This is flight 12 of 13 from my recent journey around the world. In September/October, I set out to circumnavigating the Earth, and after 9 days, 8 airlines, 13 flights, and over 24,000 miles, I eventually landed back in Kansas City after visiting San Francisco, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Tokyo, Osaka, Bangkok, Doha, London, Dublin, Munich and Newark. Over the next week I'll be posting these flights in order, so you too can take this incredible journey with me! If the video doesn't have this bit at the top of the description, and in the pinned comment, it is not part of the around the world flights. Outstanding!! Loved taking a flight with you on the A340.....and it included a meal that I would have no trouble completely eating. LH is flying an A340-300 from FRA to DTW during the winter months and many afternoons I see it fly over my neighborhood on final approach to DTW...never get tired of seeing that aircraft. You mentioned in one of your replies that you would like to take a journey to locations only in the Southern Hemisphere. Just planning that adventure would drive me nuts. Australia and New Zealand would be an epic trip by itself.
@sla31
@sla31 Жыл бұрын
Ah yes, the 300 variant. Surprisingly, despite the 300 still being more common than the 600, I've only ever flown on the A340-600. I wonder if I can find any to fit in on the potential around the world trip round 2 haha. I'm struggling to think of any southern hemisphere operators of the A340 off the top of my head though. I'll have to research it!

I thought the 747 was the only acft to have interchangeable tires betw the mains and nose gear. Appears the A340 does as well, 1:20. I'll bet that wait after landing for an open gate was maddening. Passengers seemed patient in spite of no updates from the cockpit. What's your opinion of LH service?
@sla31
@sla31 Жыл бұрын
Personally, I was just happy we made good enough time that we still landed when there was some light left in the skies. The performance of this flight was kind of all over the place, but I'd have 50% of the time it took a long enough delay that it landed in the dark. So, for me, I didn't really care how long it took to get to the gate after I got that beautiful sunset on approach haha. I don't think many people had connections that late in the day anyway, so that probably led to most people's indifference on the tarmac delay. As for Lufthansa, I've now flown them three times on long haul flights in the last year or so. And every time I'm enjoyed the flights. The seats were comfortable enough, the food was descent, and the crews were great. Now, it wasn't the same over level of ANA whom I've also flown twice in the last year and was just named the third best overall airline in the world for 2023, but it was still great service.

I notice flying into & out of Paris, all the land that farmed & all the houses seem bunched up in clusters…is there reason for this? Is it on purpose?
@sla31
@sla31 Жыл бұрын
You know, I don't know the exact reasons, but I suspect it has to do with the time period all of those towns and areas were developed. Of course, they're all much older than anything you'd see in the US. Things were different back when those cities and towns were developed. The way land was used and what people needed were different back then.

Under seat power 🔌 helps for such long recording? Haven't overheat smartphone?
@sla31
@sla31 Жыл бұрын
I use my own batteries. I travel with multiple 20,000 mAh batteries. They're stronger and more reliable than the in seat power. And no, as long as you sit on the opposite side of the sun, then the camera won't overheat, even if plugged in. The problem with overheating comes when you are looking right at the sun. The windows on planes have two layers, and when the sun beats down directly on the camera though two layered windows, it causes the camera to get extremely hot and it will overheat. But, if you're on the side opposite the sun, and it's not beating down on the camera, then it'll be fine.

Do you use a phone holder/tripod on the wall/window to record or just balance the camera in some way?
@sla31
@sla31 Жыл бұрын
I do not. One of the things that sets my videos apart, and the reason why there is never any vibrations or jitters in the footage, is because I do not use any type of mount or tripod that connects to the plane in any way. I hold the camera by hand, even on long flights like this, to ensure I get the smoothest, highest quality, final footage. I keep the camera completely operated from the plane the entire time. Yes, my arm gets tired. Yes, sometimes people ask me what I'm doing. Yes, I've tired many many different types of mounts over the last 8 years, including vibration dampening drone mounts. No, none of them have ever worked. There, that usually covers any followups as well 😂. Thanks for watching my friend! I appreciate it!

Warum werden so lange Flüge immer über oder knapp hinter dem Flügel gefilmt. werde ich nie verstehen. Das Video selber ist schön, aber der Flüge frisst 2/3 weg. Schade.
@sla31
@sla31 Жыл бұрын
😩… You have no idea how tired I am of comments like this, and how much it masks me want to just stop posting videos altogether… I spend tons of my own money taking and filming these flights… Unlike every other person who has ever taken this flight, I put in tons of work and effort to film it so that it can be shared and enjoyed by everyone. I don’t have to do any of this. I could just do what every over person does and keep it all to myself… But I don’t, i share every flight I take with anyone else who wants to see it… I wish people would stop finding any little thing to complain about and just enjoy the fact that I put the time and effort in, unlike every other person who as ever taken this flight, to film it and share it with everyone else… And what didn’t oh expect on a 9 hour video titled “full flight?” That’s what a full flight is… the entire flight. And you know, some of us can’t afford to fly business class, which takes up the first 1/3 of this aircraft. So to get a better view of the engines… Well frankly, I can’t afford that.

@sla31
@sla31 Жыл бұрын
I only mentioned business because on this specific aircraft is because it takes up so much space. Space that I would rather sit in to get that awesome view of those four engines. The reason why I didn’t sit farther back is for two reasons. First, this was the first time I flew this audacity and I thought this seat was slightly farther behind the wing that it was. And ascend, I film by hand 🤚🏻. I don’t use mounts like most people, because they transfer too many vibrations into the lens of the camera, which gives the footage a wobble of warping effect. I do this to make sure the video is as high quality as possible. And frankly, it’s a lot harder to keep the camera steady by hand when you have to twist your wrist to help keep the wing in frame. So I can appreciate your points, but at the same time, I do almost everything to make sure my videos are as high quality as possible.

What's the small section of the flaps that never lines up?
@sla31
@sla31 8 ай бұрын
I'd love to answer your question, but I'm not exactly sure which part you're talking about. Are you talking about the control surface towards the end of the wing that moves more often and isn't hanging down when the faps are deployed? That's the aileron which is a separate control surface from the flaps. It controls the roll of the aircraft left or right. It receives direct inputs from the pilots, whereas the flaps are simply set at a certain level and then are retracted once the aircraft is airborne. If you're referring to something else you'll have to try to describe where exactly on the wing you're looking at. Thanks for watching my friend!

Having ads in the middle kinda ruins it
@sla31
@sla31 8 ай бұрын
I wish I didn't have to put ads on them, but that's the way it is... The ads are the only reason I can make these videos... If there weren't ads, the videos wouldn't exist... I spend a considerable amount of money, my own money, just to make these so everyone else can enjoy them, and I can't afford to take these flights and not get anything back. And you know what? Even if I went in right now to this video's editor page, and demonetized it, KZbin would still put ads on it. KZbin is going to put ads on this video whether I want them there or not. The only thing I'd accomplish by demonetizing this video would be that KZbin would then get 100% of the money from the ads. All I'd be doing is hurting myself. KZbin is going to put ads on it no matter what. The only way to watch any video on KZbin without ads, is to pay for KZbin premium. So can we please not complain about the the ads? It's the only way I recoup some of the 10's of thousands of dollars I spend to every year making these videos, and KZbin is going to put ads on them even if I turned them off...
