OMG Arpon and Marc Antoine! I will miss you guys so much this summer! Your channel is the best hockey channel on KZbin, period. Thoughtful, insightful, funny, and informative… Can’t wait until next season. Les Canadiens sont la! Go Habs Go! (A fan in Connecticut since Dryden gave Espo and Orr what for in 1971… )

I realize a lot has to hit for this to actually work out, but I low-key feel like they already have a championship-contending team in the system. It’s just three to five years away from doing it. I remember the Habs winning The Cup in 1965. I've never been more fascinated, intrigued and excited about this club in decades. I didn't really understand how the team of the 70s was built at the time. It was a different era of drafting and contracts, but they did something right back then. This feels like something right.

Imagine Kane showing old tricks to the habs youngsters who can actually emulate or even replicate them. Glad they sticking to the plan. I'm so enthusiastic about Demidov. Watch replays or highlights and look closely at his skating/stance. Unique skill. Figure skater smooth too. So refreshing since we don't usually get to have nice things but HuGo be stacking them thicc talents.

Signing Slav isn't a risk at all, if he produces well then the contract is good. If Slav is terrible the contract doesn't matter because the rebuild is screwed anyways.

Team stats last season showed that goals against was where the Habs were extremely bad. Scoring wasn't great but it was actually close to teams that made the playoffs. If they somehow improve their defense then they'll see a significant rise in the standings. But Habs haven't done anything to improve their D and are solely relying on the kids to improve. They'll probably score more goals with a healthy Dach. A bounceback from Anderson could also help a fair bit. Habs will probably make a bigger push for quality UFAs next summer since Armia, Dvorak, Savard, Evans contracts will be finished.

basu missing the point that Godin was making. San Jose and Chicago were horrible last year but they made moves to get better...will they surpass montreal? no. but they probably bought 4 to 5 wins more than last year...that's about 10 pts. now the habs were 20 to 30 points ahead of those 2 teams, but the hawks and sharks increased their chances of beating more teams next year. teams like Florida, Colorado and Dallas did nothing to improve their rosters so considering teams below them improved its conceivable those top teams lose points while teams around the habs gain points. all Godin is saying is that there's a finite amount of pts that's available to be had in a season. good chance the habs don't move up much in the standings due to the activity of other teams.

Montreal will be better next season...no doubts about it. Just guys like Dvorak, Armia, Anderson and Dach will likely have better seasons than last year...so they don't need any free agents for the time being. We are still rebuilding but...near the end of it !!!
@AltJon10
@AltJon10 13 күн бұрын
Yeah exactly. The chances are greater they'll pass us next year even if they're still very low. And like Utah, Columbus, Ottawa - these teams around the Habs are the ones they have to be better than to find themselves maybe 20th in the league next year like some are expecting. They are less likely to do that today than they were a few days ago. Plain and simple. Thats all Godin is saying and he's 100% right. It's not necessarily a bad thing. But this expectation for the Habs to improve their position in a meaningful way isnt really supported by anything right now. Dach coming back I guess? Hoping for Dvorak to have a bounce back year? But then there are major subtractions too like losing Monahan...having a top 5 pick again next year is not that unlikely.

@powers1500 yes there's internal growth and a healthy dach. but the point is its talking like you're in a vacuum when there's internal growth and healthy player returns for surrounding teams as well. as I do like montreals core pieces, and I do see some improvements in the standings it's ignorant to suggest teams that dipped into free agency didn't expedite the process for improvement. now willl many fas be ineffective? sure. will some players regress negatively due to age or just growing pains? sure. but from a visual stand point habs will likely still remain a bottom 10 team..and is that fine? absolutely as long as our core take positive steps which is kind of the reason why the habs are doing what they're doing.. it's all long term building.
@y3ee3e
@y3ee3e 13 күн бұрын
@AltJon10 yup you get it. every team has internal growth that we expect our habs to have...it's ignorant to suggest only habs will take steps in that regard. when surrounding teams make ufa signings they're taking deliberate steps to improve their roster. these teams are likely taking wins an points from the teams that didn't dip into free agency for at least the short term. I'm not saying you need free agency to win the cup. but I am saying to make small visual gains year to year adding quality talent should make your team better.

Love your guys intellect We need Laine if anybody can do it and make it work it’s Montreal. We have to take chances not always playing it safe to supposedly protect some of our young guys and Culture. We already have the culture let’s get setup for 2 years time. In 2 years time can you imagine a top 6 of Slaf Suzuki Caufield Demidov Dach Laine then Newhook Roy Beck Hage and see if Armia and Anderson can come back. Use Matheson picks and prospects to trade for Laine.

I’m sorry but did Arpon just say at the 34:30 mark that “after Cole Hutson was picked on day 2, the Habs somewhat suddenly made Lane Hutson available”??? As in available for a trade???

I agree with Aapron, stay the course in one year, the Habs will know their exact need, San Jose , and Chicago and Columbus will not make the playoffs but will not be as bad as last yr, and will be middling., and miss out on another high draft pick. Only Utah, New Jersey, Nashville, everyone else you can argue went sideways, or got worse.

Almost all the free agent forwards talked about seem alot more like roadblocks to the young guys and stop gaps ,we need 1 more tip 6 player and that will vome via trade in my opinion , and it will be someone that no one is talking about , ie newhook and dach .

How does? 3 Western bottom teams like (maybe Utah) but more so Chicago, and Sanjose? Affect the Habs in playing meaningful games in March and pushing for Wildcard... Buffalo, Ottawa. Philly are the teams you guys should be looking at... what did they do a FA day to increase there chances of taking a standing spot from the Habs. Not Chicago... that affects the Overall standing but not the Wild cars spot... Only argument there is did one of those teams take your guy... Did Chicago take one of your guys that would make the Habs better???

Arpon, no you definitively are not getting MA point. You kept saying Montreal has those guys. They finished 5th WITH those guys, the other teams finished where they finished WITHOUT those guys, and now they have them. On paper at least, they might have improved their lineup, Montreal has not.
