Aaron reviews the iPhone 5, the newest flagship smartphone from Apple. Featuring an Apple A6 dual-core CPU clocked at 1 GHz, the iPhone 5 sports a 4-inch Retina Display (326 ppi), 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD recording, 1,440 mAh battery, 4G LTE, and iOS 6. It's available now at Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint in 16, 32, and 64 GB flavors. For iPhone fans, it's a nice upgrade - and overall, it's a high-end phone that's worth recommending to many prospective buyers. But keeping the big picture in mind, iPhone no longer commands the wide lead it once had in the smartphone market. There are a ton of great high-end Android and Windows Phone devices that offer equally compelling value propositions, such as the Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X.
Is iPhone 5 worth your hard-earned money, or should you look at other industry heavyweights? Part 2 of 2.

Aaron I think you hit the nail on the head at the end of the video. People have to get away from the mentality that apple is the end all be all of cell phones. I'm still dumbfounded til this day how they managed to sell any iPhone 4s when it was clearly just a "hey we release a phone every year and we aren't prepared so let's just throw something together and release it"

No, you've mistaken me. I see and agree with your point, however both the iPhones and the Vu have 4:3 aspect ratios, not 2:3. (2:3 is still more rectangle than 4:3)

No, Google Wallet is for actual transactions, PassBook is like having a list of gift-codes& frequent flier miles. PassBook doesn't actually interact with another device, if I'm not mistaken. Google Wallet replaces credit/debit cards in most stores, you can tap your phone to the register and it pays automatically, but does not keep track of frequent flier miles&gift-codes. Hope this helps :)

When it comes to battery it is all about how the OS manages the resources. So if the OS manages its resources in an efficient manner you don't need the giant battery and then you can reduce the items signature. I used my iphone 5 pretty heavily thru the day and I went from 4:30AM to 9:30PM and had 15% batt life left. That works for me, but as a big Apple fan I can't see going wrong with picking up the Galaxy S3. Both of these phones are a good purchase.

When the iPhone was revealed in 2007 apple said it was about 5 years in-front of the competition. Which they were correct. Now its 5 years in the future from 2007 and I believe they didn't change enough to keep the iPhone 5 years in the future

I'm not sure why the GS3 takes so long to charge, I mean, on ParanoidAndroid Rom the charging dramatically improves, 30 mins on charge gives me 50% at least. But you're right, stock rom on GS3 is soooo slow.

Saying which one has surpassed the other is very subjective. Certain things like widgets and turn by turn nav, yes android is lightyears ahead. But if you go things such as overall OS fluidity or hardware design, the iphone has always been on the cutting edge, while it took android until now to finally nail os fluidity . Its all opinion

Google now doesn't set up appointments, start timers, post to facebook/twitter; hell, most of the time Google now doesn't even read answers to me. Google Now is more of Google search with voice and some enhanced elements, but Siri does more than Google Now. I know because I own the Galaxy Nexus on Sprint (which just got Jelly Bean, btw) and the iPhone 5 on AT&T. And in terms of speed, they're about the same 99% of the time for me. Most times Siri's faster because of AT&T LTE vs Sprint 3G.
@MysticalMastodon
@MysticalMastodon 12 жыл бұрын
The thing is Maps isn't half-assed. Apple had 2 small teams working on Maps for 5 years. So the application isn't perfect, no Maps application, web app or otherwise was perfect at launch. Those scratches are a result of fast manufacturing. Until the iPhone 5, this was a nonissue because demand was lower. Siri, too, was in development for years. It's beta and is more functional than S-Voice and Google Now.

I used to think the Iphone was the best looking phone out there. But this past year ive come to the decision that smaller phones (Iphone size) are starting to look outdated. I understand that its "Apple's look" some ppl like small phones, but its not as good looking as before. Phones of the S3 and OneX size are more of my taste now. Iphone is still a great phone, dont get me wrong. But it would look better as a 4.5-8 ish inch phone. Just imo. The Iphone would look more "beast" as kids would say.

Bro, Apple bought 2 mapping companies that I know of to build the Maps app. To convince anyone that the application is half-assed you need to prove that the main function for the everyday user is a subpar experience. I just did a search for Area 51 and Maps says it's in Nevada. No, that's Motorola's campaign, not Android's. Android used to be a company, but was consumed by Google. Android is now just an OS, and it can't campaign.

Great review both parts. The only thing I have issue with is that all reviews keep saying the iPhone 5 maps have problems. The reality is it has nothing to do with the phone but with the iOS. How do I know? Because i still have the 4s and I have the exact same map problems. Apple will fix it like they do everything else. I will get the 5 I have owned every iphone that has been made. The other thing is I like having to enter my password to purchase. If someone got you phone they could break you.

I'm not saying this as an Android fan, but I'm saying it as a tech geek: I'm disappointed with how little Apple did in a year. There are few good improvements and just not enough for it to compete with Android. Heck, I'd cop a 920 before I bought an iPhone 5.

Thats really the point, Apple tends to offer less features on the i phone but its more polished, fluid and easier to use making it reliable, the reliability of an i phone and ease of use is the main selling point imo, but with JellyBean, the OS is now just as fluid on Android. To me, Android has now gone far ahead of iOS which up until the 3GS, was the leader in anything smartphone. One thing good point about i phones though is that they dont drop value as fast meaning high resale value

The galaxy s3 is probably the better phone, but its the music (gapless playback), and app selection that keeps me coming to apple. I've owned a ton of android phones, tried different music players aside from stock, and then end up being buggy after a few hours(I listen to about 2-3 hours of music a day). And then there's the apps, which are a hit or miss. Not to mention the updates that take forever if it's not a nexus (which are unfortunately always lower spec'ed than every current android)
