His opinion is that although the West does have a big responsibility for the atrocities committed in the Middle East and Affrica, when we blame everything on the West, we think we are being progressive and anti colonial but instead we engage in a new type of colonial bigotry. Here's the problem with his arguments. All of the current islamic extremist groups in the middle east, including Al-Qaeda and ISIS, were being supported by Western imperial powers, given weapons, funding and training to fight against people who served US economic interests. The majority of people in the middle east did not want these extremists to have power, and would much rather enjoy a middle class lifestyle with safe neighborhoods, and some basic personal liberties. So there is an "active" group in the middle east of expansionary extremists, but they were on the fringes of society until Western powers spent the last 100 years supporting those people for their own interests. Secondly, the legacy of Christianity and Western colonialism is the most brutally violent and intolerant in the entirety of human history. The history of Europe is plagued with constant war, torture and persecution. It wasn't until the post WWII era, and the introduction of nuclear arms created the doctrine of mutually assured destruction did the west stop becoming a violent, imperialistic shithole. This also why I reject the idea that idea of democracy and universal liberation are unique aspects of "western culture." These ideas may have developed in the west, but they were in response and reaction to the oppressive, intolerant, irrational culture of Christianity. There are also ancient traditions of liberal thought in China and India. If you believe in universal liberty, democracy, and human rights, these should not be reserved for one "Culture" but expanded to the whole of humanity.
@phanaiosapollon20978 жыл бұрын
"All of the current islamic extremist groups in the middle east, including Al-Qaeda and ISIS, were being supported by Western imperial powers, given weapons, funding and training to fight against people who served US economic interests. The majority of people in the middle east did not want these extremists to have power, and would much rather enjoy a middle class lifestyle with safe neighborhoods, and some basic personal liberties." ...So send the migrants and refugees to the USA, and in particular to the actual organisations which supported said extremist groups. Rather than to Europe where the native working class has it bad enough as it is already, without the extra stress of having to deal with the problem of Muslim immigrants who generally refuse to integrate and may or may not be harbouring current Islamic extremist groups supported by the US government and a kowtowing European upper class. Just as the majority of the people in the Middle East did not want these extremists to come to power, a great number of Europeans (and the majority of the working class) do not want to have to deal with the outcomes of their governments' stupid decisions made in response to problems caused by US backed Western imperial powers, who are working against the interest of native, working class Westerners/Europeans. No, they would rather enjoy a middle class lifestyle with safe neighborhoods, and some basic personal liberties. Those things are being eroded by multiculturalism and mass migration. Do yourself a favour and stop looking at "the West" as one great homogenous, imperialistic force for evil, and consider there are millions upon millions of Europeans whose interests do not lie with the treasonous, globalist powers who tend to rule their nations.
@outofbluepills6 жыл бұрын
belowroller, you're quite confused about the facts. Islam has been violently attacking its neighbors and subjugating its non-Muslim residents (when they're allowed to continue drawing breath) for the past 14 centuries! I've heard Chomsky make the claim you did, that the neo-imperialists of the US have preferred radical Islam to Arab nationalism, and, for this reason, the US has aided some radical Islamists. Assume arguendo that this is true. This in no way accounts for the prior 1300 years of Islamic militarism, aggression, and Jim Crow-style harrassment of non-Muslims. You can't explain a phenomenon starting in the 7th century A.D. with a "cause" that began in the 20th century A.D. Neither the US nor the west, in general, has been the cause of Islamic aggression. I'll grant that western imperialists have committed terrible crimes, but it doesn't follow from that fact that there are no other grand criminal gangs throughout history. The entire Middle East was all Christian. Islam invaded, conquered, and so thoroughly harrassed the remaining Christians (and Jews and Zoroastrians) that it's now thought by fools like you that the Muslim world was always the Muslim world, not the domain of the conquered Christians. I haven't even mentioned the Islamic conquest of the eastern Christian empire or of India. Read "The History of Jihad" by Robert Spencer and "Sword and Scimitar" by Raymond Ibrahim. The other idea you espoused, that Christianity, not Islam, is the violent religion is laughable. Islam has killed more people than Hitler (including ALL WWII deaths), Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and WWI COMBINED. Christianity doesn't even get an honorable mention in this competition. You're shilling for an evil, very-Nazi-like ideology that is dedicated to DESTROYING everything that is good in the left. You've been sold a bill of goods.

Out of Blue Pills As soon as you mentioned the name Robert Spencer I immediately switched off!😒 Reading books penned or ghostwritten by those who have no knowledge of Islamic history, jurisprudence, culture or even its language does not make you any more knowledgeable about the subject than the average ignorant man on the street who obtains all his information from an equally ill-informed media. You want to understand about Islam and its laws then try talking to a cleric or read material from the perspective of someone who can justify calling himself an authority on the subject because he/she has spent many years studying Quranic interpretation and has mastered the Arabic language, at the very least. There has been an accumulation of problems over centuries, the divisions have created over the last 100 years or more. International agreements by the selected few (West) to represent billions of people for their own interest is causing the uprising, chaos rightly or wrongly and we need to get real. With human intelligence I’m sure these things can be sorted collaboratively internationally if the few (West) ever want this to occur? We have to face facts and reality.

However, if you have two cultures that simply lack the common paradigm that would allow the mutual respect, code of polite ignorance, etc, the conflict is unavoidable -- unless one assimilates into the other. Where does this deadlock lead us? ... Zizek is afraid of posing certain questions, as they are too much of a taboo to the Left. Huntington was not all wrong, and Zizek does not have the balls to face this fact, and his stuck to the marxist determinism even to understand it. In any case, what he says at the beginning of interview about the "Big Picture", the real reasons behind the crisis, is absolutely correct, although I am afraid that he lacks the conceptual tools for actually telling what it is.

We can see this in Canada where different nationals are actually polarized. But I think time will teach us that there are common cultures that end the issue. This time might be very long though; may be when all humanity come to understand that Western Civilization and its basic tenets like liberalism, individualism and tolerance are The way to global peace and prosperity, if any.

What Slavoj Zizek is saying; when citizen are forced to face a culture with a huge intellectual gap, revolution might happen!

The first marxist i respect, other marxists just say "THIS IS A CONSEQUENCE OF CAPITALISM" he clearly said "ayo this is the fault of terrorism" "ayo i don't want to integrate i want polite integration"
@oracle81924 жыл бұрын
He said that people should volontarily Integrate with one another and not have it forced in any way. And he said that both imperialism/capitalist interests, and Islam, were responsible

I'm sorry but failed integration is not an excuse to run around killing people. Integration is mostly a failure on the individual's part and only secondarily that of the government or society. You claim that a strong integration push has caused these radicals but much points to the opposite, too low integration pressure. And if you advocate for "distance", then where does it end? Segregation? Homogenous pools of alternative cultures which will increase inequality? How would a government look like that'd try to govern such a mess? In the end you'd have to just throw everyone else out lol...

The Newman woman looks as if she's giving his words a massage with her face. This in sharp contrast to the interview with Jordan Peterson wherein her face looked as if it was passing gas.
