The sign of a truly iconic guitarist is one whose sound is so unmistakable that they can handle another iconic guitarist’s song and leave their own mark on it. That’s what I love about this performance. People in the comments bagging on Slash because he doesn’t sound like Hendrix are missing the joy of this imo. It would be boring to just hear someone play it exactly like Hendrix. What’s the point? Slash doesn’t play guitar like Hendrix - he doesn’t do jazz chord variations and incorporate his thumb for barre chords. He’s a very different style of player but one whose sound is so distinct. What he did here was wonderful - he honored Jimi by playing a legendary song but doing so in his own manner, and I’m sure Hendrix would have loved to have seen it rather than just see someone generically mimic his own exact approach to the tune. The fact that Slash was able to tackle such an iconic solo but still very much leave his own mark on it is a testament to his signature as a guitarist - whether you care for him or not, there’s just no denying you can tell it’s a Slash solo within a few seconds, and for me that’s all a guitarist could really ask for.

I've followed Steve Winwood all my life - he and I are the same age. I remember being blown away hearing him with Spencer Davis in 1967, thinking that his voice was going to dominate rock and roll for decades. It didn't, and I'm still baffled. His career must be the greatest "What if?" in the history of popular music. What a voice!
@robsim4692 Жыл бұрын
"The Greatest What if Story in Rock and Roll" Winwood was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Traffic in 2004.[1] In 2005, Winwood was honoured as a BMI Icon at the annual BMI London Awards for his "enduring influence on generations of music makers." In 2008, Rolling Stone ranked Winwood No. 33 in its 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. He also has 2 Grammy's! Damn shame he failed to make it in the music business isn't it?
