I feel like almost every verse felt like a punch to the emotional gut, punch after punch after punch haha I was immediately floored by "How you been man? Your face looks thinner. What you doing for dinner? I made enough for two" - masculine, brotherly love is something I've been trying to embrace and I felt the desire to just *love* in this line
@alexfome11236 ай бұрын
Can you please kindly explain what does this line mean?
@themrmoustacheman6 ай бұрын
@@alexfome1123 I'm on my break rn and I'm an English teacher so I would love to be a pretentious prat and give my input. 'White knuckles' are associated with anxiety and nervousness, and him having his 'knuckles on the counter' is supposed to conjure this image of him alone in his kitchen, clenching his fists and pressing them firmly against the counter because of these pent-up emotions. When he says that he's 'kicking [so hard] to keep [his] head above', it means that he feels like he's barely floating, nearly drowning under these emotions, and he is kicking his legs (trying so hard) to keep his head above the water so that he doesn't drown under and succumb to these emotions.

Definitely. It would have been a great song without it but it just adds so much emotional force. I think it also expresses the positive side of grief in remembering and cherishing the love you have lost. It's touching how many of the comments say how the song helps their authors with present grief. Thank you so much gents for this and demonstrating the affirmative side to punk in the face of adversity.

Listening to the album on my driving in to to work this morning - even though I've heard this tune for a while, I was in floods of tears during it today I lost my mum to Alzheimer's in March 2020 & one of my best mates to alcoholism 6 months later. Struggled to deal with these body blows for quite a while & whilst I'm through the worst of it now the first verse puts in to words about my mum's condition as it worsened especially "this'll all be over soon" as one of the last things she was ever able to coherently say was, whilst asleep, "I just want to die". The second verse is like a kick to the guts about my friend even down to the "starling murmurations" line as we became friends at uni in Aberystwyth which, amongst other things is known for its huge starling murmurations off the pier with the setting sun over the Irish Sea as a backdrop I find the song extremely cathartic even down to the scream at the end of each chorus So well to the lads for creating only the second song to ever make me cry in my 49 years on this earth!!!
