Fascinating - I’ve had esophagitis since the 80’s at least - I alway thought sleeping on your left side where your heart lies would put pressure on the heart from the bed.
@stradaveriusfiddle12 күн бұрын
A long time ago, I heard a doctor who recommended the same, about sleeping on the right side to reduce pressure on the heart. I’m pretty surprised to hear this doctors opposing theory. I guess it makes sense, but I’ve been sleeping on my right side for a couple decades, and when I had a recent cardiologist check up, he said that my arteries, etc are generally clear of plaque and pretty good shape for my age. 🤷♂️ but this is going to be making me think about trying out sleeping on my left side.

@asilaamour680210 күн бұрын
I agree with you
@kylegoodman9997Ай бұрын
Sleeping on your right side, also known as the right lateral position, may be best for people with heart problems. This position can help maintain the heart's stability and relieve cardiac strain. It also moves the heart further away from the chest wall, which can help prevent the heart from being pressed against it. Some studies have found that people with heart failure often prefer to sleep on their right side. This could be a protective mechanism because the left-side sleeping position can cause discomfort due to the sensation of the heart beating against the chest wall
@SRHisnum1Ай бұрын
Well that just went against everything he just said. He said sleep on the left side. Yogis say sleep on your back is the only n proper way. I sleep on my right and I have heart issues and back issues as well as sleep apnea and I'm fluffy.

You are correct. When I worked in the ICU and had really unstable cardiac patients, putting them on their left side was always tenuous, and when I worked in hospice if somebody wasn’t moving along and walking through the veil, shifting them over to their left side…they’d pass.

It doesn't matter one way or the other, which side but a comfortable pillar should be placed under the head when lying in a fetal position, so oxygen and blood pressure flow evenly throughout the body. And if you are very slim, then you may also need a small pillow between knees and ankles bone so there's no pressure or pain that can be uncomfortable. I hope this helps, dear. ❤️

I'm a big believer in your own body knowing/telling you what's best for you if you pay close attention to your own instincts. Everyone is different & what maybe fine for one person may not be, for another. ( For e.g. while a woman is pregnant her own body tells her what the baby needs nutritionally by the cravings she will have ... and sometimes these cravings are seemingly for the most unusual things & vary for different women etc And if someone is ill the body tells them when to sleep, eat, drink, not eat and so on and so on. What may be correct for one person may be detrimental to another. People just aren't used to (really) paying attention to their own body's as much nowadays. ( just my opinion )

How can it reduce pressure on the heart when you have the weight of other organs pressing on it? Sleeping on the right side there is nothing to cause pressure so I'll continue to sleep on my right.
@uliyankadoe118Ай бұрын
That's what I am thinking as well!
@user-jk8ez5hq4dАй бұрын
Yep, makes no sense that sleeping on the left side reduces the body weight on the heart. There would be more weight pressing from the right side.
@user-mv4be1tc2uАй бұрын
There are no organs on either side of your heart, he said weight of the body not weight of the organs, not saying I agree with his point about that.

Gravity on the right pulls the heart out of its natural position, which causes it to work harder when you are sleeping. When you are sleeping, your heart should also be resting. On your left side, it allows the heart to relax because it's in its natural position and it's not struggling for oxygen. Hopefully, that made sense.

@@toshab.9668too bad they don't teach this stuff in grade school but then again not everybody's a good student so we need a chiropractor to reinforce our health habits not a medical doctor dealing drugs

@@toshab.9668Sleeping on the left side is not recommended for people with heart conditions. Which generally includes elderly people. Otherwise, it's okay and probably beneficial.

Sleep flat on your back/chest, to keep your spine aligned, also with an orthopedic matress. This guy's advice puts pressure on your hear valves, ages and mis-shapes collegen on one side of your face, and can cause curvature of the spine. I have multiple world records for sports and speed, so what possible beneift can I get fom this when I already far outweigh my oppenents? There will be none, sadly because this doctor does not have a certification badge, like DR. Gary linkov on here. Sorry to dissapoint you, but it's not great advice for optimum body care. Lay on your back. tilting the face slightly back to uplift the face naturally and reverse gravitational effects and increase hair growth through scalp blood circulation

@@gordonpkm7560 Absolutely. I'm a firm believer on sleeping however is most comfortable. With the magic of pillows, you can align your spine in any position 😊 Although be aware you'll lose facial symmetry hard sleeping on one side, like did when I developed the bad habit 😥 Keep the rotisserie going haha

I sleep 4 hours on my right. Then I flip on my stomach for 1 hour. Then I move to my recliner for 1.5 hours. It's the only way my 50 yr old body can get 6 hours of sleep at night.
