Tribute to Grigori

All the lines I could find from the dragon in Dragon's Dogma. There's no PC version (thanks, Capcom), so it's not possible to mine the audio on its own, so sound effects and music will be present. It adds to the effect, at least. If a PC version ever comes out I'll make a full compilation of all of Grigori's lines.

@@Necrotaku999 for real. I feel like dragons have been commodified in a lot of media. Whereas in D. Dogma, a true dragon like Grigori is rare, wise, and ominous. He is wise yet equally apathetic and even seemingly cruel. His power and presence command your attention and his character and voice acting create an unique aura. In the grand sceheme of the game Grigori actually has fairly little screentime, and even disappears for like half the main plot. Yet he is arguably one of the game's most iconic features, despite not being around for most of the playthrough. I like this interpretation of dragons, powerful and eerie beings the regular mortal characters cant quite fully understand... opposed to some dime-a-dozen cheap enemy you can farm after getting some gear upgrades at level 30.

The player character is NOT Grigori. Grigori is an arisen from long ago who slew his dragon and fought the Seneshal, but lost. As he lay dying, he was cast down upon Gransys, turned into a dragon himself to find an Arisen stronger than he was. In a sense, his fate is tragic, he was likely a hero that rose to power, when temped with an easy way out, he refused, when offered a quiet life instead, he refused, and for all his sacrifices, his reward was death and servitude as a dragon. It's even plausible that he doesn't wish to perform this role, but the Seneshal has re-made his mind to fit the role.

Though he's unique. He's kinda anti climactic when you battle him for the last time. Unlike Grigori. Skyrim, in my opinion, is better, But the final battles, Really differ Like Grigori is hard, has 3 stages, a long build up and an ending that you didn't expect While alduin was a 5 minute fight.

Shinjiro Aragaki Agreed and on top of that Grigori has the weight of a genuinely interesting philosophy behind him, he preaches that bare matter in all it's shapes has no value compared to the potency of one's spirit or one's will, which can only be tempered through terrible strife and hardship. Meanwhile Alduin and Archdemon and everybody else's dragons are like "Grr I'ma Dragon, lets fight because you are a hero'

All of his dialogue is fantastic and some of his sayings are quite versatile in everyday conversation if you know when to work them in. 'The rambling of an upjumped zealot make for tedious listening' If you use the phrase 'you cannot gainsay my terms are more than reasonable' in a conversation it sounds pretty cool.

that is a dream rpg game. Skyrim levels of sandbox, Dragon Age levels of story and dialogue, and Dragon's dogma combat, companion and magic system. And cherry on top a demonic dragon with a sexy voice leading a horde of corrupted creatures as the final boss.

I dunno. I always interpreted "Grigori" as a title, and a fitting one given... well given where we find the dragons come from. If Grigori is merely a title for the dragon, I don't believe he ever told us his original name, so his credits would have to simply be "the dragon".

@@proudlarry8225 I believe he does reveal it as his name. After he takes your heart he speaks in Wyrmspeak (broken latin) and he says his name is Grigori. Also everyone refers to him as the Dragon, but Salvation and himself.

All of the OLDER dragons and dragonkin speak latin. When the new wave arrives, they speak the same language as our Arisen. And it all makes sense once we realize how dragonkind are made.

It's also worth noting that it is the Grigori who gifts you the Godsbane dagger in its final moments, not the Seneschal. The dragon wanted to give you a tool of defiance.

@@proudlarry8225 Well in the initial game, he didn't so it's a gameplay tool, not a story device. However, Grigori's last words are a reminder that you can use your life... or cast it away. He specifically tells you to remember that because he's still trying to get you to end the cycle. And yes, he does it unwillingly. He feels ambivalent toward it all by this point, having been alive long enough to wish for death, much as the Seneshal. The relieved sigh as he dies gives that away. His role is done, he's free, not it's up to you.

His deeper voice for me ruins Grigori presences for me because out of all dragons his voice has a clam but threatening tone which really makes him one of my favorite dragons because most evil dragons have a very deep tone in their voices.

Spoiler Alert: I find it very cool that once you beat the game fully and enter new game + you find out that you as arisen actually are Grigori. It all makes so much more sense once you replay the game a second time from the perspective that Grigori is actually yourself as the Seneschal

The arisen becomes the dragon when you best your dragon but lose to the seneschal, if you go out of your way to lose in that fight you get an alternate ending where you become a dragon and the beginning sequence ensues, of course it eventually makes you reload your save but still. Grigori is an arisen from long past cursed by the sensechal to live as a dragon beckoning a stronger arisen to best both him and the seneschal
