Tom, my wife and say you haven't lived until you have had a Sleepy Lizard avocado. No joke.The hall is really terrific too. Maybe a favorite so far. QUESTION: Have you considered giving your customers a subscription option? So like ever month, 2 months, or what ever time frame your fruit will be ready, We are already paid up to receive our box of avocados. Think about it? We decided to no longer waste our money on supermarket avocados and just get them from you when available. Thank You for an amazing product.
@SleepyLizard2 жыл бұрын
Tim, thank you so much and yeah the Halls are really good. My wife and I made avocado rice with one the other day (white rice with avocado and salt) and it was delicious! Several customers have requested a subscription option like you described. After the season when I can come up for air a little bit I need to freshen up my online store and take advantage of some of the new features the hosting company offers. The online retail part of the business has grown over the past two years and it's time for me to look into a few different things on of which is subscription....avocado of the month club. 🤣

I remember back in the early 90's my family used to buy some huge avocados with green smooth skin. They had such complex flavor profiles, nutty, buttery, and even a bit grassy. They were such a delight. I wish I knew what they were. If I remember correctly, they were imported to the states from the Dominican Republic or Cuba.
@SleepyLizard2 жыл бұрын
Jolus, yes if imported they would have been from DR. Maybe their origin was Cuba but the fruit would not have come from there.

Aloha. We live in Maui and are about to plant a variety of Avo trees in our backyard... we have tons of weeds and are thinking of putting down weed cloth... how does this affect the young avo trees? Mahalo
@SleepyLizard2 жыл бұрын
Cornelia, Maui is a beautiful place. I rode my bike up Haleakalā what a day! 💪 You want to build up soil and have as much organic material below the trees as possible so for me it's preferable to mow about once per month and let the debris decompose. That will provide nutrients and heat for the trees and once their canopy grows you won't get as much growth underneath because of the shade. If you go with the weed cloth I don't think you'll get a negative effect per se but you'll miss out on the opportunity to start building up a good layer of fertile soil.

Yes, we are seeing flowers down here already also. This has been a strange year for flowering. I had one tree flower in August and start to produce fruit (which all fell off eventually). but to answer your question late June into July is prime mango season.

Nothing like Avo. I literally (when in season), have Avo Sandwiches almost every day. A little vinegar, salt and white pepper (yes yes I prefer white pepper on avo) and I am in heaven. Some people like a lot of Vinegar salt and pepper. For me though I find just a dash of each along with fresh hot bread and I am truly happy. @SleepyLizard okay so you walk around your orchard and can only choose a single Avo for your eating pleasure. Which Variety is it and how do you like it served?
@SleepyLizard2 жыл бұрын
My absolute favorite is Lula and I only had one tree in my yard not the grove but I lost the tree to an illness called Laurel Wilt so I have no more Lula. In the grove my favorite is probably Simmonds which we have in June/July. I like them plain cut in spears. The Lula is so soft I would cut them in half, remove the pit, sprinkle some salt and garlic powder and stir it right in the skin and eat with a spoon.
