I don’t freak out until they start going over 20” lol. There’s lots of bass in the 17-20” range on this river system though. Size and numbers on this trip were comparable to an average day fishing a stretch of the river this time of year. It was just a lot more fun catching them this way!

This video is from a trip a couple weeks ago and I was wishing I had grabbed a picture like that for a thumbnail. Hadn’t seen any mayflies since then until yesterday when I was pulling myself through some thick vegetation on the river and saw one single mayfly sitting on a blade of grass. I had to grab it for a quick picture lol. It was slightly smaller and more yellowish than the ones that were out in the video but I figured I’d go with it.

Great video on the toughness of the bait, one would wonder if you could Texas rig it and punch them pockets around those wolf packs? You may have to change to 30lb braid to cut through the vegetation.
@ndyakangler6 жыл бұрын
I’m sure you could Texas rig one. The smallies attention was pretty much all at the surface though with the mayflies buzzing around. They’d wise up after I’d catch one or two out of a school and I tried switching to a jig or wacky worm a few times to catch one more out of the group but they had no interest.

This one reminds me of the King of the Hill episode when they were unknowingly using crack for bait. By the end of the day the bass were jumping into the boat and following them around the lake. That lure is almost like cheating, they are powerless to resist when it hits the water.

True. I live n pc fl and i for large mouth and i may fish in small bay for specs or reds and small ponds i seen one for like 800 that had room on the deck and storage and holders and what not is that a good price and would a ten' or 12' be best thanks
@ndyakangler6 жыл бұрын
800 could be a decent deal depending on what kayak it is. If you know the exact model I’d google it and see how much a new one is for comparison. I’d go with a 12ft if you’re able to transport and store it. A 12 will paddle straighter and more efficiently than a 10.

Late August and September is when I hammer them on the spook. Earlier in the summer the smallies generally seem to like a faster retrieve like the Whopper Plopper.
@kimehunt45016 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Funny you say that I've been throwing the plopper more after watching your videos on that with better results. Your videos give me confidence to throw different things. Be safe.

@whatdoyouthinktodd2 жыл бұрын
How many days a week do you fish or do you just take it day by day depending on how good the fish were biting for your video?

It all depends on the weather. Usually we get a few days a week where it’s decent enough to get out during summer. The wind blows a lot here though and it makes it tough to try to fish and film.

So I have a question about these particular nekko baits rigged.. How many fish caught per plastic rigged this way?
@ndyakangler4 жыл бұрын
As many as you can catch in a day! I’ve used this rig a half dozen times and have caught well over 100 fish on it. I’ve only had the plastic rip and fall off once. It’s tough to say how many I can catch on one Hellgrammite, I’ll usually pull it off at the end of the day and toss it on a jig on a later trip.
@allencummings62854 жыл бұрын
