It's been a long time since I saw this movie but I remember a scene where Stevie and his Dad are in a restaurant talking about school and Stevie basically tells him how he cheated his way through school BUT the Dad basically said "if you didn't care about school why did you make the effort into cheating" and to this day that scene still sticks w/ me to this day.

I love that no matter how much of a sellout/dork/whatever you want to call him he is, Stevo's dad is actually really supportive of whatever it is that Stevo does. Even if he doesnt fully understand how Stevo thinks of things, its clear that he actually loves and cares about his son, and both wants his son to do what's best for himself and also do something that will better his life.
@andrewcook12463 жыл бұрын
Thats why when Bob and Trish told him the girl they were gonna introduce him to at her party was a rich girl, he very self-awarely says he's a rich boy too. With a little disdain but fully aware that his parents gave him plenty of love support and freedom to prove them right in the end.
@georgewilliamson56673 жыл бұрын
@@andrewcook1246 Yeah. Things like that are what makes this such an awesome movie, with this being a really big part of it. It doesnt diminish the plight of the many poor friends who Stevo has, shows that rich people can have very real and meaningful solidarity with their poor friends, while also not demonizing rich people either by showing that Stevos parents actually love and support him, even if they dont quite get what he is doing. It does a great job of humanizing all of its characters, regardless of what their background is, and especially making a point about how all of us regardless of background can make a difference. This is especially true because Stevo is our protagonist. By having him be a rich kid from a rich family, it makes a great point how everyone can see the same issues, and also how oppression is not jus the plight of the poor, we just have different resources in how we fight against that oppression, with Stevo eventually recognizing what his position in society is and being able to take his experiences hanging out with the marginalized members of society and be able to translate that understanding into him using his law degree to fight the system from the inside.

Like his father is happy that Stevo has all these opinions but feels like he's doing nothing with it. Yeah he's not a fan of how he's dress or the fact he rejected Harvard, but he's super supportive of Stevo, and Stevo doesn't even act out that much either. The one moment I loved is as they're talking, his dad brings up how well Stevo did in school, and Stevo says he "cheated" through school, his did sees through that bullshit and goes "ok why cheat if you didn't care about your grades"

Hi English speakers! I'm quite good at English but sometimes is difficult for me to understand all the words (I'm from Cagliari, Sardinia and in my island, and more in general in Italy, English is not taken in consideration a lot... Also, I can't speak to anyone and my ears are not well trained) ... Subtitles are often wrong... And people speak terribly fast! At the beginning, the movie subtitles say "My father was hell-bent on getting me to go to Harvard Law School, like he did"... but I hear something a bit different at the end of the sentence, and not "like he did"... It would seem "... like he'd when he was a kid..." but I'm not sure of the sound and this expression, "he'd", is odd (I don't think I can contract "did" with "'d")... Can you help me, please? :)

Imagine if you will if Ross (aka Heroine Bob and Trish's son) towards the end of the movie was arrested for attempted murder or something. They had to do something, so Sean and Trish reached out and got a hold of Stevo who is not a hotshot attorney in New York. Ross doesn't know who his attorney is until he comes in and introduces himself. At the end when he gets the kid cleared of his crimes, maybe have him pass on his razorblade necklace or something.
