I can imagine how much work it was to add the card effects to make them appear on screen when theyre relevant and keep us that much more engaged, so it's very appreciated ^^ It actually reminded me alot of Wil Wheaton's old tabletop show, which was my favorite. Man this was so exciting to watch, there's a lot to unpack here. Been looking forward to the board game ever since it was teased a year or so back and so excited to actually watch it in action and very pleased with how it looks so far. -Love the way upgrades are handled, having sleeves for the cards is nice on it's own to protect the cards, but to actually have it be useful for the double-sided cards is a fantastic idea. -Although the Energy/Block/HP components seem slightly limited (rip 999 block dream), compared to what you can achieve in the original game, seems like a very neccessary evil so the game doesn't get too out of hand and complicated, like the way they're tracked and the mats look great! -The way status cards are implemented are pretty interesting, I was wondering if you had to sleeve them up and add them to your shuffled deck perhaps but like the way they're implemented here. -The whole pathing and the way acts are implemented seems great, 13 floors compared to the normal 16 so it's slightly condensed, but not a huge issue at all, hopefully we'll be able to see Act 2 and 3 being played soon too! Is there act 4 as well? Perhaps that's a kickstarter bonus, the Spire wouldn't be complete without the Heart!! -I was a bit anxious as to how relics would be implemented, as if you've played the digital game, they can become quite complex, especially the ones that count cards and crossover to the next combat, absolutely love the way they work with the dice rolls, although I'm sure it gets a little complex when you have 10+ relics at the end of act 3, having a dice roll to thin them out is a fantastic idea and never seemed too overwhelming. I'm sure a few have been ommitted or changed completely to make them viable in this format - I expect all the cards are there though. I also liked how the boss relics seem universal (Nuclear Battery for example isn't Defect exclusive), although shouldn't you still have a choice of 3? A bad boss relic can easily ruin a great run, not sure if that's a mistake or intended. -As an avid Spire player, everything seemed to flow well and make sense, I can imagine if someone played this without playing the video game before hand it might be quite complicated and slow-paced until they get the hang out if, but knowing how the original is played and how certain things interact, it was very easy to follow - the minor changes to Weak and Vulnerable (looks like they removed Frail?) might have a bit of getting used to, but seems good enough' -Really like the way enemies work, it's nice to see what rewards you'll be getting at the end of combat, and having it just be a dice roll to decide what they do makes most combats pretty simple, and only get a bit more complex for Elites and Bosses' -Liking how although all the numbers are simplified, there seems to still be a good amount of strategy involved and some of the card changes that are different than the original are pretty interesting. The cards where randomisation has been removed (All Out Attack & True Grit) seem especially strong if you can pick the cards, almost feels upgraded out the gate. I'm sure the game is balanced around that regardless, the upgrades for Strike and Defend seem surprisingly relevant too which is nice since it's more likely you'll be removing less and decks not being quite as big as you could get normally. Overall very excited to play this whenever it's finally out, already backed it on kickstarter and looking forward to whatever bonus stuff they release since it's already been fully backed. The Co-op element seems very engaging and interesting, being able to take your turn simulatenously and help each other out in combat, and trading coins and potions is a very fun element, but still seems great to play solo aswell as an alternative to the original. They really knocked it out the park with this adaptation in my opinion, I'm sure there will be a few kinks here and there but from this playthrough it looks fantastic. Great vid btw! Will you be playing Act 2 and 3 aswell? Would love to see more of this.

Wow thanks for such a thoughtful and well laid out response! On the note of the boss relics we were absolutely supposed to draw 3 each and choose from among them so we goofed that! And yeah I think the relics work well because even at the end of act 3 most will come down to that die roll and if you get a 3 you can quick scan for everything that triggers. I think that helps keep it somewhat manageable haha And we wish we could do act 2 and 3 but we were only given act one materials. Alas. We wanted to keep going so badly!!

I think there is another, little mistake. The Juggernaut-Card says "Whenever you gain DEF, deal 1 damage." So, if you play the upgraded Defend, you get 2 DEF, but you only get it ONCE - so it should do 1 damage and not 2, like you guys did (otherwise, the Defend-Card would say 1Def, 1Def - which would trigger the Juggernaut two times). Anyway - great content, can't wait to play it myself!

