Yes, I agree. I've thought this for a long time. My grandparents were born as sharecroppers in Mississippi. It was the system that replaced southern slavery. Renters lived on the land, usually in a tiny shack, with a no running water and a wood burning stove. The renters most often consisted of an extended family and lots of children, were required to farm and work the land with mules and a plow. The family paid their bills with the cotton and vegetables that they produced. They were always in debt and never was able to make a profit. They just survived. I see that same predicament existing in the system we have today.

Absolutely!! And I read about this in my textbook!! It’s so horrible how they had to live. Just accruing debt and working and working and working and never being able to get out of it!! Thank you so much for your comment!!

Love this perspective, Liz! I don't want to vote for either Trump nor Biden. We need 2 new candidates! I grew up in the 50's & 60's in a family with 5 kids and only one income. I had 3 basic school outfits and a Sunday outfit until I began babysitting to pay for some of my own clothes. I learned to sew and made many of my clothes beginning in middle school; I never purchased a formal dress for prom or special dances.My mom and dad grew a huge garden and mom canned and froze vegetables and fruit. I was lucky to have parents that made sure we had healthy food, so we were rarely sick enough to go to the doctor. I also quit using my computer printer bc the ink would dry up from limited use. I go to Staples,Office Depot, or the library for printing documents. I don't mind being on Social Security since Covid bc I have always had to live on a tight budget. My first babysitting jobs paid $.25 per hour. In college I made $2.25 an hour. I have never traveled the USA nor been on a cruise. When raising my kids we went to Disney World once for a 3-day vacation. Keep on reminding us that we should demand change!

Cruises are great for solo vacationing and you meet people from all over the country and even the world!! Lifelong friends!! Look into it!! I believe a change will come but not without a fight!!

Good Rant! Gas tax used to be .17 / gallon just before the pandemic. Now it's over .55 cents and climbing. My car insurance is up over 30% just in the last couple of years in CA and it's going to get worse!

Yes I’m scared for the future. I make good money (allegedly) but still have to pay student loans, car insurance (crazy in Cali), credit card (from when I needed to make ends meet in grad school. 6 figures is not a lot and the answer isn’t “go get a 200k job”. Where does it end? I’m in a rent control place and o don’t think I’ll leave so long as I stay in my city. Housing costs are insane and rent is just as bad, if not worse. It’s like no escape. The one things I truly own is my degree and my car.

Yes!! 100K isn't 100K anymore!! "They say" if you make 100K, you need to live in the hood and drive a shitty car like you make 40k! Like huh??? So then at what point do you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor? They always keep moving the goal post! And It also depends on what city you live in. 100K in NYC is like 35k in the middle of bum-fck nowhere. It get's you by, but not much else!
