Gunther, my first dachshund, loved to sleep in the funniest ways and positions. Most notable was his bottom half, hanging out from under the covers, showing maybe his opinion of the world? Gunther also loved to sleep between the driver side door and my hip when I would drive any considerable distance, all four of his legs hanging in the air, how he found this comfortable, I never knew. But he would cry and scratch to get from passenger side seat to his favorite car ride sleeping spot. Like every dachshund, he was ever protective and loyal, and loved his treats, especially cheese. Gunther lived to be just short of 19 years, at the end he was almost blind, a bit hard of hearing, and a bit slower than when he was younger, but he picked me, when I first saw him at the kennel where he was born, he walked right up to me, look up at me, and let lose a small puppy bark, that months later would be a full, deep, bark as only a dachshund can make. He was the alpha pup, and the spitting image of his father miles, that as I recall had some success as a show dachshund. Gunter was fearless, his spirit never faded, and as he slipped into his finally rest, all I could say was, 'We have had a long and wonderful run together... A long and wonderful run." Every dachshunds I have had the pleasure of spending my life with, these many years, has been unique in their own right, each special. Mac reminds me of Gunther, not exactly sure why, but when I see Mac, I often think of Gunther. And now, as I look down and see Nikki and Indie, the latest in the line of dachshund companions... what I call "DSI" Dachshund Security Incorporated, I realize how special it is to spend your life with a dachshund. Gunther established DSI, long may it continue.

Mac is the most contortionist sleeping dog I have ever seen. His chiropractor bills must be through the roof. Good thing there is no Mrs. Mac because she would be constantly fighting for the covers or her side of the bed. 😴 He is an absolute angel when he is asleep. Right? Was it your husband who posted the 11 second video of Mac asking the question "Why we should care about Mac de Mini? Ok, Mac, open up I am coming in, baby! This certainly was a very special video.