Very interesting how they've been able to adapt the mechanics for a physical board game. The rules are a little bit complex, especially for newbies, but I think it works. The only complaints I can move (a far from the price that I've heard it's quite big) are: 1) As I said, the board game works, but still, isn't too similar to the original game? Maybe some kind of bigger diversity would have been better, it's no surprise that many pc players will just say "well, I already have the "digital" copy". It's also true that I don't really see how to make it different from the videogame ahahah 2) It seems a little bit too easy. Maybe it's a good difficulty for newbies or non hardcore gamers, but if someone is coming from Ascension 20, I'm quite sure he could get bored. I don't know if there are some kind of "increase difficulty" in the manual, but I think they should let enemies being able to attack different players (using a 4 face dice) not only the one in the row (just like players can attack on different rows) . Or, another alternative, especially in Elite and Boss fight, could be to put an elite/boss for every player (true that maybe in this way would be too hard). So maybe a could alternative could be to add an encounter of normal monsters per player over 1, e.g.: If you're playing in 3 the boss/elite encounter will be the elite/boss + 2 normal encounters. And now that I'm thinking about it, board game are good especially because you can easily "mod" by your own rules and pretty sure hardcore gamers will find the solution for a better difficulty ahahah
@TheBrothersMurph2 жыл бұрын
1. I think you're in a lose lose situation there as the designer. Make it too different then all the comments will be "but that's not Slay the Spire" especially considering STS is already so similar to just a normal board game. But make it exactly the same and people will say, "so why wouldn't I just play the video game?" Personally we think they did well with what they changed. But that's us. 2. We can't really say on that as we only played the first act, but I assume Acts 2 &3 will become much more difficult

I think both of these points work as a plus for me. I really like Slay the Spire, although I am not very good at it, and it is a lot like a lot of card games that I play with my family a lot. Having this game would be like being able to get my family to play a game I like all together, and also my dad and mom don't tend to be very good at games so the easier difficulty would allow us to have more fun

Run ended right there 😂 There were a few decisions that could ve saved us but it was a close call. It felt good nonetheless, not an unfair loss, just a nice difficulty spike. The knowledge from the game matters a lot . Side note I play at asc 20 on the video game.

I wonder if Weak and Vulnerable effects were accidentally implemented wrong. In the video game one stack of weak and vulnerable lasts one turn whether the player/enemy attacks or not. In this game they stay on you until you attack. So if you have weak, you cannot get rid of it by just having a defensive turn. You actually have to waste an attack to consume weak. The same goes for enemies. If the enemies happen to have a debuff turn and you timed your weak badly, you are not penalized when the enemy does not attack because weak stacks do not get removed on each turn.
@TheBrothersMurph2 жыл бұрын
Yeah those things are changed for the board game and now trigger when attacks happen vs lasting for a whole turn. Now they last until the next attack and each attack itself removes a token

Nice video and nice play-through! One question: in Slay the Spire the videogame, it can happen you choose and add to your deck multiple copies of the same card... Are there extra copies of cards also in Slay the Spire the boardgame? Because I think I have not seen any in your video (or maybe I just have missed something...).
@TheBrothersMurph2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure to be honest that’s something you can definitely ask over on the Kickstarter page and they will give you the answer for a card like anger or some thing. We didn’t come across anything in our Playthru that had cards that multiply themselves
@luigiabbiati84612 жыл бұрын
@@TheBrothersMurph Thanks for the reply. Cards like "Anger" that you mentioned fall into the multiple copies category... I guess my question was even more generic: have you seen in the decks multiple copies of, just to make an example, "Cleave" or "Poisoned Stab"?

one more mistake found on the video by the way fyi. In early game ironclad gets "weakened". He cleaves, but the minus 1 damage from the weaken is not counted. This changes that combat significantly as the enemies would not die and play their turn. Its insane how easy it is to do mistakes in this board game variation. I think it might need a type of organizer/coach player to check through all the stuff that no mistakes are made when playing with a group for sure.
@TheBrothersMurph2 жыл бұрын
Yeah respect with a game like this I feel like things will get missed. If each player can kind of check each other it helps and then of course with more plays I’m sure it’d get easier to remember to track everything correctly

@@TheBrothersMurph Yup, still I loved the video and positivity you guys seem to let out through the screen! Always happy to see fellow sts fans playing with this energy, cheers! In my opinion the video game is nothing short of a deckbuilding masterpiece by all counts. It has literally nailed everything that makes a roguelike deckbuilder great. Its nice to see the main feeling kept the same in the adaptation and the main sellout I think is the co-op feature, although this seems best for a duet 2 player count, no more.

Page 18 of the ks rulebook : Can Block prevent an effect that says “Lose X HP?” No. You can only block damage. Damage comes from hits and “damage” effects. If feel that it will take a lot of time to get to know every details of the game rules. I hope that the final version will address those types of cases in a clearer way.

It does hit the shield, but the way it is written is kinda confusing. I am pretty sure there was a discussion and it was decided that it should have a sword in the effect description.

No, you are misremembering. It says "take damage", not "lose hp". The latter goes through block, the former does not. After all, the nob just gains strength in the game, which is obviously blockable.

Really great job at walking through the game mechanics! Been such a huge fan of the video game, backed this project immediately. Quick question, has there been a distinction made by the game designers on how much of these features are still in development or is this version pretty set in stone for the final product?
@TheBrothersMurph2 жыл бұрын
We can't say on how far along the design process is, or how final everything is. To us, when we played it, it seemed pretty well done. But again we don't have any insider info on that so we can't say

Yeah, but if the game doesn't always give you the cards/resources needed to make thah build work. If you play and restart 10 times to get that build going, you lost 9/10 games to get there.
