I have two Ostomy bags, an ileostomy, and a urostomy. I've also woken up to a mess a few times. The best way for me to sleep, is on my side, with a pillow between my knees. My journey has been 14 years so far. Having bags is not the end of the world. I've learnt to manage two bags, one would be easy. Great video, thanks for sharing 👍

I apologise for asking a personal question, but my mother is going to have a surgery in a week and she is going to have two bags as well on both sides. So, I really wanted to ask some questions. Are you able to sleep on the sides or do you always have to sleep straight ?
@wisecampmotorcycles8258
@wisecampmotorcycles8258 Жыл бұрын
@@ayeon5609 yes, as I always slept on my sides before, I was concerned about this too. But yes, I sleep on my sides, with a small pillow between my knees. Just don't roll over to far, I've had a few accidents in the early days. Also, sleeping on your back is not good, as the waste can pool around the stoma, and cause leaking. There is life after two bags, I've been here an extra 14 years so far 😊

God bless you young lady for doing this. It’s so so important. I never saw anything about living with my Ostomy. One lesson in hospital which I barely remember. First few months was hell.

I wanted to say that I also wrap a bath towel around my mid section at night that way if I do have leak hopefully it will catch it instead of ruining my sheets , mattress ect. Your PJs or gown will get it but they are much easier to clean than a mattress especially ...and I know you can put a water proof mattress cover on ...but they make me so hot I am 52 and have had a hysterectomy so I am in hot flash central station ...lol

High output bags are great for overnight because there is more space. You might even get a night sleep without having to get up at all. Coloplast makes a great one.

I use a small pillow that I hug to my left side where my ostomy is. I started using it because we have cats 🐈 and I was afraid they were going to walk across my stomach. I was very sore after surgery. Now 10 weeks postop I find hugging the pillow to my side keeps me from rolling onto my stomach. Love your videos. They are all very uplifting. I’ve watched them all since I’ve had my surgery. God bless.

Hey I am 67 and I have Crohn's disease. I have had my colostomy since 1988. Had it for 34 years. I use çonvatec.I also use a closed ed pouch. I love it. I just couldn't use the drain able pouches I do have an ileostomy. I like the thought of a drain able pouch that we can wear at night to help relieve the pressure.I wakeup if I ever get to sleep 3 or 4 times a night. I have lots of gas. And I'm glad I have my bag because I had diarrhea so bad. Thank you for your videos. I have only seen 2 and I look forward to seeing more of them. They have really helped me so far. Thank you so much. Doris

I was using coloplast products and they would not stay on so I changed to convatec. I love them but the skin around my stoma has little sunken in places. And it's leaks there and I called convatec and they sent me samples. They worked very well. Every now and then it will leak.

40 years with an ileostomy. Sleep on my left side pillow between bent knees taking pressure from spine. After all this time it has been decades since my body first started waking itself up with any buildup of air pressure in the bag. Somehow I wake up with pressure felt on my tummy. The trick is to not ignore it and get up carefully right away, just like ignoring any feeling of a tiny bit of wet is done at your own risk. It works even with the use of sleeping pills. I think it also depends on the equipment one uses as well.

Your videos keep me going. I think to myself, but if this young lady can do it, I have better learn from her like others. I got one way to do it in the hospital and barely less 24 hours without leaking fortunately, for the time being, I’m not being charged for the appliances and supplies. Maybe they’re trying to placate me from litigating because of a five months delay after I started urinating blood.! my aggressive bladder cancer resulted in my bladder and prostate being removed and this week bag. Every 24 hours is driving me crazy I have been trying what you said I found the paste did not say adhesive paste and broke it down. I seen people put it on the inside of their appliance . touching the stoma. Again, thank you so much for all the ever you put in to helping the rest of us newbies

This is my 3rd week out of surgery. I have so much anxiety about sleeping and not waking up while my bag leaks. I actually stopped taking my anti-anxiety meds because they do help me sleep well. Have only slept 4 hrs straight once since the hospital. I could kiss you. I am going through so many of the things you mentioned. Felt like I was losing my sanity. Not even cancer got me this messed up. Lack of sleep is terrible for me.

Me too! I am a fish....flopping from side to side. 4 days home from hospital and CANNOT sleep flat. Resting some in a recliner. But no routine at all yet. I "sleep" by nodding off at random times, ravenous or nausea also at the universe's whim. And get wiped out standing st the sink to brush my teeth LOL. SO GLAD to hear that things will get better. Thank you all!

I’ve only had my ileostomy for almost a year and a half, and I love it. I have Spina Bifida. I use to go to the bathroom the “normal” way, but over the past couple of years I started to loose my muscle strength in that area so that is why I had to have the ileostomy surgery.... My only problem is that I’m in a wheelchair. I can’t find anyone who is in a wheelchair who has an ileostomy that I can relate to.

I can not get my ostomy bag to stay on without leaking for more than 24 hrs. Changing it every day. I have scars from previous surgery that is right in the path of the adhesive on the base plate. Ant suggestions? I have even tried putting adhesive strips in to even out the area but that doesn’t work any better. It always fails in exactly the same spot

I use to have a hard time with mine leaking and I was so nervous about it. I still have some trouble when I change my bag. I just don't eat anything for a little while and I drink something to see if it will leak. I'm very active as in taking my grandson places. I do lots of errands also for my daughter.

Hi. I was diagnosed with stage IVa ovarian cancer 6/8/2020 & with it came an ileostomy. It took forever to figure out what the heck good ol Gabby was doing down there(I had to name her so I had a name to cuss at every time an accident happened). I had the same issue. There r two creases on my belly right where the barrier ring is supposed to lay flat. Sometimes I didn’t even get a full two hours of it. I have found the way the nurses and such taught me to do it was for someone laying down and without a 20 year old beer gut. Laying down worked as long as I gave it enough drying time before moving. I was already at a snails pace so to lay down would not be an option every time. I use less powder than they showed me and I use a utensil to smear the paste all the way around the barrier, making sure no air can get between or under the paste & my skin. After that, the other barrier is stuck on, then the bag. Several pinch circle are made all around to make sure the zip lock has happened. Then I go back and put my index finger right under the lip of the barrier and softly go in circles until I feel heat from the rubbing. Warming it once it’s in place helps to make the paste even throughout the entire area, filling any cracks, bumps, etc. then I try to not bend over or sweat for at least an hour but if I have to, I do another lil rub/heat circle thing. This way took almost a year to perfect for me but now I could get 5-7 days of a good strong seal if I needed to. Also, in a 911, I have used medical tape right on top of the stretchy part and somehow it has stopped many almost leak accidents. I also sleep with a huge baby mattress protector just in case! Please feel free to contact me if you would like a video cause I know I’m horrible at explaining things. Good luck to all & may humor be always around😊

I wish they made one with the filter up more. It always stops working after like 1 or 2 hours. Filter always gets clogged and that is on my mind so I can't sleep. I haven't been able to use my CPAP machine for 2 years now. If I use it I sleep thru the alarms cuz I don't hear the alarm when I'm wearing my mask. The cpap knocks me out too much
