Yeah I remember landing at Midway. I was told that it's one of the shorter runways. So,as soon as they clear the fence they try to set it down soon as possible! That was very smooth! My nephew (a SW pilot)has confirmed this! Great video as always!!😃👍

Wow... great scenery on this flight. I admit that I was looking for Ree Drummond's Ranch (The Pioneer Woman). Never been to Tulsa or MDW airport. Never been to OK for that matter. Been to Chicago a few times though. Yes, I did go up to the Sears (Willis) Skydeck. Anyhow, the best part about this video: no jet lag this time to rest up from.

Man, Southwest’s “777” looks like it needs a paint job bad, but it probably won’t get another one since it will probably be retired before. Reminds me of N566WN I flew on back in August. You could hardly read the tail number on the back. 😬
@JoshuasPHXAviation2 жыл бұрын
Excellent job as always Skylite.👌. Also let me ask you something. Do you have a favorite Southwest Airlines livery? If so which one?
@sla312 жыл бұрын
Indeed I do. To be fair, there are quite a few Southwest special liveries that I'm fond of, or that have extra meaning for me. For example, I have lived in Kansas, near Joplin Missouri, for 26 years. Kansas will always be my home, but I also have close ties to Missouri having lived so close to the state border for so long. I consider Joplin, Missouri to be my true home airport and Kansas City is another of my home airports. One side of my family has roots in St. Louis and my Grandmother still lives there. I've spent many holidays over the years in the St. Louis area. So, even though Kansas is my true home, I'm quite fond of Missouri One, since Southwest doesn't have a Kansas One. I also love their classic "desert gold" livery, and I'm beyond excited for the new 737-8 Max to be introduced with the classic livery. Freedom One is also great. Can you believe I haven't been able to spot it in real life yet??? With all the flying I do, I've yet to cross paths with it. I'm also quite fond of Triple Crown One now that I've flown on it across the entire country. All of those.... but one that doesn't exist anymore will always be my favorite Southwest livery.... As a kid, growing up in the 90's and 00's, developing a love for aviation, there was something else I loved. The oceans and marine life. In particular, I was fascinated by Orca. My all time favorite Southwest livery is Shamu One. They actually had three at one point, but any of them counted. In fact, it's one of my favorite liveries of all time, regardless of airline. Now as a kid, I didn't understand how SeaWorld had gone about getting their Orca, and frankly you don't think about that stuff as a kid. I wold watch Free Willy over and over as a kid, and it wasn't until I was older and watched it again that I realized it was basically the Black Fish of it's day. Today I much older, more educated, and believe it's best to view Orca in the natural habitats from a safe distance. I believe they shouldn't be held in captivity and Shamu One, Two, and Three were basically advertisements for SeaWorld to get people to come see captive Orca. Southwest was the official airline of SeaWorld at the time. So now, I think those liveries were introduced for the wrong reasons, but that doesn't stop me from loving them. They were at the top of my "spotting list" as a kid, and I can still remember every single time I was lucky enough to spot them. I have the models of them today sitting right next to my desk, and for years I had said that Alaska Airlines should introduce a new "Orca themed" livery promoting them in their natural habitat. Being based in Seattle and having several resident Orca pods right in their backyard in Puget Sound, it only made sense to me. Personally I envisioned it more like their Salmon themed 737, where the entire fuselage would be taken up by the Orca like Shamu One. But regardless, I was beyond thrilled when they did indeed introduce an Orca themed livery on a new 737-9 Max named "West Coast Wonders." N932AK, but I'm sure you've seen it. Anyway, I'm rambling now. You asked a very good question that I cared very much about, so that's what you get haha.

Since January of this year I have had the great pleasure of running this channel as my full time job. So, you could say that means I take these flights for my job. Until January, when I started working on this full time, I was also a full time aircraft rescue firefighter and that didn't require any travel. The bottom line is that I started this channel 7 years ago, and at no point have I ever traveled for work and just filmed everything as I went. I have paid for everything you see on here out of my own pocket and it has all been filmed on my own free time. I love traveling and I love aviation. And 7 years ago, on a whim I decided to start this channel mainly because I had started filming my own flights, for my own purposes, and I was running out of hard drive space. KZbin was basically free unlimited storage. It then quickly morphed into something that other people actually enjoyed watching and I made the decision to keep at it. I'm not rich, I don't come from old money, and as I just said, I don't have other people or some company paying for all my flights. That said, after going to college and getting a decent job I was able to live comfortably enough to be able to travel for fun on my days off, and I decided it would be wrong of me to not share my travels and love of aviation with other people who weren't fortunate enough to be able to do the same. And that's kind of how the channel has developed into what it is today. I was just a kid who loved aviation, who is now not a kid anymore, who wanted to share it with everyone else. And this is why I really appreciate everyone who takes the time to watch, comment, like and subscribe. I have invested a lot of my life and money into this channel over the years, and every view and comment helps!

That was a pretty smooth landing for Midway. I have to ask; did it put a strain on your arm trying to hold the camera still during landing? Every time I land at MDW, the plane brakes VERY hard on the famously short runway, and my arms are sore for a few minutes afterwards from struggling to hold the camera still.
@sla312 жыл бұрын
Oh it’s not too bad anymore. I’ve gotten pretty used to holding the camera steady, even at airports like this with shorter runways. I’ll tell you what though, I just had a landing in Burbank, that was so rough it was not only hard to keep my hand steady, it caused the camera to lose focus haha.

Is anyone else noticing the amount of scratches and wear and tear on this plane on the outside?
@sla312 жыл бұрын
Well, this aircraft was one of the earliest aircraft to receive the livery you see on it. Which was introduced at the end of 2014. There are photos of it wearing this livery as early as the first quarter of 2016, which means it likely had the livery applied sometime in 2015. That means this plane has been wearing this paint for going on eight years. There’s a reason why airlines often change their liveries every 10 years or so. Paint on aircraft doesn’t usually last much longer than 7 to 9 years. So, the aircraft have to be repainted anyways. Which is why airlines often introduced new liveries every decade or so. Regardless of whether Southwest changes their livery, this aircraft is going to be due for a repaint soon if it’s not retired. I say if it’s not retired, because it’s one of the oldest active 737s Southwest is still operating.
