Falling asleep after eating especially in the morning after a good nights sleep is a classic symptom of food intolerance. i am salicylate intolerant, now recovering from a systemic collapse because my adaptive response to eating small amounts of fruits high in salicylates drained my adrenals and left in in adrenal insufficiency crisis. This adaptive response was first described and proved in rats by Dr. Hans Selye in the 1930's. Given how your entire health, treatment, philosophy and practice is wholly nutrition based, I am rather surprised you haven't dealt with food intolerance - it's more widespread than many know. I used to have to find a quiet place around 10am to sleep for half an hour after a good 9 hours sleep - but I would have had perhaps some fruit or tomatoes or other high salicylate vegetables for my dinner the night before. One man who developed a high intolerance to eggs, when fed a cake by disbelieving friends, assured it had no egg, fell asleep half way through the meal. !! Perhaps you could include food intolerances in your repertoire as it has great significance.

I gradually switched over to OMAD most days and that was an improvement. Despite this strict diet, I have extreme tiredness after meals that continues to wreck my life. Thanks for the advice. Here's how I am going to employ it. My plan for the next couple of days is to fast, with coffee and tea only. When I break my fast, I will take apple cider vinegar before meals, cut the amount of protein and fat in the meal, and take D3 and K2 before bedtime. I know I will be more productive and alert during fasting. It's the transition to eating that is the test for me. I intend to learn from it. I have 40 pounds to go and a productive life to reclaim. Wish me luck.

Carb coma. Yes to using carbs as a sleep aid, I have done that in the past, and yes I’d wake up with a swollen face. Going low carb and fasting fixes so many problems!

since I've started cutting carbs and taking metformin (fasting blood sugar 125 so making big changes) a couple weeks ago I have had trouble staying asleep at night. Last night was the worst I woke up at 2:30 and couldn't get back to sleep. I have had less brain fog, but just as much fatigue as usual since I had Covid-19 in late January this year.

This is my biggest problem!! I get is on low carb. No matter if it is broccoli or a steak .I always have to lay down after I eat.I fast.while I fast I am fine ! I talk to my old dr about it she had no answer. A nurse told me one time it was a drop in blood pressure when all the blood rushes to your stomach to digest the food ?? Maybe it just my kidney disease?

Could you please write a book with much of the info you share here so we can have a reference guide to what Bittman do to help us and symptoms of low nutrients and how to solve them. It's easiest for me to find some answers in a book rather than look through all your videos. Love your content

Went on Keto in July bc of Neuropathy though I'm not diabetic (A1-C=5.2) Took the supplements (worked great!) but after a few months felt too low carb so I very foolishly ate some bread (3 meals in a row) and all night long my brain CLUNKED AND CLANKED AND WAS MISFIRING!!! Keto consultant said I confused my brain and it would take 3 weeks to recover. Sunday night will be 3 weeks, I am getting better slowly-D3 and ALA,BENFITMINE AND VIT E HELP but now I will add nutritional yeast as I still suffer from insomnia (due to chemo-8 YEARS NOW!)

Fasting is definitely the key to help you figure out why you're sleeping after eating certain things

I've been intermittent fasting my entire life. I always skipped breakfast even when going to school as a kid because it always gave me a stomach ache during class. I've also been an extreme carnivore my whole entire life as well, so I do not need to moderate my protein intake because my body has grown up to be keto adaptive since my childhood. I might get gout some day, but I'll deal with that when I cross that bridge. For now, I'm very hyperactive after a meal. I only looked up this video because I thought I had a problem since everyone I know gets food coma but me. Now I know that I'm supposed to feel this energetic after a meal. :D

I was getting less and less sleep the older I get and when I started keto and fasting last February I get even less, especially on the day I exercise. It's so weird.

I've put on 40lbs the last 2yrs cause I work, eat and sleep. I work 12-14hrs a day and won't eat at all til I get home cause no matter what I eat big or small, I get a headache and become very sleepy after eating. On top of that, I been taking 6-9 Excedrin daily for the last 10yrs for headaches. Finally got a VA appt on the 8th coming up to get checked out. Both kidneys ache now.
