Slavery is officially banned internationally by all countries, yet despite this, in the world today there are more slaves now than ever before. In the four hundred years of the slave trade around 13 million people were shipped from Africa. Today there are an estimated 27 million slaves - people paid no money, locked away and controlled by violence. Multi-Award winning documentary makers Kate Blewett and Brian Woods - who produced the groundbreaking films The Dying Rooms, Innocents Lost and Eyes of a Child, saw this terrible exploitation with their own eyes. The result is an utterly devastating film.

It's very frustrating TRYING to watch this documentary when there are NO subtitles for the various languages spoken nor do the journalists/investigators relay what the answer was to their questions. So basically only getting half a story here. Sigh, I guess I'll move on to something that isn't pointless!!

It has to be a budget issue...cause the other is more sinister. How can one narrate a powerfully human subject in the English language, but not have subtitles for these people’s voices. In fact, this should be narrated in as many languages along with it’s subtitles. Not having it seems that these people’s voices are being muted when the documentary is about their sufferings??

If you’re going to have long portions of people speaking different languages and not add a voice over (especially seeing as this vid is now 4 years old and the problem still exists😅), please consider subs. Usually the narrator at least explains what was said, but here we get nothing. It’s really interesting, but to get the full picture would be better. Thanks! ❤️🙏🏼

Slavery is such offensive thing. It still goes on in all lands. Instead of hating someone because of things of the past, we need to hold ourselves accountable and stand together against all slavery. In reality slavery is not a thing of the past but is strong even now in our time. Its time to put a stop to it.

La Red: The subtitles you are referring to is the "closed captioning" and it is so poorly done that it is easier to read the expressions and tone of voice, rather than trying to read the text. It is rather as if someone is trying to phonetically type out the words in English, instead of translating it.

The only reason that slavery was banned in the west is, sadly, not because it was morally wrong, as most people recognize as a given, but because chattel slavery simply is not as profitable as debt slavery. Chattel slaves have to be housed, they have to fed, they have to be clothed, debt slaves have to do all this for themselves, and work on the plantation for their masters, who at the top pay them for their labour with money that, since the gold standard was abandoned, is conjured out of thin air, costing those banks who "produce it" just about no effort at all.

I mean, even without the translation of the answers given by those interviewed, it is clear what the issue is, isn’t it. Slavery is still going on & on a larger scale and all around the world. We already know the answers to the questions being spoken in a foreign tongue, so whether or not there are subtitles is not the problem. We are being informed that we may be securing goods that are tied to this rampant modern day slavery. What are we going to do or say about it should be the concern.

Whether it's Christianity, Islam or whatever else, their "holy" books almost all support it. Let's stop following an ancient book and start following our own moral compass ok?

I wondering how all the people being snarky asshats and telling people to use subtitles patronizingly have watched this video themselves. No way they were fluent in all of these languages. To anyone saying "uSe ThE cApTiOnS," they don't work. Unless the channel manually includes subtitles themselves, KZbin creates AI-assisted subtitles that amount to gibberish and half-English words that make no sense. It "listens" to the video and types what it believes is said, which in this case and it not being in English like the program is listening for, means nonsense. So before more people decide to be rude and condescending to others, pay attention.
