Ya it’s to bad that Steven Adler was just so far gone and burnt out that when GnR went out on that enormous tour a few years back they thought he just wasn’t ready to go out and play the set every night. But at least he got to play a couple times on the tour. It was just sad because he really practiced a lot to try and get his chops back up but it just didn’t work out lol

Slash is very lucky he got to live his dream while most of us couldn't.
@route66664 жыл бұрын
Well tbh most people don’t try. Slash isn’t necessary lucky. He used to spend nearly 12 hours a day playing a guitar in his teens. Most people won’t ever try to do that because it’s “too hard” Slash sacrificed a lot and it payed off. He didn’t get lucky.
@cheothegeo27424 жыл бұрын
You think luck was all it was? U think he was just handed his dream and this amazing life? This is a guy who spent most of his youth homeless and penniless. Why do so many musicians develop alcohol or drug problems? B/c that’s how desperate and hopeless things get when playing your own music is all you wanna do. There’s a lot of idle existential time and it gets to a point where getting fucked up is the only way to deal with yourself. You’re choosing to live this hard life as a destitute couch surfer hoping that someday maybe a record company throws you a life line. These are guys who were willing to die as junkies and alcoholic nobodies in pursuit of a mythical rockstar dream that they think will make their lives better and solve all their problems but actually warped their entire reality and made their lives a whole lot worse. this rockstar dream almost killed him 3 times. The only luck I see is that he actually lived through and overcame all of that shit to still be able to support himself doing his own thing today and he managed to find 3 musicians and 1 psychotic singer that just so happened to have such amazing musical chemistry together. But he fucking paid for it. He earned it and a life that looks perfect and glamorous will never feel perfect or glamorous when you’re the one who has to live it.

Once in a blue moon, we get to see a really good guitarist... But once in a lifetime, we get to see Slash... One of the most iconic if not the best guitarist the world has ever had the privilege to listen and to watch. Certainly a hero of mine and undoubtedly the man that made me look at a guitar as an art not just an instrument. An icon... A legend... I'm so happy that he is still playing and producing music for the future generations to hear... Slash is not just a name, he's a legend... Congratulations on the Hall of Fame Awards... Truly deserving... I still have the "Appetite For Destructions" album on cassette tape... One of my prized possession... :)

Many years ago I was studying to earn my PhD in School Psychology from Loyola in Chicago. At the time, psychologists were studying problem solving and creativity. I learned that there was no correlation between drug use and creativity- which is a really positive thing. Drugs don't increase creativity. That whole thing is just a myth that so many people buy into. They think the more drugs they take the more creative it will make them. But it just doesn't fly. I think that's what Slash was trying to communicate here.

I find his interviews very interesting to listen to. He presents as a very personable, sensitive and intelligent person. From what little I know about him, it sounds as if he has been through a lot. He is quite a survivor in his own right. I like what he said about taking the energy he was putting into drinking and channeling it into music and other far more productive areas. It's amazing how much energy is wasted on certain behaviors that are so unproductive. It just goes to prove that even if you are very successful (in terms of fame and fortune), there are still many challenges in life that one has to deal with or overcome. Congratulations to him for being able to do that. I'm sure with his level of fame and fortune it wasn't very easy and must be a bit of a day-to-day struggle. But he appears so focused. I admire that kind of behavior. It's very positive and I think it rubs off in a positive way on other people.

I agree James, they absolutely do fuel egos. The war on people who use needs to end. Those who want help stopping should receive way better help than what is offered now. Drugs destroy bank accounts. They give and take health and relationships.
