This video got me thinking… what if you built a team around slaking that consisted mostly of regenerator Pokémon who could pivot in some way. Cyclizar with shed tail would go hard here. Chilly reception slowking too. Something hard hitting with eject pack. Maybe a red card Pokémon. Obviously some hazard control, maybe a sticky webber. I’m not good enough at Pokémon yet to know if something like this would work, but what do people think? What would a team like that look like? Haydunn, care to take a crack at it?

Slaking is my second favourite normal type next to dubwool so a team around keeping him alive would be amazing. I always believe that if slaking got the move feint his entire competitive useage would shoot up significantly as stab feint would bust open protect stalling him and now the game would become will he attack or feint. Yawn is a great final move on slaking I use atm because if people switch in a bulky pokemon or faster pokemon to try take slaking down you just yawned them and made that a risk to stay in now

This strat is over 20 years old. It still works. Though back in Emerald, we only had Hyper Beam. And yes, gen Z and younger, back then, Hyper Beam did physical damage. :P (and also emotional damage, since Slaking had like the 3rd highest stats of any mon ever. Also Doubles with Trace Skill Swap Gardevoir (Dusclops worked too, but it didn't have Trace so you couldn't steal an ability with it). You also gave it EQ and Shadow Ball (cuz that was a physical type too) and then filler, usually some sort of coverage or utility move. In doubles it'd be Protect (because in doubles you really need to run protect a lot, and skill swap's the only way to make Slaking work in doubles). Happy to see a 3rd gen mon like this still kicking ass today.

I used to pair an Assault Vest Slaking up with a Skill Swapping Covert Cloak Pure Power Medicham. I'd then switch out Medicham for a Banded Landorus or a support Sinistcha.

The slakoth line was always my gen 3 favorite. Fun fact, in the story mode, slaking is an absolute beast with no flaw ! all you gotta do is use an item half its turns, either to heal him, or buff his stats : That's what he's meant to do (hence the hero's father normal gym, that is based on...using items) Or you can switch him when he's done one shooting the first enemy Also, best hyper beam user in the game (he loses a turn ANYWAY) AND his preevolution vigoroth has such scary stats that he easily counts as a legit final form, like a linoone or a persian Love these lazy ass dudes

Whenever I get Slaking in randbats it never disappoints. Using Double Edge with a Choice Band it doesn't really feel that different from other banded Pokemon that you switch in for a revenge kill then switch out. Also has access to good coverage to make Ghosts think twice.

I believe eject button switches you out when you get attacked. Exeggutor had an eject pack, which switches you out when one of your stats is lowered, so the special attack drop from leaf storm or draco meteor activates it. I don’t know if slaking gets close combat, but that could be a good move to switch out on.
