it.. if you're a purist and want to keep everything original, then I respect that. but others of us just want peace of mind that a hydaulic line won't go out when you're 500 miles from home 😁😁

Agreed! Everyone owns their car for their own purpose. I own a car to drive and be trouble free. They hold onto these waiting for the value to go up….justifying keeping it original. For those who think this way…..they’ll be long gone before the value makes the maintenance worth it. But I respect either decision.

We're glad you have no problem with zoning (having a business in what looks like a residential zone). In some neighborhoods complaints would arise. Good video!

Wow. Respect bro. You’re awesome to share your journey with these ABC on our AMG all money gone potential money pits. My 06 S65 has been garaged for the past 7 years due to a bad abc line. Coil-over options were slim back then but I think I’m ready to get off the fence.

Hi thanks for sharing the work! Since you didn't show the "electronics lights" if they show/not, do you have to install a new electronic module to make the car read its new suspension? so no warning lights come up? Thx TNT

This car is a nightmare. Misfire on 2, battery drains, needs all lights replaced, top was disconnected to replace tail lights, broke the tiny plastic connector like it was a breadcrumb. Next is that suspension. again. e55 however, still.

Cannot you run a new that just runs along the bottom of the car? Just get a high pressure line made that is the right length. Just leave the old line in place.

If there’s a will, there’s a way. Doesn’t mean it will be a permanent solution, unless it meets OEM specs regarding fittings and pressure capabilities. But yes…..it’s possible. Until the next issue or failure occurs. It always will with ABC.

The 07-11 requires STAR to remove it from the module.

How well is this handling under spirited driving with no sway bar? I've been considering this. Not so much of cost, as rebuilding the blocks ($180 in parts) and replacing that high pressure line ($200 in labor from an independent shop) haven't been expensive, but I've been more interested in adjustability for harder driving through the mountain and coastal roads. I just can't see a 4200 lb car being happy without a heavy duty sway bar under there.

I can honestly say that with normal road conditions and driving, even spirited on normal roads….I’ve never once felt the need for swaybars. Even on my personal SL55, I installed Silvers Neomax with Swift springs for better handling and performance. It handles very well. The weight of the car, suspension geometry and the very low profile enables the car to function extremely well without swaybars. Will it benefit and be even more stable with swaybars? Yes. If you’re worried about lift from any corner (unloaded weight) then that’s some serious and extreme driving……..and swaybars will keep counter balance. All depends on your situation, circumstances and definition of ‘normal’ driving.

I love the coilovers. I currently have a set of Silvers with Swift springs on my SL55. No regrets. I had a standard set of Silvers on my SL500 for years. Amazing.

@@ChevySSFTW The spring doesn’t change how low it is. Just how the rebound and stiffness. The dampening is set 24 Front and 18 Rear on mine. 22/15 is a good starting point.

Are supposed to be able to reuse the rear lower shock mounting bolt or did i not recieve hardware like i should have? The hole through the neomax shock is to small for the factory bolt.

The rear factory Mercedes lower control bolt and nut is to be reused. The bolt will go through the Neomax strut lower mount without any issue. Make sure it is aligned properly.

I was able to remove my rear hydraulic struts without dropping the bottom control arm. Just placed a very flat piece of 1/2" steel across the top of the two upper links and set a screw type car jack on top of it and right on top above the bolting point for the one link that is attached above the center of the hub. The jack will push against the brake disk and the bottom of the car body, but not enough to break anything. I screwed the jack open, and it pushed the suspension down enough to remove the shock. I did have to take the rear torsion bar with the allen head bolt loose and all the bolts for the strut of course first. Also took the plunger of the struts. Saved a ton of time! Probably bad if your bushings are really worn.

@@sparky8767 Hmmmm…….ok. Nice suggestion. I remove the innermost bolt from the lower arm, where it connects to the body. Also the torsion bar outermost bolt. And the strut bolt. That’s it.
